    ☆ ABOUT ME ☆
    I am a former tech worker who lived in NYC for 30 years. When I reached 50, I set out my own and created a business selling on Amazon using their FBA program. Great fun, but neither career left much time for healthy living.
    I turned 60 last year (2023). I found myself 110 pounds overweight and seriously out-of-shape, pre-diabetic, with sky-high cholesterol, and unable to walk for more than 20 minutes without resting.
    I decided to make some major changes. I shut down my Amazon business and started living frugally. Health is more important than money, especially as we grow older. In August 2023 I started the carnivore diet and lost 65 pounds in 3 months.
    Now I’m hooked! I can walk for miles without a rest now. My cholesterol is within normal levels as is my blood pressure. I am no longer pre-diabetic, and I feel 30 years younger!
    After experiencing the benefits, I’ve become passionate about sharing my story to help others.

    Right! All us Carnivores have been through this a few times. Sometimes, I've just eaten whatever, carbs and all. 😂 For me after 2-3 days it's all out of my system and I'm back in Ketosis in a few days. It's just a short interruption in the Carnivore diet and I can get past it pretty well.
    But you're right, eat something before you go so you don't have to eat so much and it's easier to let it pass. If we slip during the holidays, it's not a big setback or anything. Don't feel guilty. You can get back on track the next day and in a few days, Ketosis will return and you can get back to normal. Really folks, don't beat yourself up over this. 💝 Stay happy during the holidays, anything is fixable.

      I agree. It’s a fine line between being inflexible, and giving in to one’s addictions. I think this is a common experience on carnivore.

    I absolutely love how you turned this into an awareness and learning opportunity. Totally agree re responsibility for nonstandard diets, and also in my view you were a class act to graciously partake in a way that worked for you but didn't insult your hosts. Well done you. Fabulous teaching moment for you and for your viewers. Merry Christmas and meat on!

    Don't worry too much about it. I believe many of us are falling off of the wagon this week. I was doing well, up to today and had sweet potato pie, 3 cookies, 2 glasses of Port Wine, and eggnog. It'll be fine as long as I can cut it off there. I expect to go back to normal tomorrow (Canivore). Life goes on and one day/evening doesn't change us and our diet.

      Yes, I've had all sorts of foods that I know don't do any favors. But we know it's only a couple of days so it shouldn't take too long to get going again. It's a celebration and a family get together.

    People saying it's not a big deal, don't really understand the addiction of sugar, and it takes couple of sometimes painful days to get back into the groove. I work at a supermarket and there's cakes and candies in the break room quite often. Also I'm eating once a day in the evening, so I just drink water or coffee and read a book next to the cakes at work. Mind over matter. Sometimes it's tough as hell.

    Well, mess- ups happen. My best strategies for surviving formal dinners: always eat before you go, bring a charcuterie plate, and don't be afraid to just not eat. I went to a fancy Italian restaurant and ordered nothing.

    Not a big deal. I ate with family and had sweet potato pie, potato salad, and two cookies. It would hurt mom’s feelings if I didn’t eat her food. Eating junk food a few times a year won’t kill you. Gotta live a little.

    This is why I like more casual pot lucks. Everyone can bring a dish to share with others while also accommodating their own diet. I can’t wait for the holidays to be over. I’m beginning to feel ill (not kidding) and it’s my own fault: Nobody has held a gun to my head to eat carbs. They’re just everywhere you look. I’m going to have to go into hibernation/self imposed rehab from carbs for a while.

    For anyone in this situation. Don't get too wound up about it. I've lost 100lbs since eating mainly carnivore. Sometimes when your out with family and friends, in some situations it is easier just eating what others eat. Enjoy the meal and it will pass and within a few hours if you are aware of what you're doing you'll be back on track again.

      Problem is this can be like ex alcoholic starting to drink again. For most of us, ex carbholics, it is about addiction. I will always bring with me foods I can eat or I will just skip eating. Simple as that. Would never risk relapse again, it is not worth it.

    • @simongregson8548
      @simongregson8548 5 місяців тому +1

      I agree, however I don’t want to go back to 270. I don’t class myself as an addict. Weight just happened over the years and like many people due to keto/carnivore I know what to do to reverse any weight gain. Plus exercise and 10k steps most days makes a big difference.

    • @Jaylwoodworth
      @Jaylwoodworth  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, this is the fine line I talked about in the video. Food is necessary, and there may be times where we can’t avoid a slip. But we have to be so careful not to get sucked into the high-carb lifestyle again. That food is all around us, and it’s so easy to start making excuses. And end up gaining 70 lbs again….

  • @catpatrick3838

    Bacon wrapped meatballs stuffed with cheese are my go-to holiday party contribution. Easy to make, almost 100% carnivore (too much cheese can be tricky on carnivore), and two pretty much fills you up. These aren't appetizer size meatballs, they aren't entree size either, kinda in between so they can go either way. It is so easy to get off track during the holidays. Doesn't take long to get back in the groove. A carb "hangover" is the worst. Hydrate, fast and stick to carnivore and it'll pass.

    • @Jaylwoodworth
      @Jaylwoodworth  5 місяців тому +2

      @@Jaylwoodworth Forgot to add Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Holidays! Yeah, sugar or pasta are a sure bet to give you that hungover feeling when you've been low or zero carb for a while. When that was our standard diet we didn't even realize how bad we felt because it was "normal". You got the double whammy, all after four months of pretty much zero carb🙄. I'd have probably been in a coma 😂.

    I'm sorry you had this bad experience, Jay. You did the right thing by going into mindfulness mode so you could be aware of the impact of eating some of this non-carnivore fare. Give yourself credit for not avoiding the cookies and other sweets.
    It's for situations like this that I have a "work-a-menu" kit in which I pack some pre-cooked beef, but-up bacon, or chicken that I can eat. I have a small backpack that I use for my kit, and fortunately, no one has teased me or questioned me. If I am asked, I simply say "I have some dietary restrictions, and as delicious as everything you've cooked is, I must follow these restrictions. I love being with you all, though."
    The holidays are especially challenging for us Carnivores, and for anyone who falls off the rails -- don't beat yourself up...MEAT yourself up!

    I knew this would happen to me so I avoided the lasagna LOL I actually brought my own carnivore food and ate one serving of sausage that my son made. But I went thru a similar situation as you during Thanksgiving and I knew I was going to eat everything in front of me and I did and when I got back home I went right back to my diet and for a week to a week and a half I paid the price of Thanksgiving and swore I'd never do it again .

      I have my commitments regarding this diet. Expecting host to cook to accommodate my diet is rude. I’ll bring my own food next time, or if that feels uncomfortable, I’ll decline the invitation. But this is for the six months that I’ve made the commitment. Going forward from that I agree that we need some flexibility.

    I had to cancel my 21 day silent meditation retreat in Nainital, India due to unforeseen expenses caused by a family member. I'm feeling like my travels are a thing of the past! Sad. Perhaps we would've met in India?!! It's not commonplace for a man to be interested in those kinds of things.

      I certainly will. The retreat I'm going to will be in an area with a lot of Tibetan Buddhists, and many of them eat meat. Tibet is mostly higher than 10,000 feet, so vegetarianism never really got a foodhold there as it's too cold to grow most crops. But the other parts of India i'm going to will present much more of a challenge.
