I used to think the sequel was a tragedy, but now I realize it's a comedy
It's a bad fanfic. Not a canon. I'll treat it this way. Luke, Leia and Han deserve better conclusion.
Abrams is a good comedian. Which is weird seeing how he can only steal the work of others

I’m gonna be a cynic and point out that comedies don’t end with death in plays, but the joke still works. Good one.

Ironically, a palpatine is saying that.

The Skywalker saga concluded with Return of the Jedi. The End.
And it began with Episode 1.
There was never a episode 7, 8 & 9!
;-)
Star Wars ended then. It wasn't perfect but compared to the Prequels and Sequels it's a masterpiece.
Everything since the original trilogy has been sporadically interesting and if better executed could have been decent.
And most of us thought that was a pretty ropey film when it came out...
The Empire is soundly defeated by little teddy bears FFS.
The first two films were classics though. The first being a fantastic action fantasy and the second stepping into sci-fi film-noir territory; putting it so far ahead of the other films it cannot be overstated.
Except return of the Jedi sucks and this movie didn’t.

they may have had their problems but at least they knew where they were going. Can't say the same for the sequels...
Prequels are so much more better. Yes dialogue is wooden but still the story make sense.
I swear my little nephew wrote the film with names like “Finn, Rey and Poe” and the first order turning into the “last order” so cheesy
I dont have an issue aith the naming of the main cast, I prefer simple names over overly 'high fantasy' names. Star Wars has always been a franchise with very consise naming. Han. Luke. Maul. All very clear monosyllabilic names. Ana-kin. Obi-Wan. Pad-me. Two syllables but still very simple and straight forward.
So tldr: the naming for the cast is perfectly fine, I agree on the naming of everything else tho, its getting rediculous
I don't mind the names. I thought the last order was sort of like a punchline to a joke that didn't land very well. It just felt a bit... nah. I got the impression that people didn't much care for e Empire, but not everything was awful for the bulk of the galaxy's population, but the last order is just plainly super evil for shits and giggles, so I just thought it was incredibly stupid.
Okay thats just nitpicking
@@SinWeissfell the last order makes it sound like palp knew he was gonna lose
You mean Final Order
So Anakin basically died for no reason as the “chosen one”
Exactly, his sacrifice was pointless
Anakin was a failure. He was supposed to be the chosen one, but wasn´t for WAY too long. Yes he betrayed the emperor- after the jedi were slaughtered and God knows how many people died from the war with the rebels, and countless civilians opressed and murdered.
@@bernardoheusi6146 was he? he was a mere pawn in the never ending war between Jedi and Sith , no one really gave a shit about him and his needs, no one cared about him as a person, his needs did not matter. He was manipulated by Palpatine and used by Jedi. No wonder he snapped;
Bernardo Heusi um the chosen one was meant to being balance to the force. 2 sith vs hundreds of jedi. Yeah not exactly balanced. He kills all the jedi but yoda and obi wan. Meaning 2 vs 2. Aka balance.

I think Jeremy Jahns summarized this trilogy perfectly:
"Its made by people that kinda know Star War-ish things but have no idea what Star Wars is"
Sabbath388 100% it’s made by a Comitee not by fans or knowledgeable people.
Exactly. It was made by corporate suits that have no knowledge of Star Wars, that have no love, passion or vision for it.
These sequels are cash-ins. Just think, Force Awakens released very soon after Disney acquired LucasFilm (only 3 years). I think it was rushed out the door by Disney to kickstart the money train for Disney’s Star Wars canon
The movies were made by a bunch of nihilists who thought that they could do a better job than George.
It also feels like it was made by people who had no vision or story to tell with this franchise.
the chosen one prophecy that’s been around for over a millennia lasts for 30 years and then one of the most powerful sith to exist comes back like it’s nothing. like wtf

Or the bit where you need a magic triangle to help you navigate through some red storm, which only covers a tiny fraction of the space surrounding Exegol. Not to mention that Exegol is a "super secret Sith base" where Emperor Palpatine has been building a super fleet out of thin air, is SO SECRET, that literately everyone has heard of it and that Luke almost found it. Strange how we're only hearing about it now. Luke could have brought it up at some point in The Last Jedi, but I guess he was too busy hiding like a coward and milking sea cows.

This whole trilogy was just a three-part train wreck. They never had a plan, they just wanted to slap together more movies with the Star Wars label to make bucketloads of money. This is what happens when you give the rights for an amazing franchise to a huge corporation.
Lets be real, SW has been a train wreck since before the Disney buyout. Remember how bad Ep. 1 and 2 were? If they wanted to recapture the magic of the original films this clusterfuck of a trilogy was definitely not the way to go. And the SW video games aren't fearing any better since Disney gave EA a 10 year exclusivity deal.
@@Ravengagepvl While the prequels are bad, they're bad for a different reason - poor acting/dialog (depends on if you think it's the fault of the bad lines or poor execution of the script), and not because of the overall story/plot. The plot in the prequel movies actually made sense, unlike these movies that just zigzag all over the place without any idea where they're going.
@@SethalaTheGamer That's true. But different shit is still shit. I dunno, it's sad.
The unanswerable question is how could the biggest company in the world, with everything at its disposal, not write a thoroughly cohesive, well done trilogy of a totally new story that continues the saga?
Very true, Disney is not George Lucas. George had a vision for the original trilogy since the beginning. Disney on the other hand is a corporation that has tried to exploit our appreciation for something that has been around for decades.

I've actually said something similar that the Disney Trilogy of Star Wars is the most expensive Mary Sue fanfiction ever made!
This is why you start with story, and then write the screenplay. There should be people with a whole job that's just "story" and THEN you start writing dialogue and casting and all that jazz. This was a master class in doing litterally everything wrong with the most beloved franchise of all time
To he honest, having a good story doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have good dialogue. One can have a very good idea for a plot but struggle with writing the nuanced details. In fact, that is a popular notion that many people have with the prequels as they had many interesting ideas but the nuances, details, and other executions are questionable. On the flipside, it is possible to have a flawed story that is told with decent dialogue.
That being said, you are right that Disney has neither of these things with the sequel trilogy.

That it actually would get that much worse is still hard to comprehend. The new Trilogy definetly broke new ground. I think it will go into the history books as the absolute worst way a huge franchise has ever been handled.
Yeah it was terrible. AJ is just blinded by nostalgia and comparing it against the 2 movies that are far worse than it. Still, a polished ball of dirt is still dirt.
Nothing about the trilogy, including TFA, makes any sense.
Finn and Kylo Ren had actual character development in TFA. Rey and Snoke were introduced in a way that we knew where the characters were supposed to go, even though they weren't really interesting. We knew Rey was supposed to be the "new new hope", and Snoke was supposed to be the new Darth Sidious, aka the Boss of the new main vilain. The movie also introduced some questions: about Luke's disappearance, about Snoke, about Rey's origins.
In that regard, TFA was definitely a good start. Not a great movie (no Star Wars is a great movie anyway), but a very good _first_ movie that *gave an actual direction for the story and characters.* And then, TLJ happened, lol.

Literally what I felt with every film in this trilogy. Just saying.
I don't know if George Lucas Sequel Trilogy would have been any good, but I can guarantee you one thing he would have planned it out and continued the story in a way that made sense.
George's sequel trilogy was gonna be about han and leias twins and their younger son and with their oldest son Jacen turning to the dark side killing Luke's wife and the jedi students and the main characters would've been Jaina solo, anakin solo and Ben Skywalker, with the whills and darth caedus/Jacen solo as the main antagonists of the trilogy, if you read the books in the 80s the whills created the midichlorians basically anakin and they controlled the origins of the dark side of the force, and the Skywalkers were their puppets
And darth plaguies was gonna be in this trilogy too, he's the only sith( in the comics) that can be resurrected
It would have sucked same way the prequels did
@@dayburks you sure you didn't just get that from the expanded universe books pre-Disney as opposed to what Lucas's plans for the next trilogy really were?

@@vancorelamere1188 I think what he means is that Episode 7 made it sound like the Jedi, the Sith, and the Force were just an urban legend to your average citizen (which is far fetched on its own considering how relatively little time there is between Ep 6 and Ep 7 and how predominant the Sith and the Jedi were at some point) so to make that leap in such a small period of time doesn't make any in-universe sense.
@G Money You just described the problem I have with this sequel trilogy. There is NO recognition that the zeitgeist in which these films are set should be VASTLY different from the original trilogy...given that Palpatine has been overthrown. How did it happen that an Empire stand-in is essentially ruling the galaxy again? What has changed since the conclusion of the previous episode in the series? We're never told. The story told in these three films isn't told badly, IMO (even in The Last Jedi, I loved the interplay between Rey, Luke, Kylo Ren and various combinations of the three characters), but I don't think this is the story that should have been told. It was so similar to the original trilogy in so many respects that it just wore on me after a while.
Lalo not really, it was viewed as a myth/magic in a new hope. And Luke was the only Jedi alive (in the movies that is) by the end of the original trilogy, so going with the way Luke trained a select few privately makes sense people think it is a myth since they haven’t really seen it like at all.

So, even when you say SW 7 is about 50 years after the Clone Wars (and i think it 35 to 40), you would have people (and Veterans, since not everybody in the Army was a Clone) still living who would have encountered Jedi during their life. So, if you tell me the Jedi are a myth i would say that is very gar fetched.
“There is no Episode VII”
George Lucas in a 2005 interview promoting Episode III.
To be fair, he was already working on a possible ep. VII before Disney came into the picture.
They werent paying homage in the farce awakens. They were stealing episode 4 and remaking it but worse.

Siedler Joe stop copy and pasting your fucking comment
the force awaken is also terrible. nothing new just copy and pasted and it was awfully executed.
As bad as the prequels were except for ROTS at least it had a story. The Sequel Trilogy will be forgotten.

I'm sick of starwars receiving praise for being aesthetically pleasing Disney is the richest movie company on the planet. Looking good is a requirement not an option
I hear ya but I think that’s the other way around. Looking good is an option not a requirement.
And it's the part that takes the least effort and no talent

Have you been listening to me and my brothers conversations? We literally said that yesterday fbi agent?

This is the most perfect analogy for this whole mess of a trilogy, hahaha, well played.
It kinda sounds like "can't believe I have to share my toys with girls" it's Disney who made all the desionsons she just inforeced them. We just need to accept this, Disney is soulless and we will never see a good Disney movie again.
this is so accurate its not even funny

I’d rather watch Attack of the Clones everyday for the rest of my life than watch any of the sequel movies
That's the most disgusting thing I've read so far
@Fatima Carrano I feel like the show the clone wars had a much better representation of Anakin's progressive change to the dark side but that's just my opinion
Honestly, the whole new trilogy, episode 7-9 all felt more like fan fiction to me.
It never actually felt like a real sequel.

The horses galloping along the star destroyer makes me think JJ has actually lost his mind.
I laughed so fucking hard at this scene. Unbelievable lol
I thought they were originally supposed to rush the tower? In that way it makes sense.
But since we look at it as a movie, the idea is absurd.
i thought it made sense if they had gone with speeders the first order could have jammed them. did none of you idiots watch the movie? the guy says jam their speeders and the other guy is like they arent using speeders. it was a smart move so stop bitching about nothing

I wonder where the 10.000 dislikes come from. There is no rational reason to dislike this video, even if you enjoyed the movie, the points he makes are valid.
That scene of Anakin screaming and burning to near-death perfectly describes the current state of Star Wars. It's in constant pain and indescribable agony, yet it will never die. It will forever suffer until Disney burns down with it.
But at least he still has that one arm left (Mandalorian).
My friend, Disney is now, and forever will be invincible.
Twenty years. I give Disney twenty years and they’ll reboot the entire franchise and gender swap the leads. Mark my words.
I HATE YOU, DISNEY!!!!!
Disney is burning down NOW.

@@robman976 Indeed, next thing you'll tell me they'll be fighting the AT-ST walkers with sticks and stones!
They rode horses on a ship in the upper atmosphere; hijacked a cannon, and destroyed the massive single ship with navigation with a small bomb...and no one died from the Resistance, ships were fried by the Emperor but amazingly restart...where did all of the tie fighters go? Why are destroyers so weak...why didn't Palpatine possess Rey after she killed him WHICH HE WANTED...why so many Sith...so bad
why should that surprise you? I mean the empire got toppled by ewoks. LOL
They brought the Emperor back so they can destroy the last good things about Star Wars.
I found myself saying "Cheesy" so many times in this movie.

The Prequels seem like a greater success than this.
Dr. Nope we are truly in the dark times if we’re saying something like this
Prequels were awesome
The prequels had bad writing tis true however with that bad writing it did manage to expand the whole universe before the empire and much needed exposition for the next generation of children for Star Wars. These new movies don’t even introduce anything new, just a empire rip off and semi par writing for the most part.
the prequels were boring garbage
@@teph1256 The lightsaber fight of Maul vs Kenobi and Jinn and the pod racing are better than the sequels combined.
I laughed throughout with my 13 y/o brother, both of us grew up with and love SW, and we just laughed at every single decision. Probably denial of how it killed our childhoods
The Rise of Skywalker is so convoluted it ruins the perfect ending the saga had with Return of the Jedi and it makes The Last Jedi look like The Empire Strikes Back. Such wasted potential.

I believe that no matter what Abrams did, this movie would be doomed, Disney was completely stupid in not createing an effective road map and it at the very least should've encouraged the directors to work together on a finished narrative before filming on episode 7 even began. The failure of both this movie and Last Jedi was not caused by either director, but rather it's a consequence of poor management and organization.
Horrible talent management by Kennedy.
@@timothyarnold1679 wasted so much talent. All those great actors that will probably have to carry this burden with them. I hope it doesn't ruin John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver like the prequels did to the two actors playing Anakin.
The concept of "third times a charm" wasn't effective this time lol
I remember when Kathleen said that each director could do whatever they want in a trilogy of movies that depend on each other.
Guess she learned her lesson... Or not.
They don’t care if this trilogy helps the SW universe. They want to sell a billion toys plain and simple. Make rides at their parks and sell the tickets to movies only based on the name. They are corporate through and through.
Sometimes I come back to this just to make myself feel better about my day

After watching Joe's suicide squad review i half expected him to say he like this movie
It's insane to me that they had so much source material to draw on from the post empire extended universe, yet they decided with the latest trilogy to do a Benioff and Weiss, take several wild stabs at it and end up with the knife in their own arm.
