I just finished a 5 day course at 40mg/day and currently on day 7 without and had very bad withdrawal symptoms (no taper). All that lingers now is some brain fog and light headedness, but the anxiety and other symptoms were enough for me to never want to take it again. Hopefully back to normal in a couple more days!

Our dad developed prednisone induced psychosis and we've been living a nightmare ever since. He was in a psychiatric facility for 2022 Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was having hallucinations and was extremely paranoid and suicidal. The doctor tried different medications and lithium left him unresponsive....which led to ICU and hospital visits for over a year. He's stabilized now, but is a different man. He's now in long term care. He was active and fully independent before taking this drug. I would not EVER take this drug. Families should be warned of the potential complications. This drug ruined life as he knew it.

I can sympathize. I developed prednisone psychosis after a round of the stuff. It’s been 20 months and I’m still not over all of the symptoms. For months on end, day after day I was afraid to get out of my bed and lay there crying all day. It has been torture for my family and me. I wanted to end my life many times but didn’t want to put my family through that. I’m somewhat better but not quite the same.

Went to the ER and the nurse told me her neighbor had a psychotic breakdown on prednisone. She dug a hole in her yard and tried to bury herself alive!

I've had life changing complications from being on Budesonide for 10 yrs! I've just been weaned off a wk ago.. I'm THANKFUL to still be alive. I believe my Ortho surgeon may have saved my life. I'm scheduled to have second hip replacement so he saud i had to come off. Each yr on corticosteroids my mental health was getting worse. I feel like I'm losing my mind. If it was not for me getting a new GI Dr.yo get me off don't know what would happened. Prayerfully i will recover eventually. TY for this video although I'm on different med. results still the same AWFUL

Oh man. I’ve been on 60mg of prednisone a day for 2 months. I just barely got to start tapering off this last week so I’m down to 50mg for 2 weeks then I’ll drop to 40mg and so on…

I was just diagnosed with this recently and I'm now on zyprexa and ativan to regualte my sleep and the other mania symptoms. It's working well so far and I appreciate this video. I went to work for two whole weeks before getting help. I'm lucky I was able to keep it together until finally going to the ER cause my heart rate was super high.

I have only been in it for 5 days at 4 mg. I feel absolutely nutty right now. I am freaking out a bit. Do these side effects usually go away after discontinuing?
And by nutty I mean jittery, depressed, anxious, aggressive, and scary thoughts.

Can the symptoms come and go? Like weeks in between episodes? Some lasting only a day or so and one lasting several days in row?
So my cat has been on long term steroids and vet recently upped dose and approx after a week or two after top up injection she would pace and cry, not eat and want to drink but seem to struggle. Struggling with sleep also.
She also has nasal tumour which treatment is for. Tumour went behind eye and caused it to tilt. I was thinking she was in extreme pain from symptoms but could all these symptoms cause these same symptoms mentioned. She tried sleeping but would cry and look like she couldnt get comfy. She was fed up after several days of pacing and crying.
Both tumour entering eye muscle and upper dose of steroids seem to coincide. So not sure if she was in severe pain or its steroid dementia.
Would love to know answers to my questions about if its comes and goes in waves and if symptoms could fit based on a humans experience.

Thank you for this Megan. Do you have any experience with Prednisone causing hallucinations or delusions of a sexual nature? I'm aware of a case where a 40 kg, 13 year old girl on long-term 65 mg/day for nephrotic syndrome, went cold turkey without consulting with her doctor. One evening soon after she stopped her dose, she drank alcohol (given to her by her mother, can you believe?) and woke the following morning to accuse her step-father of molesting her. There were witnesses to the absence of any possible offending and he had no opportunity to do anything of the sort, but finished up being convicted of an assault that he clearly did not commit on the basis of the girl's testimony alone. It basically ruined his life for over a decade. Are you able to point me in the direction of any academic research or practising doctor with expertise in the area of adrenal suppression and side-effect of psychotic (specifically sexual) fantasy? Many thanks.

Took my last half pill today and for the rest of my life.

@@PrednisonePharmacist I started having a high fever 2 days ago. I don't know if it is from the prednisone? I know my immune system is really bad. I have COPD. I also use inhalers and and a nebulizer. I am miserable. Guess I have to go too ER today? I will be skipping the steroids.
      Thank you for replying back.
We moved to another state 16 year's ago. They said it was allergies that caused all my breathing problems. They started giving steroids to me. It is their go to drug in this state.
I hope people will try something else before going through what I have went through.
It changes your body and mind. I can't count how many times my husband and my family have called me crazy. My husband's favorite saying is, if you were that sick. You wouldn't act like you do. Prednisone gives you super energy. It isn't like you can stay in bed.

Hi are you there. So I'm just now realizing I was diagnosed with schizophrenia right after I had some steroids/ prednisone. Obviously this is a misdiagnosis. Well they prescribed me resperidone injection. Am I able to get off the resperidone or will I have psychosis episodes. The worse part is trying to tell my sig other that the steroid was what was making me think those ways...I was taking the steroid due to a mold outbreak I tried cleaning mold and again other times due to eczema....help...please comment
