I agree, Thanks so much Brett this is just what I was looking for after spending forever watching other lessons that always miss out 50% of the information. This is absolute gold 👍
Hey, Bret, I am a 68 years old guitar Player from Germany. I learn the electric guitar since 5 years. This lesson ist the most important for me I have ever Seen on UA-cam. Now I understand much more. Thanks very much!!! Christoph
I've been playing guitar for 50 years and you're the first person I've come across that makes sense in the way you explain and demonstrate playing blues. Good job, man.
That was F...ing great. Played along with you for four hours and a bottle of red wine. Four dots on my twelfth fret and I feel great. Thank you. This made so much sense thx legend!!!
I'm been playing lead guitar since 1982 I've been stuck in one style forever. Love what you've done here with this video, I'm going to learn a lot from this. Thank you so much
Such a simple lesson that proves the “KISS” system (Keep It Simple Stupid!). Brilliant in its simplicity! One the best lessons I’ve seen because of the ability to understand it! Thanks Brett!!!!
I've been watching this video off and on for three years. I could watch 100 of these from you, Brett. A master class in soloing over a chord progression.
Thank you so much Brett . This is the right lesson at the right time . Having spent a while learning the Pentatonic scale over the neck and noodling around with it , this will add a lot more focus and emotion into my playing
Your sharing not only what to play but what you're thinking while you play, as well as the relationships between scales and neighboring scales has been very beneficial to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you! My favorite tutorials are the ones where the instructor shares "what's going thru my mind as I play this or that."
You've connected a lot of dots my friend! You can relate and remember what it was like to not have the dots connected. Your emphasis on the things that made you great are the building blocks for us. You're an amazing teacher my friend .
Papa: Dig , I've been doing the exact thing that you are showing but I never put terminology to it. I never knew what to call what I was doing I guess I was playing by feeling and I learn very well by just observing. I love the way you teach. Signed a Detroit ROCKER with 45 yrs playing, thanks again!
After an enormous wasted time figuring out how to make the simple 1st pentatonic actually sound like the blues, the lights suddenly went on. Playing fingerstyle and delta I tried the methods by countless other video lessons on improvisation all to no avail. This lesson changed everything in the FIRST FIVE minutes of the lesson. I have to change things up a little bit for acoustic but the principles are the same. Thank you very much
Awesome! I love how you explain the sound of each chord tone. SO MANY tutorials just play them at light speed and expect you to just "get it", or even worse, memorize the lick like it's a phone number.
Yo Papa, thanks !!! Once again you have proven that you can teach the old dog some very tasty licks. Not to mention licks I can not only "plug and play" but you've given me new ideas to pass onto my students. At 67 and still a working musician and teacher I love this FRESH new guitar you have freely given. God Bless you.
Love these lessons, and, I love the concept of playing the notes of the chord in your solos. Unfortunately, I can't really implement this so well. It requires knowing all the notes on the neck, and, after several years of playing, I still haven't been able to learn all the notes well enough to just jump to them.
Ahhhh this is exactly what I need. Your lessons are paying off BIG TIME because my Father-in-law keeps inviting me back to jam 😜. This vid might only be 27 minutes long but there are hours of practice and fun here. Thanks again Brett!
In less than half an hour, you have taught what many guitar teachers spin out over a life time. Thank you for cutting through the nonsense to reveal the essential.
Thanks Brett, theres plenty of great players on youtube, And YOUR one of Them. I Always learn some great stuff from you, Everytime I see a Brett Papa video on youtube, I think, yes, thats the video I want to see,
Hey. Excellent video. Just wanted to know, when you are targetting those chord tones what do you have in mind? Is it the pentatonic pattern or the triad ( 1-3-5 or 1-b3-5 ) shapes? If its the former, is there an easy way to visualise those notes and if its the latter, is it a prerequisite to know all the triad inversions? Please answer this, i think its self explanatory but i need your confirmation. Plz.
I have been stuck in scales box for years, and sounded like someone playing scales! This video has opened the box for me to sound like music and really has changed my approach to playing. What a great teacher, thank you so much!
Was always that average player but now I could surely say that I'm getting there..Thank you PAPA..Your licks are getting my mojo going..You're awesome..!!
Man! I’ve been grinding scales, pentatonic/arpeggios etc... for 2.5 years, College Instructer & 3 pro musicians! This is my 1st time to be on your site & the 1st time I’ve enjoyed myself & not been stressed on keeping up! My dogs & I thoroughly had a blast & my Wife came in with a big smile & 2 thumbs up! Thanks & Yes I definitely subscribed!
I have been playing guitar most of my life. I can mimic solos to a point but struggled to improvise without sounding like random notes in the pentatonic. The hitting the chord tones concept has given me a new direction of figuring it out. Thanks brother.
Brett, I got to tell you- I've been watching you for awhile now, and not only are you an AWESOME dude for what you DO - but lessons like THIS one here, in particular- something like Soloing chord tones- you know, which most of us should know ALREADY know- But to teach it to people, to reiterate it, to STRENGTHEN it, with examples- Well, you are just..... a MAN among men! 😁😉
brett this is such an amazing way of teaching this...its right where im at as lead player...and you just made it crystal clear to me how to phrase with chord tones....thank you
Thankyou living in South Africa been bumbling for a while you've smacked it outta the park for me Absolutely what I've been looking Can't Thankyou enough luvnlight Brett
Your "focus on chord tones" is making all the time I spent studying the CAGED system so worth it. I've still got a ways to go, but I'm beginning to visualize my soloing sort of the way I would visualize chord changes if I was just playing rhythm. I'm feeling less "stuck in the box". Great stuff! Thanks.
Great lesson Brett. A breakthrough from "Pentatonictis" we beginners suffer. Mainly, by keeping away from vertical scale playing (boring) and using triads logic along the neck. And last but not least, bending to get to the interval we need, thus sounding more bluesy.
Thank you for your clear and easy way to learn these concepts. I have struggled with this and you have helped me progress so much. My playing is much improved just from this.
Just a totally awesome lesson and a breakthrough moment for me. It’s great to have some context for licks and a pathway to follow to sound more melodic and break out of that pentatonic rut. Thank you so much.
More gold from Brett. You're such a good teacher mate. If you want to make some serious gains, join his membership site. His courses are so well structured and so much fun - I've made more progress in the past 4 months than I had in 20 years...honestly, I'm not joking. Namaste x

Thanks to you, I finally understand how to incorporate the minor pentatonic scales across chords You are the first to explain it clearly and explain how they all relate. Looking forward to signing up for your other lessons.THANK YOU!
Papastache always has such great lessons. It amazes me how rare it is to see lessons on how to apply the scales knowledge to a real life context. Thanks dude you are a legend.
Thanks for taking time out in your life to show me this. It really opened up my mind. I play by ear, chords mostly. I can play some riffs but I don’t even know what note I’m playing. Thank you I’m going to take your video and practice
Light bulbs going off everywhere, thanks Brett great, great stuff. Was playing around with Tom Petty's " Breakdown" and it is a perfect example of hitting those notes in the chord. Cheers !
Hi Brett! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with lovers of good music, and congratulations for the simple and objective way in which you explain the subject. I love Blues and your guitar lesson will help me a lot. See you around...
Very professional and patient for beginners to see the details of what you are doing. Awesome teaching skills.
Thanks so much!
At last someone who actually shows you and explains about the essential notes to play just brilliant . Thank you Brett what a dude you are.
Haha! Thanks man! Glad it helped!

Where did you stache the stache? How can it be papastache without the stache?
aint no time to stasche the gumbo or rattle around in a cage

the licks are so tasty! What color is your guitar? Did you rub the paint off on purpose?
it's "reliced"
no one wears tha paint off at the 18th fret
Embree Smith lol
Thanks! It's shell pink. A lot of it was already banged up but some of that is me as well. It looks a lot different from when I bought it.
@Embree Smith, Keith Richards regularly wears down his guitars on the upper frets in the same spot.
