Chelsea lost several key players to injury, if James & Chillwel where 100% available they would be much closer. Lukaku and Werner have also not performed. Liverpool had this two seasons ago it happens and they are not at full power.
Several??? Sounds like one. A lot of teams are missing a lot more

Chelsea fans and their silly excuses never end
‘My aunt could be my uncle’ that can definitely happen in this day and age!
before the season - chelsea needs to sign a striker. the missing link.
chelsea signed lukaku + saul.
talksport - chelsea definitely one of title contender.
now - chelsea is not underachiever
They’ve underachieved relative to what this season could have looked like. Although if they win the fa cup not a bad season either
Yes lukaku ends up scoring 5 goals, and we lose both Chilwell for the whole season, and James for half. That's literally our whole firepower
Chelsea were on top for the first 12 games. It all went downwards and spiral after the Ben Chillwell injury. We drew too many games and started losing. Individual mistakes from certain players also cost us games. Even yesterday, against Wolves Kovaicic mistake got them back in the game. Our aim was to be title challengers, we challenged it for only half way through the season. By January we were long behind Man City.
He said they were going to win the league, they're nearly 20 points behind Liverpool and City, they've under achieved by his own logic and he argues against it 🙈
he like chelsea soo much for idk what reason
i thought he like palace
And don’t forget. Only 3 points ahead of Arteta’s arsenal who he called “all theory” well I’ve got a theory for you Mr Jordan. Arsenal have won more games than Chelsea this season 😂 I like Simon btw I’m just pointing out not everything he says is gospel.
I don't think Simon or anyone else could have predicted Chelsea losing Chilwell and R James for extended periods of time. That alone has made it difficult for the team.
Simon Loves chelsea and Simon loves tuchel so this talk was never going to be about saying anything bad about chelsea.
@@terry3252 so fucking what injuries happen. Arsenal have been without tierney, partey and tomiyasu for a lot of this season and are still 3 points behind Chelsea…. All I ever hear from Chelsea fans is how strong their squad is and how they’ve got this player and that player. Stop making excuses. Your squad ain’t as good as you thought it was and tuchel ain’t as good as klopp or pep. It’s time for Chelsea fans to face the reality and stop kidding yourselves.
He was putting them to win the league this season. As far as this season go they underachieved hugely. Yes, they're are 3rd at the moment. But they're nowhere near Liverpool or City.
Liverpool and Man City have also not had the problems Chelsea have had this year.
@@travisbickle5829Liverpool missed several key players last season and couldn't even form a decent cb duo. You don't know what your talking about.
@@Zakaria0318 exactly and Liverpool couldn't win the league 🙄
Sure, Chelsea underperformed this season, but a lot of it has to do with injuries, especially the ones to Chilwell and James..... I mean, Chelsea was right there with City and Liverpool all the way up til they got hurt, then everything kinda fell apart and we started to struggle for results..... Chelsea should still finish 3rd, and hopefully they can find the form to go out and beat Liverpool in the FA cup final
Most times I am on Simon's side but this time I am with Jim. As a Chelsea fan, I can confidently say we have under achieved this season. We can do better.
No we can’t. Last season we were how many points behind city? Bottled an fa cup final to Leicester. Lost to villa on the final day and you expect to make up a 25+ point gap because of one signing? Impossible. We need an entire new attack and to not have players made of glass like Kante and Chilwell are before we can even dream of challenging.
We lost chilwell and James and that's when we dropped from 1st.
I blame the board for a poor window. Saul and lukaku have barely played! Don't fit into tuchel system
Tuchel 1st full year and needs time
@@DrBased123 Kante is the reason you bums compete. You can clearly see the difference when he's not fit or not starting.
You guys try to run a club that's sanctioned lol
As another Chelsea fan, I disagree that the team have underachieved. 2 trophies, 2 cup finals (FA cup still to play), Top 3 most of the season. All that with an injury and drama filled season. Currently Team not ready, to compete with City/ Liverpool. Liverpool took 4 years to win their first trophy under Klopp, all those seasons were necessary for Klopp to build what he has. I think despite the fallbacks, This was a step in the right decision, as TT can use this season to identify weaknesses and hopefully address them in the summer. Teams like Arsenal and United would much rather have Chelsea's season than their own.
Spending 100m on Lakaka would push Chelsea to challenge for the league title. And I thought Chelsea would challenge also. Chelsea squad was already stacked adding Lakaka was the missing piece to puzzle. But when Sky Italia interview came out, it all fell apart. Sanctions on the owner did also.
Man City and Liverpool miles ahead of everyone else. Chelsea finishing 3rd would be great for them
And lost two wing back with injury in Chiwell and James who’s out for most part of the season
@@matthancock260 yeah but it's how they are losing is the issue.
@@Grant-Official They were 3rd even before those injuries check that table.
His name is Lukaku
20 points off the top of the table , spent a 100 million on a ST , started the season on fire , of course they have underperformed
Always gonna be difficult after winning the UCL…Lots of players have been inconsistent this season and the loss of Ben chilwell was the start of the downfall. We were competing up until that point, Lukaku sabotaged his Chelsea career oh and our club was seized by the government… Lost a 50/50 final by the 22nd spot kick and VAR controversy, and are in another cup final. Never a dull moment being a Chelsea fan and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
@@dannysadler205 if they win the fa cup it’s not been a bad season. It’s just a disappointing season given what could’ve been. But yes they have missed chilwell. Their squad is clearly not as strong as I once thought
@@andypandy4607 Yeah if we do manage to win the fa cup it’s a good season all things considered. There are certainly a few positions we lack depth in that lwb is a major one because alonso can get up back not back in time. Oh well give tuchel the backing in the summer… if we have an owner by then😂 and we’ll see if we can bridge the gap between us and city/Liverpool
@@dannysadler205 I look at about 7 or 8 players who are not anything like premier league winning standard but have been playing frequently this season for them. Werner has been very underwhelming, havertz pretty inconsistent, ziyech doesn't play much, pulisic inconsistent too. And as you mention alonso, yes he is past it now. To an extent, I think 17 points is unreflective of the quality gap between chelsea and the top two because some of the games lately have been lost to poor individual errors like azpilicueta yesterday and a number during the arsenal game. But even so, the injuries especially around christmas time have really shown that the 'squad' players are not good enough.
Agree with you there. Be interesting to see how or if Tuchel solves these issues. He’s shown he’s up there with klopp and Guardiola but when he gets a few signings of his own choice we’ll see. Lukaku was a club signing and I could be wrong but I doubt Tuchel had much input in that transfer. Also we’re losing 2 of our best defenders on free transfers which stings a lot… But we have won club World Cup and Super cup and have an FA to try for so can’t really complain
Chelsea beat Madrid at the bernabeu, one of my favorite games
Jurgen Klopp in his first full season with Liverpool finished on 76 points.
Pep Guardiola in his first full season with Man City finished on 78 points.
If Thomas Tuchel wins his remaining 4 matches, he will finish his first full season with Chelsea on 78 points, which is an improvement on last season.
It's important not to get swept up in the mania of instantly comparing the top teams so quickly, and realising that they're at different stages of their own process.
It's evident that Lukaku and Werner were bought solely on their goal tallies rather than how they would fit into an overall playing style and system.
It's now a matter of whether they can adapt for next season, or if the manager and new owner decide on a different profile of striker.
It will probably be the latter.
Only an idiot does his calculation using IF.
Checkout Klopp’s first Liverpool team and where the amount of points compared to Tuchels Chelsea this season.
At the beginning of every season people say it's man UTD year, it's Chelsea's.... It's not. It's city or Liverpool.. that's it. The top 3 in the premiership can beat anyone in the world .. City and Liverpool are by far the best teams and to gain on them they need signings that do well..

Got to disagree with Simon. Underachieving is an understatement. In fact I'd say that if they don't win the fa cup. It would he an utter failure. Talking about all the should haves and what not is utterly dumb. "Destroyed real madrid in second leg" THEY GOT KNOCKED OUT.
They won the world club cup.
@@Dead-Ball-Situation winning the world cup against Brazilian and Arab teams is hardly an achievement is it mate. I'm a Liverpool fan, I should know. A trophy yes but even the fa cup means more
@@FurioussBear They were a decent Brazilian side but the point being is that (like the League cup) it's still silverware and if they win the FA Cup and finish 3rd, I wouldn't call that an under achievement, personally. They can't expect to win the league at the moment with City & Liverpool. You're unlikely to win b2b Champions leagues, albeit they were unlucky against Real Madrid. Did they expect to win the league and/or the CL(again) this year? All in all, an OK season for them, they have to be realistic.
@@Dead-Ball-Situation let me put it in fifa terms for you. European champions Chelsea were given objectives at the start of the season.
1. Win the prem (especially with the signing of lukaku).
2. Win 1 or both cups
3. To go as far as they could in the champs, most likely semis or beyond.
You telling me that winning none out of those or maybe even 1 fa cup isn't underachieving? Fair enough. I'm out of this debate
@@FurioussBear Objectives and expectations are not the same thing. I expected Chelsea to win a few more games this season and be a bit closer to 2nd but win it, with Liverpool & City? No. They could still with the FA Cup. They have already won silverware this season. So they didn't get to the semis of the CL, but even then semis still isn't winning the actual CL itself. It's not been a great season but I wouldn't call it an under achievement at the moment. If they fall out of Top 4 and maybe lose the FA Cup, perhaps.
No one talks about Reece James and Chillwell being injured... In a wingback system
Reece james and chilwell 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I appreciate Jordan's quite rare positivity but as a Chelsea Fan, I have to agree with Murphy : Chelsea have underachieved this season. There are reasons to that but we'll finish this season nowhere near what we aimed for at the beginning of the campaign, which is a PL title and a real battle to retain the CL.
Aside the first eleven, Liverpool and City have Ferraris in the garage. Chelsea's got ziyech, loftus cheek, saul, kepa etc. On top of that they lost some very decent players to injury. Players like chilwell, Hudson Odoi, Reece James (only just returned). Lukaku didn't do the job he was bought for (i.e score 20 plus goals) and then the matter with Abramovich sanctions and all. Yet the team won the UEFA super cup and Club world cup. Not what the fans wanted but certainly not disappointing given the circumstances...

Tuchel has gained a 100m ST who hasn’t performed and has suffered major injuries with the likes of James, Chillwell, NG, Kovacic. 3rd place and 2 cup finals with all that’s going on in the background. I think it’s been a very good season for Chelsea

The gap btn Chelsea and 1st place is way worse than Liverpool's gap to City last season
Give Tuchel a break, he's only been in the job a short time - Klopp or Guardiola have been in place building up their teams gradually over years.

The shear fact is that Tuchel covered up the backsides of the players that he made overachieve last year.
let me put things into perspective... Chelsea currently stands at 70 points , considering they win their final 2 games that take them to 76 points. Spurs are currently with 68 points , their last game is against Norwich and its safe to say they will be able to wrap up the 3 points out of it or in worst case 1 point. This takes spurs to 71 or 69 depending on the outcome. So Chelsea will just be 5 - 7 points apart with such a highly valued team . Chelsea should have gained 80-85 points by now with this team
This was supposed to be the first season without any "drama"(meaning a full talented squad with a legit striker, and a manager that has shown to be a winner), and it turned out to be one of the most drama filled one. Major injuries, sale of the club, key players leaving, legit striker turning out to be a flop. It feels like Chelsea season haha.

Chelsea got to 3 finals this season league cup , FA cup , world club cup ,
They were garbage yesterday.
We’ve had too many injuries this season.
Just look at Liverpool's performance last season with injuries.. but no one's talking about it. Tuchel's tactics is mainly based on his wingbacks ..and it was unfortunate he lost both quality wings in the business part of the season
The issue is most football fans are reactionary idiots. Let’s look at the facts about this Chelsea team well before this season even started because I thought scraping top 4 was quite predictable this season. Last season they won the champions league with a solid defence which can be enough in cup competitions. They proved that on their day they can beat anyone. However, this is the same team that bottled an fa cup final to Leicester. Lost to villa on the final day despite desperately needing a win at the time. Had an attack that looks blunt and needs 5 clear cut chances to score 1. As well as an entire squad that seems to be made of glass and can’t keep the same 11 fit for more than a couple straight games. Ever since they last won the league in 2017 they have consistently been 20-30 points off winning the league and that’s no exaggeration. In all these seasons they’ve always started strong but fell off very hard from December onwards. Then they go and buy one player and people magically believe that makes them contenders this year. Shows how clueless most so called fans are. They’ve not underachieved at all, this is there level and they’ve shown that the past 4 seasons before this one.
Simon is bang on again
Chelsea had a perfectly good goal disallowed in the LC
Injuries and tiredness are definitely playing their part this season. Over the last 2 years this squad has played a huge amount more games than some rivals, no longer have a massive squad and have all the current mess going on. I don't think this season can seriously be looked at in the same way as the teams around us.
Need to be better next season but not the drama some are calling it.
Played no more than Liverpool and Man City?
@@peopletalkuttergarbage we have, not loads but there are a lot of young players there. Last season fa cup final, cl final, league cup semi. This season world club, cup winners, league final, fa cup final it's been pretty relentless and when you compare with the 17 clubs below we've played almost half an extra season in that period. Not saying that is the defining reason for our current slump but it's a fair guess that it's playing a part.
I'm seeing people say if lfc only win the fa cup an cap one it's a failure so explain how Chelsea haven't underachieved there potentially gonna finish 3rd or 4th with no trophy
Agree with Simon completely. They have good cup runs and have done so this season✅ They get this point total in the league, with normal injuries or a full squad and have done so for years✅ That's not under-achieving, its called not improving✅ Like everyone, pundits and fans, SAID they would just because they chose to SAY they would. Respect point totals✅
Miles ahead of arsenal? The league table would suggest otherwise Mr Murphy which is the best measuring stick there is for where a club is at. Another poor piece of analysis.
Warra trophy for Arsenal
Miles ahead of Arsenal is poor analysis???
@@Just2GdTobiTrue yes because the league table says otherwise.
@@bdshock9993 what about every other cup competition 🧐
“Yeah but my aunt could be my uncle”
just 3 points ahead of Arsenal. So its either Arsenal over achieving or Chelsea under....
Going by Chelsea fans comments here...it looks like when chilwell is back Chelsea will be doing the quad next season 😂
Injuries to our full backs and bad finishing have done us in this season.
We will be better next season.
😂😂dumbass
whose fault is that??
You chelsea fans are so silly.
They have spent 150million on strikers that cannot score
Finally someone said it
Let’s not forget all the off field crap chelsea has and is still having to deal with the lukaku situation multiple injuries and of course the Roman abramovic saga
Haven't Chelsea won the World Club cup? They are in with a chance to win the FA Cup too and will probably finish 3rd. I wouldn't say they have under achieved, although what I will say is that Man City & Liverpool look set to dominate the league for years. The last time Chelsea won the league was 2017 and it could be a while before that happens again, so they may have to accept that top 4 is their ambition for the medium term and so for now, another Champions League may be their best way of winning a big trophy.
In my own opinion, it’s been a disappointing season relative to what I thought they could’ve done. Their squad isn’t as strong as I thought it was and lukaku clearly hasn’t delivered. But they have also had a fair few injuries this season and that’s meant they’ve been dependent on players who aren’t chelsea standard. With all that said, if they win the fa cup that can’t really mean it’s been a bad season.
@@andypandy4607 Yes, I guess it depends on what standards one measures their success by this season. IMO, If they win the FA cup and get top 4, with also a World CLub cup then it will have been not too bad a season at all. They could have been more competitive in the PL but they were never really going to win it IMO with Liverpool and Man City. As for The Champs League, well did they expect to retain it? It's very hard to do that, despite being unlucky to lose to RM in the QF.
@@Dead-Ball-Situation they did well against Real Madrid in the second game but their first game was so poor with individual mistakes and those mistakes have been so costly lately including against arsenal and yesterday against everton. I think an fa cup win with qualification to the CL is fine. But for sure that squad needs work because some of those players would never get into the top two sides. That makes it slightly more remarkable that even though they have spent a lot in the last few seasons, they still look a way off.
But who knows. Maybe the new owners will back tuchel and they'll recruit better. They definitely need to.
As an American I find it interesting how Americans are buying all the big English teams
What a silly perspective. After the signings they made the last two years, CL was minimum.
That may not happen. Under performing.
They have absolutely
They overachieved last season which had everyone thinking they were on City and Liverpool's level. They're not even on Bayern or Real Madrid's level.
Rubbish
Common sense should tell anyone that player contracts alone is enough to disrupt any team. This season’s failure is down to the Chelsea board who waited until the last year to negotiate Key players contracts. That’s criminal! Add sanctions to that and we’re even lucky to be where we are and Tuchel has dealt with the situation the best way he could in this uncertain period.
I don’t know how anyone thought Lukaku would be the missing piece. There’s level between the serie A and Prem. He was trash at utd too.
If they are only 3 points ahead of a team they are much better than then sure they are underachieving????
Don't confuse form with achievement.
Chelsea will never compete in the league until we can find someone to score more than 15 goals in the league. Prior to this year, I think Jorghino has been our top goal scorer for the past 2 seasons
“That’s for the birds”
Simon looks like postman Pat.
Club has been in turmoil since late January. Supercup Club World Cup and a top 4 finish. Most clubs would crumble and capitulate. Proud of this club
What happened to winning the league?
@@romariomcleod9904 simply not as good as City and Liverpool🤣 really not hard to grasp
@@JC_1997 it's how the team are playing and losing that is the issue.
@@JC_1997 Certainly spend way more than Liverpool. No excuse not to be challenging
TT is new coach give him time he is the best.remember that klopp and guardiola have been ther for 6.7 years.
What has he ever done to prove he is elite. Please tell me. He only once stayed at a club for longer than two seasons. So again how is he elite. He might be a good coach but it's not anywhere near elite as he hasn't done anything elite.
@@MarkWalmsley dont be deluded. He won the champions league, super cup, club world cup. Took the best Liverpool side all the way to the end of the carabao cup final (and technically should have won if the team finished their chances), currently in the FA cup final. He is one of the elite managers, but not at the top of the elite. Klopp and guardiola are better than him for sure.
@@intermediate212 He hasnt won anything of note this season and this is his first season. In his past he has never done anything elite, its a fact. We have seen him when needing to be consistent and he hasnt achieved it. His team looks tired and they dont enjoy playing the way he likes to play. I dont think he is anything special and so far I am being proved right.
@@MarkWalmsley he won the supercup and club world cup. Those are noteworthy. I honestly feel you're just being pessimistic and want to use milk toast arguments to support your claims. Tuchel is definitely elite. There's no denying it as much as you try 🤷🏾♂️
@@MarkWalmsley Tuchel has won the champions league within months of joining Chelsea, klopp took many years to achieve that at liverpool, and pep still hasn’t in all his years at city. These two also haven’t won anything significant in their first seasons at their respective clubs, hope I cleared it up for you
We’ve played the most games this season
Theyve underachieved because everyone thought they were a lot better than they actually are. People had lost their minds before this season, Chelsea's squad went from being solid outsiders in the CL final to being 'the best squad in the league'. 'Wowww they have Ziyech AND Lukaku AND Mount ANDDD Havertz' - jesus that's all I heard yet aside from Lukaku, they must have had less than 30 or even 20 goals between them last season?
Just shows how desperate people were for Chelsea to disturb the City Liverpool status quo
YES
Honestly I say that Chelsea have not exceeded their expectations.we are miles behind Liverpool and city
Bad luck with injuries and not once have they mentioned Chelsea have played the most games of any club in Europe
But city have been playing more games for the past 4 years and still compete an all front and still compete for the league, All this while. managing to cope without their best players.
Yhh we have been out of form but let’s not be to critical. Both Pep and Klopp didn’t win in their first season. It’s literally just his first season. Plus these players arent Tuchel, hopefully Chelsea backs him and get his players
Chelsea are relying too much on defenders to score
They're much better than 3 points than spurs and arsenal but they haven't under achieved, and you can't say they under achieved because its not their fault Lukaku failed
