If you have the knowledge and understand how to read blueprints and understand that 80% lowers are a project and you will be spending hours machining and fitting. 80% are a fun hobby and a constitutional right to do so. You make some good points sir and I enjoyed your video.
First of all let me thank you for your service. Personally I like the Daytona Tactical 80% receiver offerings. You can get them as stand alone lowers or as a set with the upper receiver. Most of what they sell are constructed of 7075 T6 aluminum and are cerakoted with the engraved safety markings. Even the ones with the integrated trigger guards are constructed of 7075-T6 aluminum. That's hard to find on forged lowers as integrated trigger guards are typical of billet lowers. I like the fact that they look somewhat like billet lowers but either they're forged or they're billet lowers constructed of 7075 T6 aluminum. Either way, they are my favorite. By the way, the cerakote works well for me as I like a mixture of O.D.G and black or F.D.E. or all three to kind of break the outline of the gun some. Now if I wanted the upper and lower receivers to match, I'd just buy the set, but like I said, I like to break up the outline some, plus I just like the look. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video and you have gained one more sub. Keep up the good work.
@@PhDarien No thanks needed. I'm thinking about trying my hand at rattle canning one of my guns with some kind of foliage pattern. That is, if I can gather up the courage to do so. 😁
I sure as heck did. I had many other sets of them as well and this is one I still have. People thought prices wouldn’t go up or they wouldn’t come under attack they way they are.
Good information in this video. I didn't know about the match up on the receiver sets and how they may not align 100%. Good point on the immigrant or tourist obtaining a firearm. I remember KB32 did a video explaining immigrants obtaining firearms illegally. He said most of the firearms, immigrants obtain, are stolen and trafficked back to the country of origin, he was mostly talking about Mexico. But now firearms can easily be 3D printed and homemade like they did back in 1776. In general, firearms are not hard to make at home, with a lathe, mill and some skill. Good luck and God Bless you PhDarien on your transition to your new career.
Thank you. I cannot stand an unmatched receiver set. It just doesn’t look like something I’d end up paying big coin for. I know that we can basically print anything these days, but tourists and immigrants obtaining firearms shouldn’t be easy at all.
You were comparing the Daniel defense price to your $65 set. Can you get it for that price? Run a VF2 at work, but I’d like to get a drill press with an x/y vice for the house
You just have to keep looking; but you can find lowers for $30-50 on the internet still. Every now and then there are sets for sale. My set was raw aluminum, because I choose to cerakote them myself. It’s the same exact ones that DD has, but not milled out and laser engraved. Due to NDA’s most companies use parts from the same manufacturer. I have an x/y vice, but never use it. I prefer the 5d tactical jig.
Milspec just means made by the lowest bidder 😂😂😂. But it meets our specific requirements. Like military aluminum (6061). Guess what I work in that material a lot.
Yes I have done an AR-10. Noticing made from steel though and I wouldn’t if I could. Aluminum is very strong and very lightweight. Gun manufacturers cut weight as much as possible. I wouldn’t want a steel receiver set.

Thanks so much. I love breaking the colors up as well.

You got a great deal on the 80% lower and the stripped upper receiver. I wish we could still get them for that price.
I sure as heck did. I had many other sets of them as well and this is one I still have. People thought prices wouldn’t go up or they wouldn’t come under attack they way they are.
@@PhDarien btw I enjoy your channel.
I’m glad. I appreciate you
You're real deal man. I like your style.

What jig is your favorite?
Thank you. I love the 5D tactical jig

@@PhDarien you would still need a x/y or a mill. A 4 axis drill press is still a mill
True, but I’m saying I don’t use my drill press any longer for lowers. I use my router
@@PhDarien i seed some videos with routers. I already have one of them. Haven’t used it much.
@@PhDarien best deal I’m finding is 5d tactical 80 lower only for $79 ish. Have you seen any marched deals on Black Friday?

Do you plan on buying a ghost gunner cnc?
I considered it. I may end up getting a 3D printer instead and do some other things.

Have you ever done an ar10? Have you ever made one from steel? Is the 308 worth making out of aluminum?

@@PhDarien what’s your favorite aluminum alloy? I got mine in 7075. Supposed to handle a lot more pressure than 6160
@romanmetcalf4116 they’re equally good to me. Cost is my concern. I don’t like polymer lowers on AR-type rifles
But what if i like machining lowers
Then keep at it like I do.
People dont understand, milspec doesnt mean its good quality🤷♂️
