How To...Make a Turk's Head Woggle or Neckerchief Slide
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 гру 2011
- I have been making Turk's Head woggles or neckerchief slides this week at a scout group, so I thought I would create this how-to guide to making one.
There are several different ways to make one, and several different variants of a Turk's Head, but this is the one I learned when I was a scout, so this is the method I am demonstrating. I hope you can follow it clearly!
The main use of these will be in a scouting or guiding context, but I'm sure there are other potential uses.

Now I am a pro and this is by far the very best tutorial so far especially after seeing many idiots overcomplicating this simple and beautiful rope job along with their repetitive bullshit talking and stupid music. People should thank this young gentleman.
When I was a little boy my dad sailed us in the Mediterranean for days and with fair weather the only occupation we had was learning nice knots with him. Thank you for the great video. Knot turned out great the very first time.
As most others have said, your video has been the easiest to learn the turks head knot. Thank you for taking the time to make it and explain what you are doing.
Thank you for taking each cord lap at a good pace and explaining this knot step by step. This is the easiest process I've seen and yes I did it first time 👍
Yes! I did it! You are amazing! Thank you so much for actually explaining step by step without going off about leads and bights and doing your own thing leaving the rest of us to catch up.
This was the clearest video that I have seen describing the tying of a Turk's Head. Great job
Thank you so much!
I am a scout and I found this very useful although I haven't finished doing it yet, I will carry on watching this until I get the hang of this, I found this very useful because Knots aren't my strong point
Keep doing tutorials on knots and other things =D
Thanks, man! I must have watched a dozen tutorial videos about this knot but yours was the one that really helped me to do it. Great job!
Great, very well explained,I have been waiting years for this my dad made one for me when I was in the scouts.
I just could not remember how to do it,thanks for refreshing my memory.
Thanks again
I've watched other videos but yours worked the first time because you showed all views and you were very easy to follow.
Thank You!
After viewing countless videos an written instructions, this was the only one that was clear! Woggles successfully made. :) THANK YOU!
Great tutorial. I'm running a woggle making base for 500 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts next Saturday, and you've made me feel a lot more confident!
just found your video instruction, and like a couple others I would like to thank you for the very clear, simple.concise instruction,i am finally able to grasp the concept,so Thank You.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video!! I have spent HOURS today trying (and failing) to do this STUPID fancy work for someone’s going away gift and have watched countless tutorials and just wasn’t getting it. This one has been the most helpful and the paddle is now complete so thank you sosososososo much for uploading this 😭
I am a Scout leader headed for a memorial day event and couldn't find my slide. I hadn't made a woggle in years and this video is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you!
Thank you for a very clear instruction on this knot, which is very intriguing. Now I have to fit it into my project, which means practice, practice, and practice a lot more. You did a wonderful job and your video showed each step very well. I'll be watching it over and over until I get this right.
Quote of the video: "If you have smaller hands, you may need to use three fingers". Top drawer
I'm in the 1st Wilmslow Scout Group, but the neckerchief I was wearing at the end is my Cheshire Scout Network necker.
Out of all of the videos I found on this knot, yours was the easiest to follow
Your method is so much simpler to understand than how it was taught at Wood Badge. Well done. Thank you.
I have tried many times before watching this video, after 3 years i have successfully done it ! Thank you brother.
Excellent instructions! Thank you for simplifying this knot!
One of the best methods I've found! Quite clear. Thanks.
Very simple directions in your video ,awesome. I am going to pass it on to my scout troop, good job and thanks for sharing!
I've looked at alot of other tutoials for turks heads and this one was the easiest to follow. thank you.
Thank you! This is an excellent tutorial. Very clearly explained and demonstrated.
Thanks for spending time to do and post this video. I found it helpful and clear!
You do an awesome job teaching and explaining this knot. Thank you for your patient video.
best video I've found. been trying to make this knot for a long time thank you
Way easier way to do the turks head than the other videos I've watched. Thank you.
I reckon it might be possible, but generally, the turks head would be wider than a coin - and the coin might get in the way of you tying it. You could add the coin after you've finished - and secure it in place with glue, or by melting the nylon onto it perhaps?
Great video and and excellent explanation. I have made a number of how to videos and I appreciate someone who is good at it.
Thank you!. I've had a brain block for days and your video made it clear.. Awesome..
he makes it easy to learn this! Thank you so much!!! My Boy Scouts will love this!!
Thanks for the tutorial, it was really easy to follow
This video has been extremely helpful thank you
I am working on my Wood Badge ticket - and was worried that I would not be able to make a woggle by myself. Thank you for a great video!
Awesome video, you explained it very well. Thanks
A VERY clear demonstartion on how to make a woggle. Very good
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I did a great slide for a neckerchief
Great! With cub scouts, you'll probably need quite a bit of patience! There will probably be some who can do it all with only a bit of help, whilst others will get stuck on the very first stage. Probably useful to get the cubs into small croups - e.g. in their sixes - and make sure everyone gets to the same stage before moving on to the next. Be prepared for the one or two who will manage to completely unravel theirs and random points during the demonstration! Hope it goes well!
This was very helpful. I have lost my slide a couple weeks ago and could not find it. Thank you, this was very informative.
Easy Peasy. Thanks mate! This will be a project for my son's cub scout den.
Thanks mate ... I thought it was so difficult but because of your help its easier now
great demonstration, totally help me prepare for wood badge.
hey i am still having trouble doing the woggle. Can you help me?
Excellent explanation, I appreciate that very much. many blessings. my grandson who is autistic did not get upset, which if he does not understand the directions he does, so many Kudos you did not get him frustrated. hugs lad
Cat Owens
Excellent video. Very clear. Thank you!
Excellent video. Probably the best I've found for this knot.
I can't promise to do it straight away, but if you give me some time I'll try and come up with a multi-coloured turk's head tutorial.
where did you got your neckerchief from?
Thanks, this helped me. Have struggled learning this knot
Excellent tutorial! Slow, detailed steps so you can follow along during the beginning part before you repeat. Thank you!
Thank you for this very easy to follow video!
Thought.. if you do this with even smaller thread and do it around a plastic straw, it would make a cool bead for macrame or whatever you wanted to string it to... like fobs, lanyards or even funky necklaces and bracelets. I am making a woven divider for my kitchen/dining area, I think I will use this tutorial for decorative beads. Thanks again!
Thank you very much. I will be sure to share this with my troop.
an excellent clear demo and explanation. thanks
That necker is rolled really neatly
the very best of all videos i've seen trying to understand the knot. THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Thanks I made a bright green one using paracord and it turned out fab
This is really helpful, thank you!!
easiest to follow of all the video's i've watched. THANKS!!!
You have made it look easy, not its not, many thanks, I will find the time today to have another go.
Nice work - wish I'd found this video earlier. Thanks for sharing ✌️😋👍
very noce for the neckerchief nice simple tutorial did it in first try thanks
Great Video! Very easy to follow. Got the first time. Thanks.
The best tutorial I've come across. Many thanks.
Thanks for a great tutorial! Easy to follow and thanks for going slow and explaining every part. Need to make 10 for our investiture this Sunday, 4 done only 6 to go!
I guess that would probably work, yes. If you've got a thin thread, you might want to use a needle or similar to thread it as it might get quite fiddly.
Thanks, nice and clear instructions.
Glad I could help!
This is awesome! I can understand it!
Thank you so much I have been trying to Tye this for some time but all the other vids are not very clear. After watching your vid twice I did it . Thanks again
Muito bom seu trabalho
You are a very good teacher, thank you.
Very helpful. Thank you very much.

Thank so much . I will help me a lot if you will do the gaucho knot . I have seen storm drain but he does not explain anything . Thanks again
lifesaver ! i have parade tomorrow and almost didn't have a woggle - thank you :)
Wonderful tutorial.

I knew I recognised it from somewhere. I'm part of Altrincham network, I think I saw someone from the cheshire unit on jamboree with one too
Thank you so much! my first language is spanish and I understood this video better than the ones I watched on spanish
Ledge! I learnt to do this at Axe Jam in about 1992/1993 ish.
Wow that was super easy thanks man!
Muito bem explicado !! Sou do Brazil e vou tentar fazer. Qual o tamanho da corda que você usou??
Cerca de 1.2m x 3mm
Thanks. Is this a decorative type knot? What can it be used for?
Mainly used for holding scout neckerchiefs together. But you could use it for anything similar.
desde Argentina exelente forma de explicarlo y hacerlo los otros jamas los entendi, muchas gracias, saludos desde Buenos Aires-Argentina, Monica
Thanks, great video !
What did you call your stove at 7:25?
A hob: it's a British word to refer to the flat-top part of the cooker, where you might find gas rings or hot-plates etc.
very helpful
Thanks, You really helped me out
Cant we use wire instead?
Escoteiro?
