I'm a United fan. I remember when United backed Pogba over Mourinho. A massive mistake. Jose played Pogba in a midfield 2. Then as a number 10. Then on the left of a midfield 3 (Played same position at Juve). He made Pogba captain and Pogba still didn't play consistently well at United. Then Ole took over (complete opposite of Jose + a loser) and Pogba didn't play well with him as manager either. I personally think he is one of the most over rated players in world football.

As a Spurs fan, one thing I admire about Jose was he always painted himself as the bad guy instead of the players when it came to arguments. Still rate him as one of the top ten coaches in the world easily. Reputation was tarnished at United because he couldn't control one player, and at Spurs because, well, we decided to do what we do best and start stumbling when we were at the top. As much as Pep changed how we view football, ppl often forget how much of an impact Jose has made as well.

I've been saying this before United even bought him. He is highly over rated. He shines when world class talent is around him, he is not world class. At Juventus, there was Pirlo, Marchisio, Vidal, Isla and Padoin. In the French team he has Kante and Matuidi who ran around like headless chickens winning the ball and cutting passing lanes. He shines at the outpouring of others talent, and that my friend doesn't make you world class, being in world class teams doesn't make you world class. It simply adds a level of expectations for a player that is at best average. I've watched him at his best and at his worst; no doubt talented, but so is 95 percent of players who were ever given contracts over 100k a week. United sacked Mourinho who gave them second, a European trophy, league cup and a community shield for this over rated player that couldn't even get them into Europe. He is simply overrated.

At Juve he had the best back three in club football behind him. With France he has Kante behind him. Both times it means he doesn't have to defend, track back or put a shift in. No one denies he isn't talented, he just doesn't/hasn't appeared to put the effort in. The game in the PL is a lot faster too, just never seemed to be at the pace each week. Saw flashes of but Utd shouldn't have backed him over Jose.

Just on Lukaku at United, he got 36 G/A without penalties in his first season. And his support basically dried up after January. He carried that team for a large part of that season more than he’ll ever get credit for.

Pogba is only good with the ball at his feet. He does VERY LITTLE to win the ball back whenever he loses it. And whenever he did try, he either gets a foul or fail to regain possession.

1- Not bench him completely

I've wanted him gone for seasons. He plays a handful of good games but is mostly disappointing, gets caught on the ball and doesn't care, and is injured a lot.

Pogba, when he was 19, wanted his game at United. At the same time though, Fergie had a strong midfield at the time, so who was he gonna displace? Fergie wanted him to be patient and Raiola smelled blood in the water and did what he does best and acted as a divider between Fergie and Pogba. But the player chooses the agent as much as the agent chooses the player and ultimately, Raiola was a good match for Pogba. No loyalty except to himself.

The biggest myth is that he plays better for France and Juve. He doesn’t. Its just a very average player, bolstered by his Instagram presence and highlights packages. Those singing his praises barely watched him for France and Juve, they see him every week for United, warts and all. He’s just not that good.

Carlton is trying to defend players that big money was paid for and paid to but he’s defending players that need other players to do the work so as they can look good, instead of them being able to adapt to the team becoming better players and justifying the money invested in them. So they were never ever worth the money in the first place

Failure or over rated. Were the expectations just too high. I think he's a victim of himself, and one of those people who doesn't have an high work ethic, but as mentioned. When it's all working around him he's the icing on the cake. So it all depends on what sort of cake you have and if he's the topping you need. I suspect though if he played under Pep, it wouldn't have ended any other way. All the top managers need you to work your socks off, and Pogba won't do that for you!

The problem with Pogba, was that Woodward wanted a marquee signing. And the scouting team at the club were lazy, did they do their due diligence on whether he'd matured since he'd left the club? After all, a top scout should focus on the complete picture and not just on goals and assists. Is his work ethic strong, does he work as part of a team, does he track back, does he lead when the chips are down, can he function in other roles, in other formations etc? And the answer to all those questions concerning Pogba, would have been a resounding "No!"
Serie A and international football are played at a lower intensity than the Premier League. Pogba could be great when playing instinctively, with first time passes, shots, going past a player based purely on reflex but whenever he dwelled on the ball, whenever he thought about what he was going to do next he'd invariably get caught out. We even saw this in international football at the last Euros when he got caught with the ball and cost France.
People say "oh but he had Pirlo at Juve, he has Kante for France" and yeah that's true and they basically had to clean up his messes. A world class player shouldn't need another player to constantly get them out of trouble. World class players aren't elevated by those around them, world class players are the ones doing the elevating.
To say that 300K a week is "nothing" especially given his record of playing, not to mention his injury record (don't forget, he spent half of each of the past two seasons injured) is ridiculous. He's not a world class player, never has been. United never should have brought him back and when they did they should have sold him while they had the chance to make some money from him.
Pogba will go back to Juve and probably do well and people will say "oh look, see how good Pogba is and how much United fucked up" but the reality is, Serie A is a league where Ashley Young and Chris Smalling have looked decent. Average PL players tend to do well in Italy which says a lot about the current quality of the league.
The competition in Serie A isn't that bad tbh now Juve have declined
Character over talent any day. I would take John Mcginn or James Milner over Pogba any day, I like to see a player work for the badge regardless of how gifted they are. This is why Wayne Rooney will always be my favourite player, bags of talent but he would've died for that United badge.
