I understand this is your personal experience. But to those who don't know a schizophrenic person personally, please, remember that no two people are the same. I know someone who has schizophrenia and he is a big teddy bear. He's very caring and very protective of his friends and family. He's a great person and we love him very much. Everyone is different, don't judge people based on only one story, and don't judge them on what they may or may not have.
My teacher was showing us different spoken word poems in class and I decided to come home and look some up myself. I came across quite a few that I loved, but when I came across Desiree... I don't know, I just find myself listening to her poems over and over because they are so beautiful, intense, and amazingly written. I.. I just would really love to meet her. Just have a conversation with her. I go to school and tell my teacher all about the poems I find. And most of all I have explained to her that I would just love to go to one of the Poetry slams here in Texas. It would just be an honor to meet all of these beautiful poets. Maybe one day I will be able too. ~Love Juice
this is a great poem about abuse and neglect but also good to keep in mind schizophrenia and abuse dont go hand and hand, this just happens to be the case and i am very sorry about her abuse at the hands of her father
My father is also a schizophrenic, luckily my mother divorced him when I was a toddler so that we would never have to deal with his episodes everyday. We rarely see him.
Uhhhhhh..... I'm sorry that happened to her, but being schizohrenic doesnt automatically make you abusive. "Schizophrenics are factories" No. Your schizophrenic father is a factory, don't generalise in a way that makes schizophrenics all seem like horrible people.
Schizophrenia is a very diverse illness that presents in a bunch of different ways. Her father was schizophrenic and abusive, not abusive because of his schizophrenia.
I didn’t get that from her at all. She is only telling her story. As someone that struggles with my own mental health I know that in order to have an open discussion we all have to have empathy and compassion for everyone’s journey and not judge someone else’s story or experience
Shes seriously my favorite. You feel every word that comes out of her mouth. Everything she says hits you and resonates. God bless her.
I've heard many of her poems, and she hurts so much. shes such a strong person and a wonderful poet, I wish I could give her a hug

Every word dripped with pain...my heart was heavy and open as I listened. Very moving.
bless your heart, sister. My mother was mentally ill. I understand. Here's a hug. You're so strong.
*This is so raw, and unnerving. brilliant though*
Wow, goosebumps all the way. Beautifully executed, too.
