Best Accessory for your Tractor Bucket for Less than $10. Weld on Grab Hooks.

- Today I am adding weld on grab hooks to my loader bucket. If you don't have a welder you can purchase bolt on grab hooks instead. You can use these hooks as a lifting point to hoist heavy objects or equipment with chain. Or you could use these hooks to attach equipment to the tractor bucket. These hooks are fairly inexpensive and very handy to have.

Hilarious. after using forks like this for years, i didn't even think about using chains and binders on them. that would have saved me from warping my bucket. genius!
Nicely done. Proud old A-C D 17. She's still going strong.
Got to love the ole D 17. Great woods tractor. Keeps you off tops of stumps. Great video.
Definitely a must have Evan. I put these on my bucket, the best investment you can do for your Loader. I probably paid more for mine as i got mine at a John Deere dealership but made my loader so much more useful. Thabks buddy.
Great video . I like them being welded on . Even if I had to bring the tractor to a welding shop I'd do it . Most homesteaders have a welder of some kind . Smart in adding those chain binders . Not all of the pressure is on the bottom of the bucket . Like the way you used the bottom of the bucket for leverage . Smart . Great videos . People can learn a lot from you . I know I have .
Love your tractors! I have a 801 Ford and an 885 David Brown/Case I use all the time.
I did not hear you mention it in the video, but one thing worth noting is that when welding onto an implement that is ATTACHED to your tractor it is always good insurance to DISCONNECT the tractor's battery to prevent any electrical "arcing" that could damage any electronics.
@Country View Acres I welded mine on exactly the same way. Very handy.
Yep, those hooks are about as handy as a pocket on a shirt. That's ideal mounting the hooks inline with the loader frame/bucket cylinders. Putting the chains on your pallet forks & bale spear will keep the cutting edge of the bucket from getting bowed downward. I've put hooks on my loader bucket the same way & for the same reasons mentioned. Good job sharing the information about the hooks also. Stay safe.
Evan, you got your job done! 👌👏👍
Good video Evan.
Good video. I need to do this on my newest addition to homestead, JD 146 loader on a 2640.
You are De Man! YOU ARE A GOOD WELDER AND YOU KNOW IT !
These hooks are a must have in my opinion. Worth their weight in gold. They should come standard from the factory.
Nice job thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the excellent video. I need to do this one of these days.
Enjoyed a full watch
Good job thanks for sharing with us.
Some welder on YT said it much better to first weld those hooks to steel plate and only then to the bucket it should spread the load better and its also easyer to repair if bend or torn off
Nice job.
5/27/21 nice job . . . it seems when you need a chain hook on bucket . . .need it when need it
Cool awesome video
I drilled a hole in the bucket and put a hook with a pin so I can take it off whenever I like
Good job and you may have left out an added benefit... a well ventilated t-shirt. 😊😊
👍
Evan, what’s happening with the hay field. Hooks and chains will be very useful
The hay field is getting planted tomorrow or the next day. We just finalized a deal. Should have a video up in a week.
well done
I was wondering if you could find paint to match the color of the bucket. Pretty good match?
Just found your videos! Great to watch
Make your own out of 3/8” T1 plate ???? Easy..Ya you also make it with a 3/4” hole for a shackle. Slings are safer than chains.
Thank you for your content Evan.
Any apples yet?
Yes, we have harvested the Gala apples. Or at least what was left after the wildlife started taking them. I think we will put up an electric fence next year around harvest time.
Very nice. I bought a set of bolt-on hooks but have not installed them yet. I would rather have the welded hooks, but I don't have a welder and I am really not that good at welding anyway. I do have a set of pallet forks like yours, and I must say that they are one of the most used and useful tools that I have.
I bought 2 more hooks that are 5/16, that I am going to weld them on about 8 inches inward from the others, just to mount the pallet forks. The 3/8" hooks I welded on are just a little big for 1/4 inch chain. So I will have 4 hooks on the bucket soon.
Nice job. I am new Evan but I spy another classic tractor. What make and model?
I have an 1959 allis chalmers D17 and a 1961 J.I. Case 730.
be nice to see a bit of paint on the tractors
Where is Southern Illinois is your place. (what town are you close to?)
I dont like to get specific. But I live in southeastern Illinois a few miles from the wabash river bordering indiana.
Nice work Evan. Still using your noggin, I see. 😇👌💯 Whatever it takes to work smarter, not harder.
👍👏👏👏👏
Where did you get the forks
Titan attachments.
" I was at my nards....." 😂😂😂😂😂😂
A grinder and a can of spray paint hides a lot of sins! LOL
👍
A grinder and paint make me the welder I aint
I actually think the hooks would work as they are AS LONG as you use them in the same manner. A single chain or cable, turned at 90 degrees to where you are.
If the chain or cable snap, it'll most likey fly up in the air away from you towards the end that's still attached.
In the bucket is definitely safest though.
You've got something solid between you and that loose end and those things can snap back at you faster than you can cuss and get outta the way!!! And chains don't have as much stretch to them as cable, so I'd only use chain, less inertia builds into that loose end if it doesn't stretch as much. And last
As you're using a chain and hooks
The links are going to more than likely get hung up in the hook, limiting how much traveling that loose end is going to do.
In the bucket is still the best way,, I've listed a lot of maybes and mights but something to catch that loose end and break its inertia and something solid between you and it, outweighs the maybes and it mights.
$10... if you've got a welding rig. 😅
Need to go inside the bucket, that way if the chain snaps it does not come at you like a missile
👍 Good idea.
Trust me it happens, muffler save me.
Please explain why safer. It seems if hook welded to inside of bucket... a broken chain in tension could still hit the operator.
