Hey ya'll. This is Brian, "the local area expert". I had so much fun with Matt and the team. The one on one time was a dream come true for a long-time viewer like me. I almost jumped out of my seat when I first saw the Morvair and Wrecker driving right next to me on the slabs. Thanks for letting me tag along. I hope to make it out to your shop and say hello again, sometime.
This has to be in the top 5 videos ever. Beautiful scenery. Teamwork that rivals the gold nugget recovery. A few observations; 1. Caitlin and Collin are smart, attentive and focused. They take direction well. 2. The wrecker is a formidable machine. I can't think of a tougher or more nimble civilian vehicle. 3. Matt is a natural leader. I loved how he left it to the youngins and guided them through the obstacles as a great leader does. Patiently giving clear instructions. Never losing his attention to how he approaches them in his requests. Just fantastic teamwork in a situation that was rife with opportunities for it all to go south. Lastly, the wrecker eating up the soup bowl was epic. Made it look easy. What a machine. A great way to spend an hour. Thanks again for top notch content.
How many people would let a 17 year old-even though an expert rock crawler-drive the wrecker on that job? That’s great leadership right there. Truly. I should send this video to the coach of the Seattle Storm who never plays rookies.
I love the Wrecker. He started with a tape measure and some steel stock. Welded on a lot of found objects, and stuff made from more steel stock. And here we are. Not bad for a man with no idea what he was doing.
Honestly 90% of these projects end up as piles of parts and never get done. The fact it's finished, wired, painted, that's impressive... the fact it works the way it does is mind boggling!!
Watching Kaitlyn begin on the channel as a somewhat shy and quiet participant to today where she has become a great host on the channel is awesome. These skills will serve her well as she moves further thru her education and then ultimately on to her fulltime "life" gig! Well done young lady great addition to the MORR Team .... 😊
One of the best episodes I've watched in a long time. Kaitlyn, you are such a great human being, love seeing your confidence grow in such a challenging environment. Thanks to the entire team at MORR for all being so inclusive of each other. You guys rock truly, thank you front New Zealand
I love seeing Katelynn use her skill from competitive rock crawling and apply it to the work she is doing with MORR. What she did here on the Rubicon, in a complicated beast of a machine, doing a very difficult task, for several hours, shows that she is a huge asset for the team. Plus...this young woman just SPARKLES!! Her cheerful presence and clever retorts (about using the rear-steer for example) is great fun for us watching the videos. I'm always glad when she's on the next video.
Facts! Katelynn is an amazing addition to the team and videos. I never thought anyone could even approach Lizzy as a team member but Katelynn is every bit as great as Lizzy.
Picture her away at college, having to listen to some blowhard at a party boast about breaking an axle on the rubicon. "Oh, I drove the rubicon...in a wrecker...rescuing morons like you!"
Imagine being stuck on the Rubicon, and none other than Matt's Off-road Recovery rounds the corner. That would be both awesome, and convenient. Also, watching the wrecker work, and flex out doesn't ever get old. Such a killer rig!
Imagine being out on the trail thinking "Man I just need an arc welder and this repair job would be easy!" and lo and behold an arc welder comes round the bend.
I live just down the mountain from Ice House and the Rubicon, but I've never done a real 4x adventure. I am so curious the CO$T of a recovery job like this?
As a former Tahoe resident and one who has attempted just a part of the Rubicon Trail and also a big fan of Matt’s Off Road Recovery UA-cam channel, this was the best episode ever! Congratulations on the recovery and thank you for the awesome drone footage! That was really fun to watch.
The wrecker is just a machine. But you can also see why Kaitlyn is a champion driver and Kaulin is going to be the next gen fabricator and driver. You’re a great teacher Matt.
It’s easy to forget sometimes just how good everyone on this crew is at their respective jobs. I can’t think of but like 1-2 people their ages I know who I wouldn’t even trust to attempt this stuff.
Kaulin's the only one who got a real workout out of the recovery. The wrecker didn't care, so the wrecker driver was just cruising. The Morrvair has a style all its own, so that driver was in it for the fun; and poor Kaulin had to arm-pump it the whole way out Doing that, backwards, with no PS?
Back in 06, I rolled my XJ 2-1/4 times on the Rubicon Trail. I remember thinking "How the hell am I gonna get this out of here? There are no tow trucks". Luckily we got it running and I finished the trail and drove it home 500 miles with no hood and no glass. I only had a plexiglass windshield that we rigged up. Greatest trip ever.
It's funny you say you rolled it 2 and a half times...but for those 2 and a half times... I bet you weren't really counting how many times you rolled....but when you were gonna stop.
It was great meeting Matt and crew on trail. Jennifer really got a kick out of getting a tug from the wrecker. The wrecker is truly something to behold on trail, very impressive! But what truly impressed me was how quickly you got this edited and uploaded! By the time we were off trail we were being sent screenshots of our cameo appearance! woohoo UA-cam almost famous! Matt and team are just as personable and friendly as they appear on these vids, awesome family and team! We thank you.
As many videos as they made, if they weren't quick, by now, there'd be something wrong. Clearly, there's nothing wrong. You can bet that Matt's the same, calm, alpha dog off-camera as he is on-camera, and everybody around him is pretty content.

Went to your channel, thank you for creating such a good thing to help preserve a 4 x 4 trail. I didn't see one piece of trash in this video. I wanted to know what this trail looks like in a video if available when the spring runoff is flowing down it? Maybe you can plan a mini vacation now to attend the 2025 Off Road Games, maybe you'll get invited by Matt. If you go, I'm sure you will have a lot of fun. Thanks for the time stamps and the names of those areas for those of us who can't go wheeling.
Watching the joy on Kaitlynn's face while driving the wrecker warms my teacher's heart. For her the test isn't an obstacle, it's an opportunity. I don't know much about offroading, but I'm guessing the technical challenge of this recovery is off the charts, and your team just knocked it off of the park.
Kaitlin's "bestest" team contribution to date; she really enjoyed herself and went out of her way to share the excitement with viewers! Shoutout to Kaulin for "bassackward" skills in the recovered vehicle, and to Kolby for getting to have some seat time on his bucket-list Rubicon trail (all fun and games until the bucket kicks you; sorry about your rolled ankle ... ouch!). The leap into Loon Lake at the end was Peanut-worthy. Victory pies, all around, Team Morr!!
This is probably your second best recovery. For the record, the Golden Nugget is your #1 recovery video. Katelynn did an incredible job wheelin" the World's Largest Off Road Wrecker through the Rubicon trail. She should get a pay raise for that...I think an 11% increase would be good. Kauliln's arms are 11% bigger now. I hope Kolby's ankle is okay...great camera work as usual. Keep up the good work Matt. Love your videos!
Caitlin, this is for you, I’m an old Grandpa, I watch you work with this group. Oh lord to have had a daughter or granddaughter like you!!!!!!! I’d be so darn proud. I was in the military with ladies like you. Shy, tough, smart and not afraid of anything. Won’t be long some of those young fellas are thinking “man this gal is great”! When I was very young your type (what I just mentioned) was who I married as my wife! 54 years this year! Yeah, she was shy, tough, smart, articulate, and not afraid. But she was not a rock climber. All the best Caitlin (hope I spelled your name correctly) Yeah you are the tops you beautiful lady you! Best wishes and you will be a mighty fine pilot! I’m Air Force! You need to be a super pilot!!!! 🙏👍👍👍👍👍
Think the customer should be the new local area expert now.. He knows the trail, flies drones, and is a damn fine stand in camera guy.. I'd say he's earned his stripes..
Across the board, thats the best MORR video in a very long time. Vehicles performed flawlessly. The young crew all brought their A game. Photography and Drone work were brilliant and i saw lots contributing to this. Matt you must be so proud of your team, it just shows what can be achieved when your leader has the confidence to stand back and watch what he has nurtured and they certainly delivered. Awesome job guys and guests.
Coming from a close-knit family it is great watching your family work together on your videos. As a 4-wheeler it provides both training in driving and getting out and around tough spots. Awesome channel, much appreciated! God bless.
Best rescue video ever made! I didn't realize how rugged the Rubicon is. The whole crew is just superb. They all love their jobs and have deep respect for Matt. Long day and a swim in the lake to take off the dust. Good thinking Kaitlyn!
Colby had his dreams come true, driving the Morrvair, on the Rubicon Trail which was another dream come true. He's so happy his ankle only hurts when he breaths. Matt the master of ppl off road recovery did it again on the most visible Trail in the western U.S. The wrecker he designed and built was on the Rubicon Trail doing a job no one else wanted. The total visibility of this recovery is probably get more views than any other recovery. The whole video shows the greatness of him and the wrecker. Colin's role in this recovery was beyond belief, he kept the truck right side up and saved the sides of the truck with his driving and braking. Katlin learned how to drive the wrecker on the job. With Matt's guidance she was able to put the wrecker in the safest spots giving Colin a better chance of backing that truck off the trail . All of the three California jobs I am aware of have shown Matt, the wrecker, and his team successfully recover each vehicle. That's 100% / perfect for out of state recoveries. And don't forget New Mexico...
Matt has a great "K" team (Kaulin, Kolby and Kaitlyn). I think that Matt is up to 5 Ca. recoveries - Golden Nugget, Land Rover, Huge Behemoth Motorhome, easy recovery Jeep and now the Nissan.
This is seriously some of the best content on UA-cam ever. It shows how a family should be. The way y'all interact with each is so genuine and the effortless teamwork is really amazing and hard to find nowadays especially in a family unit. I know my family would have been cussing, screaming, and fighting.
I send people away when they do that yelling thing. I would rather work alone no matter how hard the job than to have someone with a bad temper and zero patience. Its just not worth it at any level. I love watching these people work.
Matt - The way you teach and guide the kids is something to behold. Never harsh, never panicked, just calm smooth directions. You are building their confidence with your belief in their skills. I really love to watch your team work. Thanks for vids.
@@mediocreman2 lol, you figure he's calling cut and screaming obscenities at them every 20 mins? None of this was life threatening, so there was no reason for Matt to get panicked. If any big mistakes were made you would see more damage on the vehicles.
It’s a masterclass in parenting, teaching, and leadership. My dad wouldn’t let me run his model train set as a kid. And Matt has his son and a 17 year-old handling rigs on the Rubicon. Major props.
This recovery was a joy to watch. The MORR team showed up and showed out. Only second to the Golden Nugget recovery due to the connection to Ed and the family. If that tailgate still opens/closes. I'd leave it and have a story to tell when anyone asks about it. Hats off to Matt, Katelynn, Koulin, Kolby, and the local veteran who grabbed some stunning aerial footage of that beautiful scenery. "If you love what you do. You won't work a day in your life."
John and I finally got off the trail today and I was getting all sorts of messages that they saw me on your video. I still need to watch the entire thing but I saw up to my part. 😁 It was great meeting you and the crew. And thanks again for the little tug, as well as the t-shirt. I wore it today. 👍 It was definitely a surprise finding you guys behind us. Thanks for all you do! (And our tires were 35s. 😂) OK, I got to watch the rest of the video and damn! Talk about a job! You all did awesome with the recovery.
Welcome to the forest recovery fam! The green things are called trees and the dark spots are called shade, thats where you take breaks. Enjoy the granite!
I very seldom comment, but I was ready to comment on the last several episodes that it seems all the recent recoveries are really easy, one pull, out of the sand no challenge recoveries. And then you bust out with this monstrosity of a recovery, and I am blown away!! The performance of the wrecker was incredible. I am also extremely impressed with Kaitlyn’s performance in operating the wrecker dragging that truck down that trail. Kudos to all.
The whole team gel together perfectly. Thanks to the producers and editing team for packaging it for us fans. You guys rival the best content from Hollywood.
About the damaged tailgate, as Rory tells people when they moan about him possibly damaging things, you can have your truck out on the Rubicon with a perfect tailgate, or you can have it off of the Rubicon with a damaged tailgate. Take your pick.
True buuuuuuuut a tailgate takes 2 seconds to take off. In my mind had they done that to start with it probably would have avoided the problem entirely. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
@@Atodaso-pg9kqI mean with the amount of times that boom is dangerously close to the towed vehicle, they really should have anticipated that and removed the tailgate. Yes, recovery always has the possibility of added damage, but there is a difference between collateral damage and damage as a result of negligence.
Had they taken the tailgate off it would have allowed more swing towards the wrecker. The rear bumper would have been riding on the boom. The tailgate was a sacrificial lamb to causing more damage to both vehicles.
Wow - Matt was on it today - "This is a normal sized Mountain Dew..." and "this battery powers the Millennium Falcon and Star Trek Enterprise.." - Incredible recovery, fantastic job. Thank you for allowing to experience some of the Rubicon and your fantastic machines.
It’s so funny, I noticed the damaged tailgate, paused the video, went back, checked it wasn’t previously damaged, ran to the comments, hadn’t noticed anyone saying anything. Not a minute later Matt addressed in video. Truly a professional!!
LOL. Same reason I'm reading the comments now. Saw the damage at just shy of 24:00 mark, went back in video and noticed it wasn't damaged. Was wondering if it would be addressed :D
Again, same reason for reading the comments as others have stated. @mattsoffroadrecovery , please share how that played with the customer. If it were my truck then I would be cool given where I left my truck.
Definitely one of the best videos on UA-cam! Every off-roader should watch it because no matter how prepared you are, things still happen. But you still need to prepare for your adventure.
Matt and crew I am a bit of off roader also because I am in charge of 82 people that run a search and rescue here in the Tampa area for the entire state of Florida. I have to fight the sand all the time because of the beaches here BUT no rocks per say. All that being said of all the videos you have done over the years I would have to say this was the most professional and dangerous rescue you have done to date. With all the cameras and help you had it was an ineradicable video and recovery. You are right that the video is 50 minuets but the actual rescue took hours (been there and done that more than one time over 25 years) Tell the crew great job and you owe them all new shirts and the cost of laundry for all the work the did. As for the tail gate if it were mine I would be proud to keep it as is and I would have a magnetic sign made that I would post on the bent gate that would say something like "I took on the RUBICON TRAIL and all I got was this tail gate) . I would be proud to have made it as far as he did and would want the world to know that at least I tried. It should be something he should be proud of. Again tell the crew what a great job they did as well as all the volunteers that pitched in to make this happen. This is going to be a hard video to top all other recoveries will look tame if anyone has seen this one first. Everyone stay safe and thank you for all the work you put out there
The mix of tight shots showing the wrecker working and wider shots showing the context of the obstacle was great. Awesome job from the camera operators!
Now I know why Matt built the Wrecker!! The Rubicon and the Soup Bowl flexed the muscles of the Wrecker but didn't come close to stopping it!! That was one of the coolest (no lake water pun intended) recoveries ever. And it was so cool that you could help out a number of trail riders along the way. Colby sitting in the chair was epic! Just taking in the scenery! The local, the customer/ camera man/drone operator, the other drivers, all added to a very satisfying video. Thanks Matt!
23 years ago I broke my transfer case on the rubicon. I had to leave my jeep there and go get a replacement and then swap it on the trail. I wish MORR was around to get me out!
@@Michael666CA I have very strong memories of making a cardboard head gasket for an old VW engine in a buddy's buggy. Made it just far enough to get back on the trailer and it was unhappy about it the entire way.
Hey, Matt, I did my first kinetic rescue today using the techniques you've shown on your channel. Worked slick! My grandson got his 4WD pickup completely high centered in the sand on the shore of the river that runs through our farm. He and his friends worked hours trying to dig it out last night and this morning. Once I hooked up to it with my big "bungee" I had him out in 2 seconds! Thanks for the channel...
As a UK viewer, seeing the way your team operates has always impressed me - but THIS recovery stands out above all the rest. Awesome job by everyone involved!
Its so impressiv how good Kathlyn is in all the rigs and her enthusiasm towards the trail and what all the rigs are capable of. On top of that we have this wonderful giant of father and crew chief with his mindblowing simplistic and functional ideas of how to solve a crime like situation and how to tackl the terrain. I'm once again impressed by the content you guys provide! Everybody on your team is just one kind person after another.
This must surely be the best Matt's Off Road Recovery team effort. Love it that Matt is helping the younger people learn to get even better at what they do.
That's the best recovery to date. Katlen did a great job following instructions from Matt. Collin is allowed to skip the jym tonight, but he needs to start preparing for arm wrestling. That would really help him out for being the one in the broken vehicle. I'm glad everyone had a great time, and nobody was badly injured in such a rough recovery. I noticed how everyone made room for the recovery vehicle. They are truly professional people out there on the Runicon Trail.
What a great 59:11 of pure entertainment. The Wrecker is a monster as it pulls out a full grown PU! Every person played an integral part in getting there then returning back..great job! Thanks Matt.
I'm not quite done, about a lil over half, but it would have been SO HARD to pull that out without the wrecker. It was definitely the right tool for the job. I see Matt is delegating authority and resources more than ever, and crosstraining everybody on everything. This is gonna be an expert team. Databyter
Matt, you showed a lot of leadership in having the young members driving. Your experience as a spotter was put to a test. This is one of the best videos you have ever made. Slow and steady wins the race!!!!
The Rubicon has changed so much over the years, back in the 70s when I first ran it, the only rigs that could make it were Jeeps, old Scouts, early Broncos, FJ40s and Nissan Patrols or the like. The passage between trees and boulders were so tight no wider vehicle could even get started on the trail. I went over the trail many times in the 70s with an FJ40 with 1100 15 Tru tracks by Armstrong, and no lockers or lift kits, only had very basic rock sliders and we learned to shield our tail lights with armor. Many rigs took heavy damage, that was common, altho I was lucky(?) with the Toyota. BTW stock 6 cylinder with only a "Man A Fre" kit on it. THere was no "Soup Bowl". The main thing I remember was the "Big Sluice" and the "Little Sluice" and the dreaded Cadilac Hill going out. Fun times.
Driving on Rubicon is already tough, but to save a broken rig through that trail is 10 times tougher! What an episode, white knuckle all the way👍 Knowing Matt crews are safe recovery conscious, but “buy the customer a tail gate” is showing the level of customer care that went beyond the typical off-road towing companies🤗
What a rescue !!! Colin's strength in wrestling that dead wheel truck BACKWARDS ( over TALL rocks no less ) was nothing short of heroic . Meanwhile little Katelynn ( under Matts professional and careful eye ) was TOWING A PICK UP TRUCK over topography that most people couldn't drag a steering wheel through . An EPIC and astonishing retrieval , showcasing that through leadership and teamwork , the nearly impossible can be made to look not only doable , but routine .
I liked the last several videos quite a bit, but I feel like I liked this one 11% more than the last one. What a workout steering that dead truck thru those conditions for so long. Collin is a real Trooper
Wow, that was amazing. I lived in CA for 32 years and have been over that trail 5 times. Each time I recognized an area all I could think was, "there is no way". And yet that wrecker pulled the truck over the terrain. And stopped to help others a few times. I think your wrecker is about ten times more badass than I considered it before this video. There are several of those down hills I could not imagine being able to tow a vehicle over. I remember how rough they were going up them. Incredible is all I can say
What an epic recovery. Morrvair, Rubicon tested! Heavy Wrecker, Rubicon tested and passed with flying flags and last but not least I give Collin a Medall for doing part of the Rubicon in Reverse!
EVERY MINUTE of this was thrilling. We should all love life like Katelynn does. She recognized when to stop and smell the flowers in life when she knew to get out of the cab and show how the machines were conquering the terrain. If you find people like her in your life, keep them close as they are not common enough IMO.
Oh wow this is by far the most amazing video from Matt's Off road recovery yet! It has everything in it drama, suspense, fun, awe inspiring scenery and so many awesome people involved in this filming. Matt, Kaulin, KateLynn, Kolby were all awesome at what they were doing getting this Nisson recovered. Good video!
My husband and I are stuck in Yuma with 110° temperature this summer. Normally we would be in Utah or Colorado. We watch you all the time. You are the best part of our days.
East coast here, how timely. Been watching you since the beginning, spent last evening telling my neighbor that he doesn’t want to take his brand new stock gladiator on the Rubicon but he persisted that it is “trail rated”. East Coast just doesn’t understand, We drop tires off the driveway and lock the hubs. I’ll give him your number
It depends on which trim level he has, if it's a Rubicon trim then it should handle the Rubicon stock. The Rubicon is a serious trail but there's also bypasses around most of the large obstacles, I've read that 33s and 3" lift will get you through. Of course, you might get some trail pinstripes, which he might not want on his new truck.
My first thought when I saw the Gladiator in person was, it is as large as it seemed in advertising. Not sure it's ready for more than malls without 35"
This is the most awesome recovery for the wrecker a great run for the Morrvair and Colby. What a great job Caitlyn did running the wrecker. For me, this and the Golden Nugget stand out as the best recovery videos. You can now say that the Wrecker and the Morrvair are "Rubicon Rated"!
I think this is by far one of the best videos the MORR crew has produced. Epic trail, amazing teamwork, and great video shots... some of those shots you could really tell how steep the hills were and that is hard to do. Great job!
Nuthin' but good, clean, wholesome, rugged outdoor adventures! Some of THE very best content on You Tube.......Keep it up, MORR! The Sierra Mountains of California are some of the prettiest ever. A different animal from the red sandstone of Southern Utah. Great team effort. The folks that needed the side jobs are fortunate that MORR came along. Thanks for sharing!
Matt, What a great experience you have given for all of those young adults. Your leadership, patience and experience are so great to watch. It's been a lesson in family culture for all of us watching. I hope they know how fortunate they are. Jim Robinson, Gorham, ME
The thing that impressed me the most was the humbleness and selflessness of Matt just casually saying "no, you are going to do it" and let everyone else have the incredible experience of driving on this iconic trail and doing something they will never forget!
I am Northern California born and raised. I’ve done the Rubicon Trail 2 times with friends. I have since moved to the Midwest 8 years ago and I can not express to you just how much I miss the Lake Tahoe/Sierra region. Absolutely breath taking beauty. Thank you for this amazing video. It allowed me to relive some of my younger days and will hold me over until I can get back again. Great teamwork on full display!
Getting Katelynn to drive the wrecker out - SMART MOVE. She was fair buzzing and the experience she got is priceless. Fantastic job. Greetings from New Zealand.
@@thomasbrovont4114 Buzzing = full of excitement, thrilled etc. I don't know if the phrase is used around the world but here in Middle Earth it's common as is people referring to something as "buzzy" meaning 'thrilling'.
Rubicon = go till you break something. Because you will break something. As a high schooler, a neighbor had an Old School Land Cruiser. He rigged it out with a welder and would go up and ride the trail and make money welding people and vehicles back to safety.
If you guys ever do any "best of" or "roundup" videos, you've got to put that original TomTom 11% calculation clip in there. You've gotten so much mileage out of that, I love it.
Old mate may have taken his Nissan out for a bit of fun for himself and scored a heap of fun for MORR and hundreds of thousands of randoms around the world. Thanks for taking one for the team mate and thanks MORR for bringing it to us!
How the heck that frontier get that far anyway? Two of my buddies and I hiked Desolation Wilderness years ago and came across these rock crawlers on the Rubicon. What a sight to see…most of these 4x4’s had welding equipment strapped to them! Essential gear if you have room…😅
Matt is the ultimate boss... He sees his workers as a greatly valued team and treats them as such! Letting Kolby drive his dream-come-true trail; giving up the wrecker seat so Kaitlyn can run it on the hardest trail ever; treating Kaulin as an equally skilled recovery leader....Doesn't get any better than that! Matt is da man, and his team is the greatest!! :-)
I can’t believe I watched this whole thing! What an escape from reality. I can’t imagine what you all are going through doing these rescues. I used to drive an international dump truck exactly like the one the wrecker is made of. I remember how incredibly small the cab was, especially for such a large vehicle. What a design Matt. I also love the Morvair. I had a Monza coup back in the day. Not especially enamored with the corvair but love what you have made it into. Keep up the great work you make me smile and laugh a lot.
I have never been so glued to a screen than this video. I was born and raised in N. California, I know the area we'll and I miss it so much. Never been on the Rubicon Trail though, I'm good no need to experience that ridiculously hard trail. Hats off to the crew, and it's so nice to see Kaulin so enthusiastic agout the different tasks, Matt's Off Road has another generation that is very capable of taking over the reins.
Caitlan is doing an excellent job in the truck, and she looks so calm like she has been doing the Rubicon all her life. Great job Caitlan. Collin, looks to be the best man in the Nissan and holding that wheel.
Most people are happy if their vehicle makes it thru the Rubicon trail. The wrecker did it towing another vehicle. That's incredible. I know was only part of the trail but still crazy
Incredible episode! I used to live up there on lake Tahoe. Every week we were in the wilderness enjoying what you just showed us. I worked as a diver in those alpine lakes. As you decend into the crystal clear depths about every 15 ft is like entering a colder room than the one you just swam through. Some of the best memories of my life are from those days in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Congrats on a great recovery. Godspeed.
I know what you're up to, Matt. You did a Rubicon recovery for a reason. You're throwing down the gauntlet of challenge to those diesel guys building their 6x6 even bigger offload wrecker, aren't you? Kaitlynn may be the rear steer queen,, but Kaulin has bragging rights, "I did the Rubicon... backwards!"
As everyone has stated that wrecker is just awesome but you have a much better tool in your tool bag. Your team is amazing. Colby is always there for the great shots and help where he is needed. Kaitlyns (probably spelled that wrong) knowledge and ability at rock crawling and her ability to drive that wrecker is so valuable and Colin, well what can you say. For him to be able to steer that thing out of there with no power steering or brakes is unbelievable. Great job by the whole team.
Hat's off to your entire team. Matt, the lessons you're teaching those youngsters are indescribable. You, Chad, and Paul deserve awards for the way you are teaching and setting the example for all the young adults you're raising. It's absolutely fantastic. As Robbie gets a little further in years, and his children and those from his team get older. I hope the three of you keep him in the fold to provide the same for them. Looking at the events taking place in today's world. It's absolutely fantastic to see this, and all the you're doing. Your patience and demeanor are shining examples combined with your knowledge and experience. We need more of this in the world today.
Never losing his attention to how he approaches them in his requests. Just fantastic teamwork in a situation that was rife with opportunities for it all to go south. Awesome! Fun and exciting.
Welcome to northern CA. We watch all your videos. Thank you for the good family entertainment. 👍
Facts
How many people would let a 17 year old-even though an expert rock crawler-drive the wrecker on that job? That’s great leadership right there. Truly. I should send this video to the coach of the Seattle Storm who never plays rookies.
I love the Wrecker. He started with a tape measure and some steel stock. Welded on a lot of found objects, and stuff made from more steel stock. And here we are. Not bad for a man with no idea what he was doing.
Just got my own first 4X4, Frontier, and watching again to learn all I can how to and how not to use it from the Master of Off-road.
Don't forget Tom Tom bought those axles and the dream came alive........
When they first started the build on the wrecker, I didn’t think it would be used as much as it is
Honestly 90% of these projects end up as piles of parts and never get done. The fact it's finished, wired, painted, that's impressive... the fact it works the way it does is mind boggling!!
Don't forget the mad scientist Tom Tom had part in this...
She is amazing, I think she has more abilities then what is shown in these videos.
Picture her away at college, having to listen to some blowhard at a party boast about breaking an axle on the rubicon. "Oh, I drove the rubicon...in a wrecker...rescuing morons like you!"
I can hear to say the same thing! Katelynn is a BOSS at anything rock climbing! ❤
@@914Rocky yeah, but she doesn't weld like Lizzy.
I wanna give a shout out to the stand in customer camera man. Dude did a good job getting action shots.
At one point I was wondering how is there drone footage of Colby filming
There was some cool value-adding here and there by the guest cammoe.
That's what I said... This video raised the bar.
That's what I said... this video raises the bar.
@AlWorth9738Kolbie
Imagine being stuck on the Rubicon, and none other than Matt's Off-road Recovery rounds the corner. That would be both awesome, and convenient. Also, watching the wrecker work, and flex out doesn't ever get old. Such a killer rig!
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
It was an unexpected surprise and quite the treat
Imagine being out on the trail thinking "Man I just need an arc welder and this repair job would be easy!" and lo and behold an arc welder comes round the bend.
@theamazingcheese001 we have welder vendors local here. Pretty self sustaining out here without these guys.
Don't agree 100% with comment on Kaitlyn. I felt she was too fast. I say that in comparison to the speed the soup bowl taken.
It’s easy to forget sometimes just how good everyone on this crew is at their respective jobs. I can’t think of but like 1-2 people their ages I know who I wouldn’t even trust to attempt this stuff.
@@auldman Matt was directing her. Blame him, but don't.
@@auldmanshe literally is a competitive rock crawlers. So yeah, she might be faster than others.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍🤞🤞🤞🤞
A 6 foot piece of pipe with a eye in each end hooked to your pintal hitch and Clevis on the other end to the toed rig would stop the swinging
How did you manage to get it out with no tow rig?
The Wrecker climbing the Soup Bowl reminded me of a monster crawling out of its den in the morning. Love it.
Thanks for getting the rig out! The community appreciates you (and thanks for letting me drive the Wrecker!! Amazing)

Well said.
Katelynnes throttle control is amazing, she feels her way along. Well done team.
I agree.
They may have knocked if off the planet.
Excellent job Katelyn and Kolin great watching
There's another contender from early on where they got a white twincab off the side of a hill. Good recovery with more basic equipment.
The whole group did a great job!
I enjoyed watching this video 11% more than I thought I would . . . . .
He became 11% better after this trip.
I think he earned a new tailgate too!

That whole area is great from Loon lake to union valley reservoir to the place I grew up camping gerle creek… 10/10 highly suggest camping there!

AMERICAN CHOPPER COMES TO MIND!
Been watching since the beginning of Matts Off-road.
The wrecker doing the Rubicon is impressive for sure.
Matt - The way you teach and guide the kids is something to behold. Never harsh, never panicked, just calm smooth directions. You are building their confidence with your belief in their skills. I really love to watch your team work. Thanks for vids.
He does a great job, but of course you realize not everything is filmed, right?
@@mediocreman2why do assholes like u always gotta be that guy?
Yeah the tailgate took a beating. I went back to about 22:14 to see what it looked like to start. No doubt a good story to tell.

OK, I got to watch the rest of the video and damn! Talk about a job! You all did awesome with the recovery.
Oh man, did you see that SMILE on Matt's face watching his dream walk that wall. The Elephant steel slithering like a Snake.👍😁😊
Welcome to the forest recovery fam! The green things are called trees and the dark spots are called shade, thats where you take breaks. Enjoy the granite!
You may need to define "tree" and "shade" for the southern Utah crowd 😂
I very seldom comment, but I was ready to comment on the last several episodes that it seems all the recent recoveries are really easy, one pull, out of the sand no challenge recoveries. And then you bust out with this monstrosity of a recovery, and I am blown away!! The performance of the wrecker was incredible. I am also extremely impressed with Kaitlyn’s performance in operating the wrecker dragging that truck down that trail. Kudos to all.
When I saw it was a 59 minute video I was wondering, “what the heck?”. But Wow, what a trip that was. Worth watching every minute.

You're right on the money, Doug! Loved every minute.
That tailgate is 11% morr crooked than it was when they started.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow - Matt was on it today - "This is a normal sized Mountain Dew..." and "this battery powers the Millennium Falcon and Star Trek Enterprise.." - Incredible recovery, fantastic job. Thank you for allowing to experience some of the Rubicon and your fantastic machines.
It’s so funny, I noticed the damaged tailgate, paused the video, went back, checked it wasn’t previously damaged, ran to the comments, hadn’t noticed anyone saying anything. Not a minute later Matt addressed in video. Truly a professional!!
samething here just was curious why they didnt take it off to start with.
LOL. Same reason I'm reading the comments now. Saw the damage at just shy of 24:00 mark, went back in video and noticed it wasn't damaged. Was wondering if it would be addressed :D

@@darylwallace783Hindsight is 20/20?
Again, same reason for reading the comments as others have stated. @mattsoffroadrecovery , please share how that played with the customer. If it were my truck then I would be cool given where I left my truck.

I have watched almost all of the recoveries, this was EPIC! A true once in a lifetime recovery! It was child’s play for the wrecker!!

There is no satisfaction like repairing your own breakdowns, though!
Need to paint the ceiling of the wrecker ?
Trail repairs are always satisfying. Axles, drive shafts, welding broken parts and the ole blown Head gaskets fix.
@@Michael666CA I have very strong memories of making a cardboard head gasket for an old VW engine in a buddy's buggy. Made it just far enough to get back on the trailer and it was unhappy about it the entire way.
the grease-spot was still there on the soup-bowl bypass around 18:10
If there's ever to be a "Matt's Off Road" highlight reel, the wrecker doing soup bowl would be the cherry on top!!! That just maxed out the cool meter
The look on Matt's Face right after the Wrecker just walked up those rocks was priceless.

I feel all warm and fuzzy watching this. For those that look down on offroading for whatever reason, watch this. This is why we do this.
Colby and I have spoken about this trail before. I'm so glad he got to go and drive!
Visually, this might be the best MORR video yet. Incredibly beautiful country. Props to the camera folks! They grabbed some fantastic action shots

I seldom add a comment, but this recovery was 11% percent better than most. Nicely done.
I'm not quite done, about a lil over half, but it would have been SO HARD to pull that out without the wrecker. It was definitely the right tool for the job. Warms the Heart to see family operate together. God BLess yaall.
Fun times.
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Driving on Rubicon is already tough, but to save a broken rig through that trail is 10 times tougher! What an episode, white knuckle all the way👍 Knowing Matt crews are safe recovery conscious, but “buy the customer a tail gate” is showing the level of customer care that went beyond the typical off-road towing companies🤗
If I was the owner, I’d refuse a new tail gate and keep the smashed one on there as a battle scar and memento of its journey!
Matt's insurance can cover the cost of a replacement tailgate.
@SBDavin usually the cost of a minor part such as a tailgate would cost much less than the insurance premiums would go up if they made a claim.
@@met454 If I were the owner, I'd be so happy to get my vehicle back, I wouldn't care about the tailgate

You guys need to carry a plumb bob attached to a magnet to show the angle of the hills you drive up. The wrecker is awesome!
This is my favorite episode now. I could actually use your help. I’m stuck on my couch and could use some help getting towed out of here.

And Katelynn Rubicon tested driving a wrecker and towing a truck!
Collin did a great job driving the Rubicon backwards not many people can say that

@@kuebby33s and a lift on a Wrangler maybe if you're willing to bash it, but I dunno about a Gladiator

Kaitlyn exudes confidence in driving the wrecker. Good job Kaitlyn
Her personality transforms behind the wheel
Congrats on building the wrecker Matt and team. I don’t think that machine has still been tested to its full limits yet.
😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Not sure what "fair buzzing" means but it sounds good. lol
Apparat from the dented tail gate, pretty nice
@@Rimrock300yeah, they should have removed the tailgate
@@thomasbrovont4114 Buzzing = full of excitement, thrilled etc. I don't know if the phrase is used around the world but here in Middle Earth it's common as is people referring to something as "buzzy" meaning 'thrilling'.

44:07 Morrvair looking beastly!!! Such an awesome conversion!!!
Rubicon = go till you break something.
Because you will break something.
As a high schooler, a neighbor had an Old School Land Cruiser. He rigged it out with a welder and would go up and ride the trail and make money welding people and vehicles back to safety.
"Welding people"? 🤔
An hour long Rubicon special !!! Awesome way to start the weekend...
Most people are happy if their vehicle makes it thru the Rubicon trail. The wrecker did it towing another vehicle. That's incredible. I know was only part of the trail but still crazy
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This was one of my favorite rescues. Katlin, loved watching you drive the wrecker out. You go girl!!
I like the soundtrack that the tow truck makes. The creaking and squeaking has something of a windjammer (tall ship) and is very relaxed and confident
Kaitlynn may be the rear steer queen,, but Kaulin has bragging rights, "I did the Rubicon... backwards!"
That sounds like a challenge for Rory.
They’d take a dozer and plow the trail
❤❤❤❤❤❤😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
...with no power steering.
