I welded "weld on" grab hooks on the front bucket and the box scraper on a 570 Case tractor many years ago. I even used those hooks to self-extract it once when another operator buried it in mud and told the owner they would need to get other equipment to extract it. I told the owner that I would have it out in half an hour and did it without any helpers. I was about 68 at the time and these others were in their 20's. Understanding physics and hydraulics makes a big difference when operating and extracting equipment.
My husband put hooks on both are tractor buckets. Best idea he had in a while.
trailer D rings are another good thing to weld on...they come in alot of sizes....
Glad to see you use the guards on your grinders!

I was just wondering y you didn't?
I came here just to say this.
@@MrHellboy6910 Because he is a city boi trying to be passed off as a country boy.
Great job beautiful welding. I missed seeing you and your great videos.
Just bought a set of bolt on hooks with the d rings. 4 holes to drill maybe a backing plate and I'm good to go.
Probably the factory doesn't want the liability for people overloading a hook and not using properly rated chains.
there you go. thinking outside the box. Thats precisely the reason they don't weld hooks in the factory.
What were you welder settings?
I assume a 7018 rod was used by the way the slag fell off? I just ordered a 6 pack of 3/8 hooks for $19..:)
Weld on hooks are available on Amazon or eBay. They are beveled for welding and you don't have to do all the grinding. Looks great though. Just saying you could save some time and grinding wheels.
Great improvement. We have done this to a few of the loader buckets on our farm also. My only concern would be water/mud getting in behind the angle iron and rusting the unpainted surfaces inside there. I probably would have welded the whole joint and then made plates to weld the ends of the angle closed. Not criticizing though- still turned out great
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe paint the back first and then strip off the areas where the welds will be. At least 90% would be painted.
I use a cheap pump up bug sprayer with the plastic wad and spray inside areas like that to coat everything instead of trying to make it airtight. If you do a full weld.along the seam without post heat you can have issues with it cracking, that's why on a lot of equipment you will see "stitch welds" vs complete welding of the seam on "thinner stuff (less than ½ thick)
Thanks Mr. Chuckles
😏
Good job
Good video. Thanks for the idea of using angle iron. I was thinking of a metal plate just behind the lip and welding to that. I like the angle iron idea better.
I’m fairly new to welding. I noticed you didn’t do one long weld. How do I know how many welds and how far apart to space them to do it like you did?
Basic math, so easy even one of my community college welding students could understand it. One cubic inch of weld metal has 60,000 pounds of holding ability. (Tensile strength.) That would be about 32 linear inches of V shaped weld bead in a lap weld such as shown here. So you should get about 1, 875 pounds per linear inch.
So on a 2 inch hook, he is getting about 3,750 on each side, or 7500 total. As long as the length of weld on the reinforcement angle iron is at least that much, you should be fine. Skip welding (2" on, 2-6" space, 2" on) and going like you would tighten lugs on a wheel (1 - 3 - 5, 2 - 4 - 6) evens out stresses and reduces warping.
@@TrollworksForge thank you.
If you can't remove your bucket from your tractor, disconnect your battery cables before welding on any vehicle or piece of equipment.
So as long as you put your ground right next to your work You'll be fine. Cause it always takes the path of least resistance
@@DaleJacaway I bet it's fun when you don't have a good ground,even though you're close by.
On my recent project I didn't wanna take any chances and unplugged anything with a chip in it.
So what if it's extra work, I didn't mind.
Electricity can do odd things, a bad ground in an old mk1 vw can make that mechanical speedometer read high and by the time you notice, you've killed it enough that it will be ruined.
It tried to find a ground thru tht speedo head.
@@DaleJacaway I wouldn't bet an ECM on that. They get kinda expensive.
Is it ok to weld a bucket or attachments while they are still attched to tractor,,neighbor says onboard electronics could be fried,,??I dont see how if all is turned off,,
They should come from the factory like that
Nice work. 👍
Did you just use 7018?
Nice job god bless
You do know you can buy hooks ready for welding for about the same price as the ones you modified?
He already had the hooks.
@@sureshots8155 No, he cut them off of chains so now has a length of chain without any hooks.
Helll yeaaaa…. 👊🏻
Why not buy regular weld on hooks then you don't have to cut it in half before you weld them
Why not purchase weld on hooks instead of cutting chain hooks?
Boing Boing Boing Boing Twang Twang Twang My womuns left me at the Cowboy Tavern Lsst night. I love this music.
Hurry up, play the record backwards and your woman comes back and brings your dog and pickup truck back too! 😄
Why not have the tractor company put on hooks at the factory and beef up where you have them
Why not just buy hooks without the coating an pin? Edit. I see the comment, lol.
Why on earth would you cut down those hooks as opposed to buy ones designed to be welded that have a more substantial base? Sorry, but I don't think this is a good idea, cost effective or advisable.
not excactly rocket science
you did it wrong you did it wrong do not use a hook that's for a chain by the correct hook to do the job they sell weld on hooks for the job any size you want you should never modify a hook that's made for something else
Don’t be a women.
