    Hi guys, thanks for the video and the memories! I sailed there on Gaucho before it was a park I think it was 1972. We hiked all around the island (there were no restrictions) and found a cave that someone had been living in on the north side. There also was a commemorative place for the “discovery” of California... Pre acknowledgment of the first people that had lived there. The Gaucho was headed down to Argentina and it be 2 years before I would crew on her again.
    Today my boat is in Mazatlan and I hope to meet up with you guys on your second trip down to the SOC.

      Sounds like a very cool trip - did you sail all the way to Argentina on her?

    I’ve been to San Miguel. So beautiful. I didn’t know that there were that many pinnipeds out there.

    Are you guys still in the Channel Islands area? My son and I are headed out there from our slip in Oxnard from 1 through 8 March. We have a 47' catamaran with mast foils named Escape and would love to meet you. We've been following your adventures for a long time and we've said in a lot of the same places. We had our boat built in Valdivia, Chile and sailed it from there to the Galapagos, then to Baja where we sailed around the Sea of Cortez for a year and then up here to the Channel Islands. We've been to most of the nooks and crannies of the Channel Islands and would like to compare notes. We've also just recently switched over from using Expedition to OpenPlotter for our navigation system and would like to discuss that with you.

      Oh wow! That sounds like a very cool boat, and we have indeed sailed many of the same places! Sadly, we are not in the Channel Islands anymore... Do you have a picture of you boat on a blog/website? We’d love to see it!

      @@AdventureAdriftSailing Yes. I'm really sorry I missed you. I do have a blog site at www.escapeexpeditions.blogspot.com. I have several blogs on there about the boat being built in Chile, several of the sail from Chile up to the Galapagos and on to LaPaz, several in the sea of cortez, and several in the Channel Islands. Please keep in touch and if you ever get up this way again please contact me and I'll take you on a sail on my boat.

    I hope your shakedown cruise is going well and you are not finding too many expensive things that need need major work or outright replacing.
    We are in the middle of an Ozefridge icebox to refrigerator conversion ourselves. Boat work never ends. It is eight million times harder to do work on a boat you are living on, as I am sure you already know.

      So true that the work never ends! We have been working on some holding tank issues (not bad, but no fun!), water pump, and thinking about improving solar. Hope your project is going well - yes, living aboard while working is tough!

    I've always thought "seal" is just a short name for "sea lion" (ie. "sea" + "l" from lion). I know there are different species, but I didn't realise seals are different from sea lions.

    • @AdventureAdriftSailing
      @AdventureAdriftSailing  3 роки тому

      We still are learning how to tell them apart too - sea lions can walk more easily on land by rotating their hind flippers, and also have ear flaps!

    I was reflecting on your first go with the islands and wonder if the vegetation seemed the same as before. On the little screen it looked rather blasted...

    • @AdventureAdriftSailing
      @AdventureAdriftSailing  3 роки тому +1

      I'd say it was pretty similar, yes... The strange/dead-looking plants actually come to life and bloom once a year. At the research station they did have some native trees they were trying to give a start on the island again - much of the native vegetation was decimated by the sheep farming in the 1800/1900s.

      @@AdventureAdriftSailing thanks for that...and now, fun with seals underwater?

    Typical rude Californian Beach Scene
    How is the new Battleship?
    I like the decks and general layout.

    • @AdventureAdriftSailing
      @AdventureAdriftSailing  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, a typical crowded CA beach... just not crowded with people! The boat is serving us well - of course some little tweaks and things here and there, but we are happy with her! :)
