- In this episode of Dining on a Dime, host Lucas Peterson heads to Hi-BBQ, food truck on top of a remote wind farm in Kahuku, Hawaii. This couple-owned truck is serves up brisket, pulled pork, and smoked pineapple sausage, and free beer. It also comes with quite the view.

I dig how Lucas focuses on describing the food and not saying, "Wow! This is amazing." like every other foodie. Even if it is or isn't. He kind of paints a picture of the food and it slightly makes me feel like I can taste it from home. I think a lot of people are misunderstanding his descriptions as if he doesn't like it at all. Has anyone tried explaining a food they've eaten without repeating words over and over. So he takes a second to put together his sentences in order to give us a show that we enjoy watching and isn't repetitive over the past whatever amount of seasons.
David Nguyen on point. that's why Lucas is my fav food host/critic. no over the top pseudo orgasmic mouth open idiotic facial expressions...just descriptive analysis of the food in a laid back matter. Lucas rocks...and he prob got an eyefull when he was ordering...lol

It's a doomed task trying to describe food, hence most food shows mainly covering the history, story, location - and then just saying "the food is great"
I love Lucas for actually managing to (or at least taking a running jump at doing so) describe it, and then add his personal thoughts.

Pretty awful looking BBQ all around. Brisket wasn't even slightly trimmed. The pulled pork was basically mush. Beans look like they came out of a can.
Travel to Hawaii to make a show about Mainland style southern BBQ? come on now...

Yep been disappointment so far with his visit to Hawaii, he's been to places that aren't so great, and there so many better spot on the island that serve better food. Also there is another bbq place that serves Texas style bbq and so much better then that place.
So far only one of the places he been to has been cheap eats, the others not so cheap.

That being said, I can understand the criticism. I generally enjoy all episodes of Dining on a Dime, but this episode maybe wasn't their best.
Even Lucas didn't seem like he was super into the food. Ah well, they can't all be homeruns.

He's already had authentic Hawaiian food and then had to downgrade (must be so sad). That's how I feel going into overrated places where the avg. customer just likes anything with salt and pepper "and maybe some paprika too."

Yep that from Costco taste pretty good, but shameful, I'm not a expert at bbq, but I could make some better food in the oven. Also there is a better place on the north shore, that serves dat kind bbq, if you know, you know just saying.

So I'm raised and still live in Kahuku I can look out of my window and literally see this place from my house... this entire time I never knew people could go up this hill I should check it out sometime.

0:45 seconds the map is marked as "Kahuku" but the location of the red star is far off. The star looks like its in the Waimea area hahaha Kahuku is literally the very tip northern tip.
I've tried their BBQ before and it's the best I've had! Now I want to go to Oahu again!!

That brisket did not look like it was properly made. Also, they just gave him a big hunk of brisket you're supposed to slice it relatively thin.

I just had the brisket there on vacation.... best I have ever had. At $15 you can't complain about price, it would cost at least that here on the mainland and it was wayyyyyy better. Check this place out if your on Oahu!!!!

I love this show, but these two were the most unlikable people I have seen. Just for that reason I'd pass on the food.
The cameraman blamed the shaky cam on the wind but I think the cameraman was only using one hand ;) while taping the braless girl.......

I love BBQ but I don't know how people just slop down brisket with layers of fat and slimy gristle hanging off it. I can only eat the meat the fat literally makes me gag the second I feel it or bite it.

Honestly, the food didn’t look all that impressive. The brisket wasn’t even trimmed and there was not much of a smoke ring on anything. Lucas didn’t seem too blown away either. Looked like he was doing his best to be diplomatic about it.
