It’s definitely not refined nor polished. First time trying to record assembly. I found some of these for my first build and it helped a ton. I’ll post another soon with better angles, tool sizes, and clearer instructions… more to come. Appreciate the feedback!
Next time, if you want to prevent scraping and scratching up the lower while installing the bolt catch roll pin, cover the area to the rear of it with painter's tape. In addition, I use a round toothpick with the sharp tip cut off as a "slave pin" to hold the bolt catch in place as I drive in the roll pin . . . which drives the toothpick out the other side as the roll pin displaces it. Eliminates the need for three hands.
Great video. Will definitely help people understand how to put these together. The hammer spring looked to be incorrect though. The legs of the spring when pointing down should be on the flat side of the hammer and the hoop part of the spring should be resting against the hooked side of the hammer.
Really great kit! So far my trigger guard roll pin and my bolt catch roll pin are too large for the holes. It’s a Ruger lower so it’s not a cheap no-name lower. What crap!
Assembling the hammer spring, you showed it one way on the outside of the sickle shape, but when you put it into the receiver it was on the opposite end and inside hammer. I’m confused and stuck
Just a couple of tips. When installing the bolt catch, put the spring in first and then the little tip. The tip should be touching the bolt catch lever, not the spring. Also, use some sort of slave pin (small punch or allen wrench) to hold the bolt catch lever while tapping in the roll pin. As you tap in the roll pin it will push out the slave pin. I always use some wide painter's tape along the side of the receiver to prevent marring while driving the roll pin in.
I missed seeing exactly how you got that roll pin in on that bolt catch there🤔 I usually get the pin started first using my roll pin starter punch, drop in my bolt catch assembly then finish driving the pin on with a flat punch. Investing in the proper tools goes a long way when assembling anything.
I found it was easier to pound the rollpin in to the first part, aligning it with your fingers until its stable/hammered in just before the space for the bolt catch, and then put the bolt catch and finish hammering.
Great no BS build video Sir. Bare bones with no special tools other than the armorers wrench. I am a First time builder with No experience with AR's what so ever and it only took me an hour to do this build and I couldn't be happier. FYI: I used a shish kabob skewer to push threw to hold the detents in place instead of a punch and it was a perfect fit. Thanks again 👍
You point out that there is a large end of the spring when assembling the trigger parts but never show or say which end goes in first. Please add this in comments.
the roll pin for the bolt release was the worst part, it would be nice if htey were already installed and I did notice I got an extra take down spring and detent but no extra buffer detent or spring thats what I lost in my entire build.
"ok this part is difficult, so I'm not going to show you how I did it" tips for your next How To video: break it up into steps, and watch each step of your video to make sure it is passable, before recording the next step
@pistolpete2731 I'm new to the AR platform but I watched a different video and this one seems clunky. I know there are rules to follow and they change depending on the year. I watched one from american viking that was everything i needed to know. I appreciate this guys time and effort I did watch the whole video. Im always looking for new techniques to make things easier for me just my .02
I couldn't get through this once you got to the trigger. your bandage is blocking the shot. not editing out your errors. not holding up the part so we can see our looks like yours does. maybe this video would be useful later on when I get to a different part
Any chance you have a tools list or a recommendation for where to find one? I'm finding all kinds of things online, but nothing that really suits me, a one time assembler and not a solo assembling operation (I.e.- I don't need a rig or jig or mount).
Only the stripped lower receiver is serialized... therefore that's the only item that needs to be sent to an FFL. Parts kit itself, all upper parts, can be sent directly to your home
The stripped lower must go through an FFL and it requires filling out an ATF Form 4473 plus a NICS Background Check. If you want to avoid that, get an 80% lower and mill out the trigger pocket, drill the trigger and hammer pin holes, and the selector lever hole. The 80% lower can be shipped directly to you. No ATF Form 4473 or NICS check. HOWEVER! If someone is a "Prohibited Person" who isn't allowed to own or possess a firearm (most often due to a Felony Conviction), having a stripped lower made from an 80% lower is just as illegal as possessing any other firearm and is worth 10 years in prison plus a $250k fine.
Doing things off camera because you can't do it on camera dodging do any of us ANY GOOD. Your video is supposed to be instructional and you leave part of the instruction out. What good is that?
@@modernblitzkriegdon’t mind him. People always got something to b*tch about. Before I even went to the comments I was thinking nice he’s taking his time. talking slowly and clearly. This video will help me put together my pistol kit. Thank you.
It doesn't need to lock it. The buffer tube is held in place by the castle nut to lock it. It you screw it in too far to the buffer detent pin it won't move freely. The buffer tube simply retains it from coming out.
@gliscameria I thought he did go to notch, even went past it to get the last detent and spring into the rear for the take down pin. Then turned it back to notch. I could be wrong.
constructive feedback - when making an instructional video, DO NOT publish steps that you did incorrectly. You fumble around with the FCG and springs showing the wrong way to do it. You edited the video, but you leave the mistakes in. terrible job
Why does this video exist? Learn how to build a lower first, then build some lowers, then post a video "teaching" others to build lowers. Then you can actually show people how you build the lower, instead of constant errors and editing over the important parts.
If any part of this video helps then why not use it. It’s free. It’s a resource. Not everything needs to be perfect. Perfect is the enemy of good. Go ahead and post your flawless build video and some armors will step up and call you out. Don’t watch if you don’t like. Simple. Bye.
Appreciate you making this video for us newbies that haven’t done this yet.

@@modernblitzkrieg well, I was able to follow this video and build mine successfully. So I think you did well on your first attempt.
Me too...
Anyone on here talking crap about the video…y’all just haters. I finished my first ever build using only this video. It helped me a lot.
This was GREAT! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It helps those with no experience at building in this platform.
Thank you for sharing this video! I was able to complete my build after watching your tutorial.
Glad I could help!

this is a very underrated comment. thank you for this clarification - it was not displayed properly in the video
Very good camera angle! Thanks for the tutorial!
You're welcome!

Good choice!

Looks like that hammer spring was getting you all frustrated 😂😂😂

Use Knipex pliers for the bolt catch pin and the trigger guard. Wrap the jaws with tape first.
Thanks for the quick refresh.
Thank God for this video, Palmetto should pay you for this tutorial. Any idea how much gun shops charge on average for assembly of lowers?
Thanks for making this! Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Awesome video, straight to the point and informative. Got a sub from me. keep it up!
I literally just bought these things and need to build. Will be the first time is there a list of tools and sizes of punches needed somewhere
5th build, 5th time watching. Thanks! :)
Glad you like it!
You point out that there is a large end of the spring when assembling the trigger parts but never show or say which end goes in first. Please add this in comments.
Razor blade trick worked well for me. Didn’t lose any take down pin springs. Thanks
It would be helpful to do everything on camera.
the roll pin for the bolt release was the worst part, it would be nice if htey were already installed and I did notice I got an extra take down spring and detent but no extra buffer detent or spring thats what I lost in my entire build.
You can buy lowers where the bolt release is secured with a screw instead of a roll pin.
Good tutorial 💪
Thanks for the tutorial.
You bet!
1/8" punch
Razore blade
Blue tape
Armorer's wrench
Hammer
Are those the only tools you used for this?

Real Avid has Ar15 Armorer's Master Kit. Also, get the Wheeler AR Trigger Guard Tool as well.
did you have to purchase the stripped lower seperately?
Yes. That has to be shipped to an FFL and a background check and transfer fee paid to dealer
UA-cam removed all my videos like this and demonetized all my videos.

Outstanding
Did you have to have this sent to an ffl from PSA?

A chisel? Or punch
Punch
Now I know how your thumb got sliced up. Using a razor blade to hold the detent. It slipped.
I can see why your thumb is all taped up now😂😂😂 they also make a tool for assembly ing the front pivot pin. Beats using that razor blade😂😂
Doing things off camera because you can't do it on camera dodging do any of us ANY GOOD. Your video is supposed to be instructional and you leave part of the instruction out. What good is that?

At 20:27 you go full bible on this build!
I dont think your buffer detent is right, you need another turn, it's not locking the rotation of the tube eh?
It doesn't need to lock it. The buffer tube is held in place by the castle nut to lock it. It you screw it in too far to the buffer detent pin it won't move freely. The buffer tube simply retains it from coming out.
@@scottnra Then what's the purpose of that pin if it's not to lock the orientation of the tube? What is it there for?
@@gliscameria
It's for the buffer spring. Not the tube. The detent pin keeps the spring in the tube.
@@kyussdemon1 I can get that, but why machine the notch in the tube? One more turn and it puts that pin right in that notch
@gliscameria
I thought he did go to notch, even went past it to get the last detent and spring into the rear for the take down pin. Then turned it back to notch. I could be wrong.
Your camera angles are the best. Sike....
You need to show how to put the gold pin in, not show the outcome
Instead of hammering the pin I used pliers to squeeze it in
Knipex pliers are the best for these.
Wtf, it was like watching a train wreck. I couldn’t stop. Title of video should be, When there is no gunsmith…
