When you get older, listen to Find The River. It's hard to believe young people could have so much compassion for us old people and do a song that comforts us.
I've been dealing with depression and anxiety for about 20 yrs., when I was down, I would listen to this song and oddly enough it helped me, it reminded me there were many people who felt like I did. Some of us have no one to talk to about how we feel. Glad you were recommended this, good review.
Sometimes all I had was a school counselor. Anyone who would listen was an invaluable resource. Don't let it isolate you. Help is out there. Know you are lovable and loved ❤️❤️
Every time I hear this song I think of all the people who are ready to give up just as I was some years ago. It breaks my heart. With time and luck things have mellowed out for me, and I have learned how to never go into the "pit" again. I wish you peace - and even joy. Be well.
A quite interresting fact: In that same year (1993) the Hollywood Movie "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas was released, with a traffic jam as the start of the main character loosing his mind. The scenes of people stuck in their cars were filmed in a very similar way. I don't know who took inspiration from who, but there was definitely some influence...
90's alt-rock just hits different, so deep and personal. Candlebox 'Far Behind'...lead singer lost his friend to drugs...the angst and anger of not seeing it or doing anything. Chicks went deep too Joan Osborne "What If God Was One Of Us".
when you hear the song without the video is already powerfully, the voice of Michael, show raw emotion. but with the video the impact is bigger. Love your reaction
REM has such a gift for beautiful emotional songwriting. Haunting melodies. I've been a fan since the 80s and I'm partial to their older stuff. I love Fall on Me, Wendell Gee, Begin the Begin, So. Central Rain.
Just came from your look at 'The Living Years'. Yikes, some heavy lyrics going down. This is an interesting video as is their 'Losing My Religion'. I hope you have watched Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush singing 'Don't Give Up'. There is some fine music from the '70s and '80s hitting the feels. This song is said to have saved many lives. What more can an artist ask?
One of my all time favourites! Have regularly listened to this over the years and it never fails to bring a tear to my eyes. So much meaning and so powerful! Love your very raw and honest reactions to every song you hear
Athens, GA. I was at school there when they got together in 81. They used to play for free in Legion Field (sometimes $2 at the Forty Watt Club). Michael Stipe lived up the street from us... B52's were also from Athens... Love Shack and Deadbeat Club were songs specifically about our neighborhood. It was a great time to be a college kid who liked music :)
I was at Clemson in 83 and I went to one show at Legion Field. I think around the Reckoning release. Definitely a great time for Southern college music scene.
This came out when I was in high school and struggling with anxiety and this song just spoke to me. It still does. So powerful. Thanks for the reaction.
So glad I got to see this band live. One of the best bands ever! R.E.M. stands for Rapid Eye Movement which happens in our deepest sleep. Cheers from The Netherlands.
REM are a phenomenal band and wrote songs in the 80s that are still so relevant today. Losing My Religion is probably their greatest hit (has 1 billion views) . To understand the lyrics you have to know that 'losing my religion' is slang for 'losing my temper'. Definitely react to it Nick.
R.E.M. stands for Rapid Eye Movment, the stage of dream sleep where the eyes roll bavk and forth under the eyelids. This is a vast rabbit hole I'd strongly go down through. Id recommend "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" as your next reaction to them.
A lot of early 90’s songs are deep and sing about emotions such as depression, anxiety, sadness… It was a beautiful time of authentic expression and emotions that weren’t really talked about other then the music. To me, who’s always had anxiety, I felt heard and seen to express my anxiety. As this song says “Your not alone.” Please react to more ‘90s songs. Especially the early ‘90s. Thank you
R.E.M. is from Athens, GA. Michael Stipe said he wrote this song with teens in mind because their suicide rate was so high. It's sure gotten me through some tough times. R.E.M. made 15 studio albums, each song and each album are different. They didn't want to sound like whatever they did previously. R.E.M. said they opened up the dictionary, and R.E.M. was selected at random
I didn't realize you have a mental health background. You're so right that we suffer - mostly in silence. And that sad part is, we all understand it, yet we don't reach out a hand to one another. Why is that?
Ive been looking but cant find if youve done rem's Losing My Religion. Just thought id mention that LMR is a Southern slang phrase for losing your temper.
HEY NICK! Can you please do LONG NIGHTS BY EDDIE VEDDER!?!?!❤ From the movie Into the Wild. It is powerful and moving. Vedder does all the songs in that movie but this one is my favorite. 😊
Great song I always tear up on this one, I don't know if you take requests but try Wicked Game by Chris Issac and maybe some Janis Joplin if you haven't yet.
REM is rapid eye movement...whe we are at the deepest part of our sleep cycle and most likely to dream....its literally when you can see a person's eyelids move. There's a sadness that this song is just as relevant now as it was when it was written..maybe we need to finally figure out how to move forward
@@nickforell1 others beat me to it haha, Night Swimming is another great one. I listened to these in the 90's and haven't really dissected the lyrics so it's like listening for the first time when y'all do
Be kind; for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. ~ Plato
I'm sure this song has saved many lives, beautiful
What a gift to humanity. Michael Stipe is a very kind genius.
1993, the year I came out, I had so many deep emotions going through my head , I don't know how many times I cried to this song.
I hope you are doing well. This song helps tears come out in a healing way ... Eventually . Keep strong sir....
This was a number one in the UK. Michael was ahead of his time. A beautiful thought provoking song/message❤
When you get older, listen to Find The River. It's hard to believe young people could have so much compassion for us old people and do a song that comforts us.
Life saving song ❤
" Loosing My Religion " was another huge hit for R.E.M.
It has 1 billion views
Thank you, Nick, for a heartfelt reaction to one of my favourite REM songs. This song will remain current for all times…❤
Watching reaction videos of this song has actually saved my life tonight, when I was ready to let go.
There was a Priest who sang this on Britain’s Got Talent in 2018. He did a very decent job. I believe his name was Ray Kelly.
Yeah, he`s Irish.
This song save my life. Thanks for the reaction!

Michael Stipe has haughting voice
Such a beautiful and haunting song!❤❤😢😢 They have many great songs!!❤❤❤
Such a beautiful reaction to such a beautiful song. Thanks Nick ✌🏻
As you know about this subject it was moving seeing your raw emotion. Just think how many people you have helped.❤
This song resonates with so many and has saved many lives.
REM stands for rapid eye movement - a sleep phase.
Yep! Just wasn’t sure if it was the same for the band name
90's alt-rock just hits different, so deep and personal. Candlebox 'Far Behind'...lead singer lost his friend to drugs...the angst and anger of not seeing it or doing anything. Chicks went deep too Joan Osborne "What If God Was One Of Us".

REM is from Athens GA not Atlanta. I saw them in a local college bar in 91. They were just a local band. They were amazing even back then.
Surely you meant 1981? Cuz in 1991 they were absolutely huge and were only doing promo gigs for the early 90s
No they came back a number of times. Played under the name "Wheel of Iron Cheese" once at the 40 Watt lol

I have loved this song for dècades. ❤

They didn't name the group for that specifically, though. I think they just wanted something short and saw it in a dictionary, maybe?

Mike wrote this song in response to his close friend committing suicide....I think it was River Phoenix.
Great reaction. Thank you Nick.

Epic song. ❤❤❤
Rapid Eye Movement! 😊
Their song "Orange Crush" is a fantastic song. REM has a very deep catalog of music
That was a real reaction, thank you. One of my favorite bands.
Glad you enjoyed!
I didn't realize you have a mental health background. You're so right that we suffer - mostly in silence. And that sad part is, we all understand it, yet we don't reach out a hand to one another. Why is that?
try REM "shiny happy people"
Beautiful song.great reaction
R.E.M. rapid eye movement
❤❤❤❤❤
Your a beautiful person❤
Automatic for the people is a solid album
If you are doing sad songs, try I'll Be There by Escape Club. I have yet to see any reactors brave enough to tackle that song.
You have the right state :) They are from Athens.
Ive been looking but cant find if youve done rem's Losing My Religion. Just thought id mention that LMR is a Southern slang phrase for losing your temper.
This was my first REM video!
Especially men keep things inside way too much, as basically we've been taught for decades crying is weakness.
Try and find the duet between Pink and Kelly Clarkson .. life changing x
Don’t give up by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.
if you want this song to shock you to the core check out "20 years of TAC advertising, Everybody Hurts"
HEY NICK! Can you please do LONG NIGHTS BY EDDIE VEDDER!?!?!❤ From the movie Into the Wild. It is powerful and moving. Vedder does all the songs in that movie but this one is my favorite. 😊

I titally agree with you. We live in dark times......
Rapid Eye Movement....... REM
Thank you! I know REM stands for that but wasn’t sure the band was meant to be the same!
Rapid Eye Movement
Thank you!

Anti suicide song!
