@@anzack2551 I will say that I'm not the best source since I have no personal experience, nor do I know anyone offline who does, so the best I can do is relay what I could tell. Both Smash and XC2 prime you in a way counter to most fictional portrayals by showing you Pyra and first and only later introducing Mythra. The reason this is so out of the ordinary is that Pyra is what some might call "an alter." She was constructed by Mythra's subconscious mind as a way to detach from the world after an extremely traumatic event that she was too immature to properly handle. In clinical terms, they could be considered to have Other Specified Dissociative Disorder Type-1b (OSDD-1b). This is closely related to the much more well known condition of Dissociative Identity Disorder. The main difference between the two concerns memory, with memory loss while dissociating being a requirement for DID. Pyra is extremely helpful in this case since she outright states that "their memories are shared, so it doesn't matter too much who takes control." With the obvious exception of their transformation, most of Pyra and Mythra's relationship with each other seems to closely match the experience of real world plural systems (a more general non-clinical term for anyone with multiple distinct consciousnesses). This includes switching, which is actually the official term from what I could find for their Down-B. (Smash was so close in naming it "Swap.") They also possess what's known as an "innerworld," which is often used to describe an environment that the various members of a system can hang out when not "fronting" (controlling the body). Most of the time, portrayals of dissociative systems in fiction tend to either cast them as villains, or as one of the alters being the villain or otherwise antagonistic to the rest of the system. Mythra and Pyra no only take leading roles, but the fact that the game makes you get to know Pyra as her own person long before you learn that she's something that many other stories would call "less real" really helps Xenoblade 2 present them both as fully fleshed out characters in their own rights. I will also mention that Monolithsoft has a bit of a tradition of including some form of dissociation in their games, but most tend to fall into the same traps as many other portrayals, with the Aegis being a notable exception, being more realistic and respectful than almost any other plural character I've ever seen. I highly recommend looking up information about dissociation from someone who actually experiences it. It's _really_ interesting to see, and rather enlightening if your main exposure has been through various forms of media. Shout-out to Oliver from Multiplicity&Me who has actually shown off some Smash Ultimate in one of his videos. Sadly it was from before Pythra were added. (A note if you look them up, just know that not every system has the convenience of every member sharing a gender like Myra do.)
Also i wish D-pad did mention this, but in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 you can get a special "newly added" Epuipment that has alot of easter eggs to smash bros in general. Not only is it for mythra giving her special "Smash Ulimate" design for... reasons. BUT the name and dialogue (or description) hides something.. it says "Melee, Brawl, Ulimate, and such." [Thank chuggaconroy for this info. Since it was added later on in an update for free.]
The reason "Sephiroth" doesn't blink is because in Advent children, that isn't his real human body, but an avatar created by the cells of Jenova. He is controlling this body from his soul that is swimming in the after life, the after life/lifestream can't take his soul because Sephiroth's will is very powerful.
Someone pointed out the removal of the Disney characters in the Dive into the Heart section is actually based on the coasters they use in some cafe or something in Japan
One neat detail Pyra and Mythra have is that they have different swimming animations when in water just like Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Pyra does a breast stroke while Mythra does a backstroke
Kazuya isn't strictly speaking a villain. Every male Mishima is at least a little evil but in terms of actual evilness it goes Jinpachi > Heihachi > Kazuya > Jin
@@gr8gmr That's cuz Jinpachi ain't evil period. He's the most honorable man in the entire Mishima family. The only villainy in him was the demon possessing his friggin corpse.
You know what, I'm just gonna admit it: I think Kazuya Mishima was, in my opinion, the most epic Smash reveal in the series. Maybe I'm a little bit biased here, though, due to being a long-time fan of the Tekken series.
Another neat detail for Mythra is that her final smash ends with a blast from her Artifice to launch opponents. This light beam does not happen in her level 4 special in Xenoblade 2
I think Sakurai, and his team have done an amazing job of capturing the spirit of these characters from their home games (even if it may not be 100% accurate for some, it’s still more than good enough)! 😃 It really is remarkable with Sora especially of how well Nintendo managed to hide all the Disney elements from Kingdom Hearts for his official Smash debut (I especially loved the part where you included the cleaning scene introduced in the recent updated release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons demonstrating on how Nintendo was able to make all the Disney references (besides Mickey Mouse’s iconic head symbol on Sora’s Keyblade, probably due to it being just a design, and not the actual mouse himself) vanish, DPad, that was hilarious, and very clever 😆)! Arigatougozaimasu, Sakurai-san!!! 👏👏👏 (I do hope that if we ever do get future Smash games, and there’s going to be cut fighters, I kinda hope Min Min’s not one of them simply because I don’t want ARMS to be forgotten about, I think it’s a great, and unique fighting game on the Switch. And I know Smash is about how well a character can play vs representation/who said character is, which is why Min Min’s fighting style has been mostly negative in the Smash community unfortunately, but, I still hope that she doesn’t end up as one of the potentially removed characters, though, given her mostly poor reception in Smash Ultimate, I’d understand... 😔 Here’s to hoping for an ARMS sequel. 🙏)
Also, I agree with you on how odd it was that they chose Spring Man’s stage “Spring Stadium”, and not Min Min’s stage “Ramen Bowl”. Maybe they wanted to give Spring Man some love since he wasn’t the chosen one? Or maybe they felt it would’ve been more of an interesting stage to play on than Min Min’s? Or maybe a combo of both? No idea? 🤔 Still a fun, and unique stage to play on, I think! 😃
I'm pretty sure someone else already mentioned this but donald and goofy are kinda represented in a way. So I was confused as to why they decided to add the Valor and wisdom form outfits instead of other outfits he has but then I remembered that sora fuses with goofy to use Valor form and with Donald to use wisdom form in kh2
Sora in Smash made my entire year. I loved the Kingdom Hearts series, it holds a special hole in my heart - almost like there was a dive into it, if you will
The Wii U received an enhanced port of Tekken Tag Tournament 2. The port included several Nintendo-themed alternate costumes, a new "Mushroom Battle" mode, and other features. (It was ported during the period where publishers thought the Wii U would repeat the Wii's early success.) Everyone forgets about the Wii U... The video even shows a screenshot of the Wikipedia page that lists a Wii U port, right before excluding it from a screenshot of all the Tekken games they could find that were released on Nintendo consoles.
A couple more things I want to add. When Pyra swaps the Mythra she can say "You're done!" which is another Xenoblade meme. She does not say "Don't forget me!" though. It would've worked as a star KO imo but oh well. Also, I don't know if Sakurai pointed this out in the Presents but the noise that you hear when Kazuya gets his rage is the low health noise from Tekken as well, as is the glowing red around the %.
You also forgot about stage details on sora with his music. Since sakurai mentions they have one composed song in his victory theme, and the winning animation in stamina mode is from kingdom hearts. Also those "trailer moments" in the full trailer are refrences to kingdom heart moments.
think my favorite easter egg is actually within the Pyra and Mythra trailer the characters who specifically fight them are Link Zero Suit Samus and Dark Pit who represents their respectable franchises, and it was around that trailers release it was their 35th anniversary despite Nintendo only celebrating Zelda's a nice call back to how they were all born in 1986
A lot of people don’t seem to notice one of Sora’s easter eggs. It’s another Valor form related one. When he has a battering item like a bat, sword, scythe etc and dash attacks you can see him spin his keyblade behind him while attacking, which is reminiscent of a Valor form attack
Not a 7 or 13 detail but the day Sora came out in Japan was the 19th of October which is the Birthday of Yoko Shimomura the composer of Kingdom Hearts music
Awesome work on this video! Cannot believe how much work Sakurai has put in with the last of the fighters’ moveset, music, and backgrounds, especially on Sora and Steve. Yes, Sakurai has exceeded on what we would’ve expected from these special final fighters and I agree that they should have a long break after all that hard work
Honestly the Microsoft reps were the only FP characters that stood out in terms of design. You could include Piranha Plant too if we're talking about dlc fighters as a whole.
I love admiring details like this. It's weird, I personally had almost no attachment to the DLC fighters (Min Min was the biggest reveal for me), but I got so hyped and excited for the fans of these characters, especially knowing that Smash would do them justice!
7:19 first time i heard that my immediate thought was "What About Mementos?", but turns out no, some random persona 3ds game has mementos in it, and its Japan release date was 2018. Props for research.
A sora reference you probably missed is that Sora has an unique dash attack with melee items, doing a key spin while doing it, which is a reference to the valor form I believe?
This makes total sense because there are seven of the light and 13 of the darkness. That makes total sense. from the keyblade series some kind of thing shattered into 20 pieces, but they've split up into two groups 13 of Darkness and 7 of Lights.
I feel like the reason they didn't go with the Ramen Bowl for Min Min's stage is because...well...it's a bowl, a stage curved inward. This would make it difficult for Min Min to land any hits. They probably chose Spring Stadium so that she can land hits clearly and accurately. But most importantly.... THINK YOU CAN TAKE MEEEEE!?
The disney wasn't scrubbed from dive to the heat they actually just used alternate stations of awakening used in a kingdom hearts promo event from awhile ago although I can't argue there is a big lack of it
Min Min easter egg: During the Final Smash, when Min Min fires her Dragon, you can see a gong behind the opponent. This is a reference in ARMS, where you can hit the gong in Ramen Bowl.
Steve is still the craziest inclusion for me, sure sora was a copyright nightmare, but to a lot of people my age, Steve and Minecraft as a whole means so much to us, and no one could think of how he would play even if he was in smash. He wasn’t even my dream character because I was utterly convinced there was no way he would get in
I was hoping for Ravio from Zelda, Or maybe other MegaMan characters. But if I could pick any character to be added, it would be Beedle (also a guy from Zelda)
The Maelstrom is the name of the smaller titan ship. Its the one Rex takes with Nia, Malos and Jin to go find the sunken ship Pyra is on at the start of the game.
@@DPadGamer well, seeing how the full name is argentum trade guild, it is probably safe to assume neither the ship nor titan is named, instead they both are only known for the population/organization on it. looking at the precedent of other titans from the game, it is mostly indistinguishable. the race of characters is given by their titan of residence, not the particular town they come from. ardainians from mor ardain, gormotti from the gormott titan, urayan from the uraya titan, and tantalesse from the tantal titan. the only residential titan in the game with a confirmed name is tantal's genbu, which a certain blade can directly communicate with (to avoid spoilers). That said, the only reasonable character to not have included for any of these to have shown up is Byleth, the character clearly added for marketing reasons. I'm really happy with all the incredible characters we got, and also Byleth.
I know not many people like steve, mainly due to the matchup, but i love what they did to him. They pulled so many aspects from his game and make him feel so different from everyone else. Steve definitely got the most love out of all the DLC characters
Sora's as it appears in Smash and Xion's were from that event (technically Xion's was also later a medal in Union X). Riku's and Terra's as they appear in Smash were not.
I want Conker. I've wanted Conker since I was a kid and would sneakily play it without anyone knowing. I loved Conker's Bad Fur Day and still do. So, if he got in then I would be so ecstatic that I would most likely cry.
@@JZJ7777 You do realize that he is leaving right? And that Nintendo if they wanted to could do whatever they want with it now. @@ravenfelter3055 yeah, these characters get in based on how popular they are, and if Conker isn’t popular, he won’t get in. I somewhat doubt they’ll be a new Smash game, and if so, won’t be anything like Ultimate.
Fun fact: Those Dive to the Heart stations were not actually created by Smash Ultimate, those exact stations have been used by Square Enix in the past for various Kingdom Hearts events when I guess they couldn’t get the licensing for Disney characters. Just goes to show how difficult the licensing for Kingdom Hearts is.
We still got Disney stuff in smash. Timeless River alternate and The Mickey chain specifically. I think it was a shock to all that we even got a timeless river skin, being that we never expected we'd get one from a Disney World. Technically his KH1 outfit is a Disney reference too, because he was designed in KH1 to resemble Mickey a little bit, but that's just tenically speaking. Either way, his inclusion is amazing and honestly the best thing that could have happened.
Sora was the absolute best character to be the final DLC character, but my heart still goes out to The Champions from Breath of the Wild. They absolutely deserved to have been included in this game at some point. Hopefully the Zelda series will get an actual new rep in the next game 🤞🏾
Interestingly, the sora dive to heart stained class isn't a smash original, it was first created and used for Kingdom Hearts 15th anniversary propaganda, for the other characters' I have no idea
FFvii got ported to switch, and according to a separate comment, mementos appeared very briefly in the background of one of the rare spinoffs that made it to nintendo consoles. it boils down to semantics, as those details are technically enough to make the statement true, even if the practicality of the instances in question is effectively irrelevant.
@@scoffeex1740 but before the statement was made. the statement wasnt that they first appeared in smash, but that smash is their only nintendo console presence. it is all just semantics, though. realistically, your point stands as more valid overall, but taking it literally, the other claim is the only "true" one.
I was really hoping Dark Souls wouldn't be added, I thought it was it during both the Kazuya and Sora trailers, lol. Pyra is extremely helpful in this case since she outright states that "their memories are shared, so it doesn't matter too much who takes control."
With the obvious exception of their transformation, most of Pyra and Mythra's relationship with each other seems to closely match the experience of real world plural systems (a more general non-clinical term for anyone with multiple distinct consciousnesses).
Not only is it for mythra giving her special "Smash Ulimate" design for... reasons.
BUT the name and dialogue (or description) hides something.. it says "Melee, Brawl, Ulimate, and such."
[Thank chuggaconroy for this info. Since it was added later on in an update for free.]
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was also released for Wii U, so that makes 4
I'm just disappointed that none of Sora's classic mode battles include the Duck Hunt duo as a teammate.
I never really saw Jinpachi as all that evil. But Kazuya is definitely a villain right now.
@@gr8gmr That's cuz Jinpachi ain't evil period.
He's the most honorable man in the entire Mishima family. The only villainy in him was the demon possessing his friggin corpse.
Didn't Jin nuke the middle east?
@@cillbipher2613 It has been a while since I played Tekken 5
@@KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva It's alright, lad.
Minecraft Steve was my most wanted character in Smash so I was so happy when he got in
You know what, I'm just gonna admit it: I think Kazuya Mishima was, in my opinion, the most epic Smash reveal in the series. Maybe I'm a little bit biased here, though, due to being a long-time fan of the Tekken series.
Same
Another neat detail for Mythra is that her final smash ends with a blast from her Artifice to launch opponents.
@@kingnewcomer2029 Tbh though as cool as Minmin is I wanted Twintelle because I liked how she looked better then Minmin.
Disney: "Get rid of all the Mickey marks." Sakurai: "But what about the keychain?"
Disney: "You get ONE."
You also forgot about stage details on sora with his music. Since sakurai mentions they have one composed song in his victory theme, and the winning animation in stamina mode is from kingdom hearts.
Also those "trailer moments" in the full trailer are refrences to kingdom heart moments.
think my favorite easter egg is actually within the Pyra and Mythra trailer
the characters who specifically fight them are Link Zero Suit Samus and Dark Pit who represents their respectable franchises, and it was around that trailers release it was their 35th anniversary despite Nintendo only celebrating Zelda's
a nice call back to how they were all born in 1986
A lot of people don’t seem to notice one of Sora’s easter eggs.
My question is why doesn't Steve flash red every time he gets hit?
Awesome work on this video! Cannot believe how much work Sakurai has put in with the last of the fighters’ moveset, music, and backgrounds, especially on Sora and Steve. Yes, Sakurai has exceeded on what we would’ve expected from these special final fighters and I agree that they should have a long break after all that hard work
Tora is a Driver, but he's an artificial one. Poppi is a blade he created, but for the purposes of ganeplay he does count as a driver
Thanks for mentioning the 7 and 13 Easter eggs about Sora. It's ridiculous that it's happening even on this game but it's also all the more funny.
Technically the Mishima dojo appears in the Tekken movie that was included in the 3DS game, so that fact its just half-true.
i just love how the fighter pass is full of cool human and anime looking characters then there's just blok
Honestly the Microsoft reps were the only FP characters that stood out in terms of design. You could include Piranha Plant too if we're talking about dlc fighters as a whole.
7:30 right before the wipe to these three games it said tekken tag tournament 2 was on the Wii U.
I love admiring details like this. It's weird, I personally had almost no attachment to the DLC fighters (Min Min was the biggest reveal for me), but I got so hyped and excited for the fans of these characters, especially knowing that Smash would do them justice!
“Steve isn’t exactly known for his combat”
Minecraft PVPers: ????????????
7:19 first time i heard that my immediate thought was "What About Mementos?", but turns out no, some random persona 3ds game has mementos in it, and its Japan release date was 2018. Props for research.
The Sephiroth line is missing the “私わ” (watashi wa) part which means “I will”
so it’s something like “won’t be a memory” or “won’t stay a memory”
You know technically speaking, goofy and donald are in the game with the wisdom and valor alt 👀👀
Always love seeing videos from you,
Always a treat to watch
I still can’t believe that Steve got into smash
The disney wasn't scrubbed from dive to the heat they actually just used alternate stations of awakening used in a kingdom hearts promo event from awhile ago although I can't argue there is a big lack of it
Everybody misses the fact that when you switch to Mythra she sometimes says "you're done".
I was really only able to appreciate the small details the team adds to these characters when my #1 character Steve got in. ^u^
He wasn’t even my dream character because I was utterly convinced there was no way he would get in
I was hoping for Ravio from Zelda,
Or maybe other MegaMan characters. But if I could pick any character to be added, it would be Beedle (also a guy from Zelda)
Impa for me!
Yeah, I would love for another Mega Man character. I love the Classic and X series
At long last... Sakurai can finally eat a sandwich
A Amongus sandwich!
He'll need a Scooby Doo level of towering sandwich to heal his poor tired body (and soul).
The Maelstrom is the name of the smaller titan ship. Its the one Rex takes with Nia, Malos and Jin to go find the sunken ship Pyra is on at the start of the game.
Oh I know, I just wasnt sure what, if any, the name of the ship's titan was.
There really isnt a clear answer to the question, as people have only been able to theorize the true name of the titans by various landmarks. uraya is othello? gormott is (cant remember off the top of my head)? Inconclusive at best.
Nah nah nah. The Argentum Trade Guild, specifically, is powered by the balloon whale titan Goldmouth. I just couldnt find a name on the Maelstrom's titan.
@@DPadGamer to be fair, mor ardain's titan battleships also dont have names. even if i was a bit rust on the details, the question still remains as to the discrepancy on which titans are worthy of names. XD
So happy that my fact from your community post was included! Thank you!
Let's not forget Gramps's most important comment:
"My back, a Smash stage. What will they think of next?"
I love how this implies that Smash is some sort of arcane knowledge known to the ancients
Good vid man! But Tekken Tag 2 was on a Nintendo Console....
The Wii U :(
Still one of it's best games though.
Ooh, good catch.
You forgot Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for Wii U.
(The best one in a Nintendo Console).
I wanted Sylveon because ...look at them. And I wanted a generation 8 Pokémon because the Pokémon representation has been out of date for a while now.
The immense amount of little details that sakurai and the team put in the game for every single character is really impressive. Such an amazing game
The Hollow Bastion Dive to the Heart station artworks are actually reused from KH 15th anniversary merchandise.
Sora's as it appears in Smash and Xion's were from that event (technically Xion's was also later a medal in Union X).
Riku's and Terra's as they appear in Smash were not.
I really love the small details in this game
I want Conker. I've wanted Conker since I was a kid and would sneakily play it without anyone knowing. I loved Conker's Bad Fur Day and still do. So, if he got in then I would be so ecstatic that I would most likely cry.
I’m sorry, but he won’t. Like he said, the roster is now complete.
@@JZJ7777 You do realize that he is leaving right? And that Nintendo if they wanted to could do whatever they want with it now. Meaning they could put Conker into the next Smash installment, but I highly doubt it and would be incredibly surprised if he got in. Mostly because he's an obscure character and there are far more popular ones out there. Besides I realize that me asking for thus is a pipe dream. Trust me.
I wanted Steve since the release of smash for Wii U. Let’s just say I screamed A LOT that fateful day when he was announced.
Have you thought about doing Easter Eggs in the character reveal trailers?
Sora came out on the 19th making it 14 days between announcement and release. I know because I was there
Gosh… Looking at it now, its crazy Disney let Sora keep his Mickey Mouse Keychain going into Smash.
Sora was the absolute best character to be the final DLC character, but my heart still goes out to The Champions from Breath of the Wild. They absolutely deserved to have been included in this game at some point. Hopefully the Zelda series will get an actual new rep in the next game 🤞🏾
Yeah at least someone that's not Link, Zelda or Ganondorf
As a single fighter?
"One way they did this was by adapting his mechanics while still keeping his 'Steveness'"

The arms music in the intro is very appreciated
My most wanted fighters for Smash Ultimate were Inkling, Sephiroth, and Sora. Boy am I happy with how this game ended up.
Imagine if Mickey was featured like the Fatal Fury fighters in the background, comedy
Interestingly, the sora dive to heart stained class isn't a smash original, it was first created and used for Kingdom Hearts 15th anniversary propaganda, for the other characters' I have no idea
@7:31 you missed a game. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was released on Wii U and even had exclusive Nintendo content.
About Mishima Dojo... Midgar and Mementos were never on a Nintendo console before Smash either
@@cullenlatham2366 FFVII got ported to Switch after Cloud and Midgar made it to Smash 4

There are probably no disney references with Sora because Smash Bros is a celebration of video games, Mickey Mouse isn’t a video game character. Doesn’t matter if he’s in Kingdom Hearts, no exceptions (except for R.O.B.)
