    Higuain, Falcao and Pato were all loans that cost the club very little (furthermore, 2 of them were only for 6 months). He threw the manager under the bus in that interview, telling the reporters that Tuchel basically lied to him about the system he'll play and that the system isn't suited to him. Because of that interview, Tuchel had the unnecessary task of defending his system the entire duration of the league.
    This was after Lukaku had told the world that he can play any style the coach wants. He quickly realized he can't play that hold up style Tuchel wanted and then proceeded to throw the coach under the bus.
    In addition to his lack of hold up play and technical limitations with his back to goal, he wasn't fit all season. He was at least 20 pounds overweight. Tuchel said multiple interviews that Lukaku's issue was fitness and that he can't really give him more than 60 minutes which caused problems due to the limit on 3 substitutions.
    Tuchel did everything to accommodate that guy and even abandoned high ball recovery press because Lukaku can't press and doesn't run off the ball. Lukaku was averaging about 20 touches a game, including setting record low touches with 7 (1 being the kick off) vs Palace.
    Truth is Tuchel did not want Lukaku which is clear. If Tuchel had wanted this guy he would not be benching him or pushing him out the door. Roman pushed this move on Tuchel because Roman was the boss. It was reported by Dean Jones June 16th on GiveMeSport that people at Chelsea did not think bringing Lukaku back to Chelsea was a good idea but Roman wanted it. The buck stops at Roman, as everyone knows.
    Lukaku wanted more money from Inter to which they couldn't afford, agreed to transfer to Chelsea for huge wages and then proceeded to belly ache about the manager.
    This guy would take his own rides to games instead of with his teammates. And that interviewed apology they played here in January, was just insincere. Lukaku was calling up Inter director's, presidents, coaches and former teammates trying to get back to Inter. He called up Inzaghi the night of the Chelsea/Madrid quarter final begging to get back to Inter.
    The guy was a disaster on the pitch and off it.

      Yes if a coach is not a man of his words he has to be call out.

      @TrevHassy 2 роки тому

      @@reduneyconceicao3420 Lmao get a grip. It's been made abundantly clear that Lakaka went above and beyond to be a distraction for self preservation. With Tammy it was a matter of it not being a fit for the system, lack of laying time, and a generous transfer from Roma. And who said Timo is being pushed out the door? He had one meeting with the club (which is normal during transition) and people have a field day with it. Tuchel is a world class manager who won the champions league with a half built squad while Lakaka is a bum who has only found success in lesser squads that accommodate him. Thank god we have the chance to bring in a real striker now.

    Lukaku failed because he thought the team was going to be build around him. At Inter it was him and Lautaro upfront. This gave him the freedom to go at defenders as he liked. At Chelsea his playing against a more physical defenders and up front alone. He couldn't hack it and quit. Honestly I thought he was going to be a success but turns out his got no fight in him. Gotta respect guys like Werner who might not have and it easy but never gives up.

    Pato, Falcao, Higuain were short term loan deals. I believe Pato and Higuain were just 6 months loans. No reason to lump them in with big money signings like Morata and Lukaku just to make a point. Costa was an unbelievable success. He scored 20 league goals in 2 of the 3 seasons he was here. Remy was never meant to be anymore than more than backup and he was horribly injury prone. So really what you're left with is Morata and Lukaku (and perhaps Werner). Still not great, but hardly 'let's run a line through 9 of the last 10 strikers' territory either. Simon is right. The context and nuance was completely thrown out of the window.

    Lukaku was never the Striker signing Chelsea needed to make. However, losing Chilwell so early in the season and then James made a major difference in the style of play that was played at the club. That said, Lukaku's attitude and desire to play in the side was never the same after he was out for a spell injured (and that interview).
    Even when the team began playing the ball more to his feet and tried including him, he always seemed off the pace.
    Werner gets himself into some great positions but simply cannot find the net often enough; and while Havertz is great in that false nine role, he needs the wide players or players in behind him to run past and be the ones to score (when he runs deep). The team should be built around Mason Mount and played to his strengths more than anyone else's.

      Remy in the 2014/15 for us backup to Costa was exceptional and the 2015/16 season he was still decent alongside Bertrand Traore. You can’t ask a non-chelsea fan if they were successful or not if they don’t know the ins and out. Pato was only signed for six months, higuain loan, Costa was successful idk what Trevor is on about, Werner is success and failure in one, Falcao was a loan so isn’t qualifiable for success and failure, Batshuayi was decent in his first and second season. And Giroud was undoubtedly a success. Notice Jim didn’t mention Tammy. All to ramp up the narrative. The only one that’s been an out and out failure was Lukaku.
