  • Knot tying video tutorial. Learn how to make a three lead five bight Turk's head woggle with paracord. Easy step by step instructions in this simple guide.
    The Turk's head was originally given its name for its resemblance to a Turk's turban. It is actually the name for a group of knots rather than just a single knot. They are normally defined by the number of leads and bights. The lead is the number of unique circuits made around the cylinder while the bights are the arcs formed at the side of the knot as the cord changes direction.

    I am so thrilled with the way you show and explain this and have come back to it time and time again. A group of us here in Norway took a course on leather braiding on hiking sticks and I could not get this into my head until I saw your video. Thank you SO MUCH! I use it again and again, each time we have been out and harvested more sticks, which become treasured gifts.

    at 4:19 you had a single line over original lead, cut back at 4:20 and there were two, how do you get there when we are following original lead? did you correct something during cut scene?

    What type of glue do you use?

    could you to a 3 x 6 or 3x7 if you made the starting loop big enough?

      Not quite. For a three lead Turk's Head multiples of three bights are impossible. ie you can't make a 3x6, 3x9, 3x12 etc. To extend the Turk's head the number of bights depends on the starting knot. Hard to explain in comments. I will make a video on how to extend the 3 lead TH and get it up within a week.

    just off the top of my head, could you make one of these with embroidery floss or other finer material than paracord - as a ring?

    Is it a ring, ? It looks really big for a ring though !

    • @WhyKnot
      @WhyKnot  7 років тому

      You are right it is too big to be a ring. Its called a woggle. Its used to hold a neckerchief in place. If you used micro cord or leather you could easily make a ring out of it though.

    Is the only way to finish a Turks head woggle by using glue or melting the para cord? It feels unsatisfactory to me. How were old fashioned turks head knots finished in natural fibre. I've been trawling through the youtube tutorials on making the knot and they all seem to finish it with glue or heat. Is there another more natural/pure way?
