i just discovered this poem... i've always had a... thing with my thighs, i always felt they were an issue. "i shouldn't wear shorts, or a dress, or a swimsuit. why would i reveal my thighs? no. never". until a year ago (more or less). i started a journey through self acceptance, and more importantly: self love. the path is rough and tough, and so am i. and turns out, i am made of so many things. i am music, i am lyrics, i am poetry, i am movies, i am desserts, i am tears, i am sweat, i am sex, i am flowers, i am colors, i am dresses and shorts and swimsuits. i am love. right now i love myself so damn much and i wear whatever the fuck i want, sometimes with a little bit of fear, but always bold. bold as my thighs. you can't imagine how much i cried listening to this. have an amazing evening.

This has inspired me so much. I've been told that I have thunder thighs and it always makes me sad. Although I'm quite average in size, I've been mocked so often for my thighs that every time I look at myself all I see is FAT. Her slam was amazing and now I have a different view on my thighs. My thighs tell stories about riding a bike 85kms through the countryside to raise money for people who can't walk. My thighs say that I can skate circles around the pretty young thing ogling the boys at the hockey arena. My thighs are exhausted at the end of a day patrolling around an urban university campus. My thighs speak of power, and if anyone doesn't like it, they can put on their too-short shorts, because too bad, bitch. If you get in trouble, it'll be one of us carrying you out of it. Like it's not enough to be catered to by every media outlet possible, when we say 'fuck you' to impossible body ideals thrown in our faces 24/7, 365 days a year, you get pissy. Imagine just what we, who do not fit into this category, the perfect trim thin body category, feel everyday. Go eat your hamburger I don't give a shit. I'll eat 10 if I want to.
Well I mean if youre saying "fuck you" to a women because of her small size you are you're not any better than someone saying "fuck you" because of a woman who is big. Why would people impose the pain they've felt on others? Skinny girls didn't ask to born into the society that praises them so they don't deserve to be disrespected anymore than a big girl does. We should be against the people who make the beauty standards, Modeling agencies, casting directors, etc. Skinny girls didn't do shit but live. Why can't we just accept every woman?
Maya Parris Don't go after the modeling agencies or the casting directors because they don't set the standards, we do. They give us what we want, and we want that. Not all of us, but majority rules. And until you can drag the majority onto your side of the spectrum, the standards will forever be unrealistic to the average person.
Mye Whistles I personally believe that the majority is average and I believe that average people only strive for "perfection" (whatever that means) because thats what is shoved in there face 24/7 by media. These are just my opinions.
