I finally did it! On Friday 28th February 2020, the first successful online gameplay test with more than 12 players in a single Mario Kart Wii race took place. This is something I've been working on for many, many months as the obvious expansion to the 24 player mod. This video shows the first attempt to actually play the game with more than 12 players online, and the surprising result that followed!

Despite how successful these tests seemed to go, we did discover some problems after the fact; namely that the game disconnects if we tried to put more than 18 players in a room at once (it's meant to go up to 24 players, much like the offline mod). I will be actively working on fixing that, and you bet I'll put out a full video of it once I've gotten it working properly!
The 24 player mode, including the online functionality, is now available to my Twitch subscribers in its current beta form. It seems to work pretty well, with the exception of the 18 console max limit online! If anyone is interested in getting involved with playing the 24 player mode sub beta, head on over to / mrbean35000vr and subscribe, and you can get a special access code to download the 24 player mode! 24 player mode will be released to the general public later down the line, but there's still a reasonable amount of work I need to do to it first.
Hope you all enjoy this pretty hype highlights video; can't remember the last time I was this excited about something, and I think my parents were pretty happy too, given they stayed up beyond midnight continuing to help test it. They're bricks :P

@@MrBean35000vr I may have the answer. Since this is an online race, the game has to load more files. You are also using frame - skip and since you are the host, that may cause crashing or lag... What I mean by more files is there is a table in the disc that cannot be loaded anymore due to WiFi being shutdown. The Table holds Item Chances, since in the old days of WiFi, in online, Items had more or less of a chance of being pulled than in offline... I think the Wimmfi team may have just cloned the item distribution for offline and slapped it into Online, so the file can't be found anymore either (theroecticly It might be able to but, I don't know what it would be called.) This and frame skip is using load files... so technically speaking, if this is true, the max players would be 27, since 30 is the max and you also have to load the track. The file might be near the offline table but IDK.. If you can't find it, best of luck finding the reason man! Keep up the good work!
@@Yoshily the online item tables are used for wiimfi lobbies - there's a few examples of this you can look up if youre interested.
This is absolutely incredible just how much Mario Kart Wii has been broken! First, there was Mushroom Peaks (the first groundbreaking custom track) and now, there are 17 human players playing against each other online on console. Thank you Bean and Chadderz for everything you have done for this community, it has made Mario Kart Wii so close to being perfect due to having custom tracks, 200cc, item rain and 24 players at once to play against :D
Mr. Bean, you are a genius! I am 20 years old and have been a fan of yours for 10 years; and it is amazing to see how far you've come with programming. The first Nintendo game I grew up with was Mario Kart Wii. Even now, I still go back and marvel at this gem of a racing game. In the past 10 years I've kept up with the Mario Kart Wii community on UA-cam, from creating custom tracks to different game modes, I am honestly blown away by your progress, and I hope to see more of this in the future! I know that it takes a very long time to do all of this, but I will patiently wait for your next advancement!

Bean, in the 11 years I’ve been following your work on this game, I have never heard you this hyped about anything. The sheer amount of work you put into this 24 player mod deserves all the praise and respect I can offer. I hope you realise just how much you are appreciated in this community, even if you don’t always hear it. Hopefully the bugs you identified after this race aren’t too hard to fix, I can’t wait to play it!
