One of my bass playing heroes, and such an insightful person. I love he classifies himself a humble student of love and his support for the arts in underserved communities
What a genuine down to earth, and humble dude. Been a RHCP fan since I was just a small kid. Was actually one of my first cassette tapes, along with Tom Petty. May these legends never die.
Flea is such a soft hearted punk puppy. I love him. Read his book and watched endless videos with him. This is one where he is able to say what he wanted and the interviewer is leading him and trying to get him to say something "cool" . Beautiful interview.
Didn' think I would be tearing up and feeling so emotional watching a Hot Ones episode, but here we are. Thank you Sean for avoiding the annoying questions that Flea and the rest of RHCP get constantly bombarded with!
Watching Flea deal with pain is one of the most hilarious things I've witnessed in recent years! The howling, the gibberish, the scatting, the personal questions! If he wasn't doing an interview, I imagine he might have started doing gymnastics! Anything to ignore the pain until it drops to a more tolerable level!
What a cool dude, when Flea started talking about children not being able to experience art and music, it really got me. He's so right. It's so important for our children and humanity as a whole. ❤
I think this is a key issue for today's society. At least in the west. The arts are like the bridges between science and religion. Now people are more split than ever because a lot of these bridges are missing.
YES!! I played cello in elementary school and was borrowing one from the school as we were low income. Halfway through the year they canceled the program and took the cello. They told me I could skip lunch and be bussed to another school for it but we’d have to buy/rent our own cello. That was out of our budget so I was put into regular band with the clarinet which I hated but it was given to me by a relative so I didn’t really have a choice. 😢
I've never heard an interview with Flea, but this guy is so articulate, intelligent, and genuinely cares about music and the arts. Very inspirational how he relates the arts to math, which is something I and so many others have said. Great episode!
What I love the most is how Sean just let's the interview go where it's going yet still maintains the questioning for each guest. Not many UA-cam videos can be 23 minutes or longer and keep people fully engaged the entire time like Hot One's Does. Bravo
Flea's description of music, math, and the release of tension was simply brilliant. His words about music in schools hit home too. And he took BIG bites of those wings! One of the greatest rock musicians can now add "Hot Ones all-star" to his list of achievements. Flea is a good man.
When flea says thank you to Sean for reading his book I got mad when Sean said “we have to”. It’s an example of how he’s almost too humble. You didn’t have to, and because you did it was an awesome interview like always. I hope Sean takes credit as one of the greatest interviewers of the 21st century one day. He’s right up there with Nardwuar
Flea is open soul. Not confined by the generic "answer the questions and go". He goes into detail and he is so passionate about not just music, but art. Love ya Flea
TBH unlike most people who come on, Flea really has nothing financially to gain . BUT to be honest he's more of a real artist who did what he loved for love without having to get a 9-5 Prob similar to many .. what would I do with millions of dollars if I had food, place to live, did what I love ? Probably give it away 😂❤
I had such a smile on my face through this entire journey. And I can say honestly that this is the only Hot One's that actually had me shed a happy tear at the end. What a gem of a human.
I love that Sean ALWAYS surprises a guest with how much work they really put in to their interviews, shows how much care they put into the work and not just regurgitating the same generic questions.

I saw them in 1989 with their new (at the time) drummer Chad Smith and new guitarist John Frusciante. They were my little funk secret at the time, and i'll be honest....even though i loved them more than i could say.....i never thought they would appeal to the masses. I was wrong, and i should've known their genuine souls pouring out through their music would resonate with everybody. Every performance they give is a 101% effort, and they give you everything they have.
Thank you, Hot Ones, for giving your viewers a chance to see our favorite pop culture icons for who they really are. Even it's just for a moment, it feels like a real privilege and honor to get a peek behind the curtain of fame to see their true humanity.
Dude's got a good soul! He understands how blessed he is to do what he loves for a living and wants nothing more than to pass that blessing on to others.
one of the best episodes I've seen. Flea really gets it. I had to keep from getting emotional quite a bit during this, he just gets real with his feelings and most people won't. The ability to see the world that way is a gift and to appreciate that is cool. Supporting people who want to learn music? stop making me cry rn
Flea is the man. I’ve seen the peppers quite a few times over the years and I’ll always remember at the end of one of their shows closing out a massive festival, as a hundred thousand people were shuffling out of the grounds after a weekend of over-stimulation and over-consumption, Flea’s voice ringing out over the loud speakers “Thank you. Just be kind to each other. Please: love each other.” Now these are generic words on their own but there was this powerful sincerity in his voice that night. I could tell he was just a human being genuinely pleading with all of us, trying to spread some light in the world. I’ll always remember that.
In the past year, I've come to learn that Flea is a most amazing human! This is the most in-depth thing I've seen from him and, I just love him more every time I see anything of him!! What a complete childlike personality! I love him
That last answer was inspiring. I've never followed Flea's career closely, but he seems like he's a truly good and sincere human. Great interview, as always!
This is why Flea is my hero. All this chaotic energy behind a crazy Aussie who isn't afraid to be himself and is very open about everything and down to Earth. Guy really brings up the mood of everyone he talks to. Just wants to see some peace in the world and rock with us
What I like most about "Hot Ones", which usually goes unnoticed because of the unusual subject matter of these interviews, is what an excellent interviewer Sean Evans is, asking interesting questions that keep the interviewee very interested in the moment, despite how uncomfortable it all gets with each increasingly spicy bite.
I met the whole group when I flew them from Manila to Hong Kong. I invited them to the flight deck of the 777 and had a long chat with Flea while he sat in the copilot’s seat. What a great guy. Respect.
Sean, you and Chris did something amazing bringing this show into existence. In my opinion, Hot Ones is the best interview show/system on tv/the internet! I thought the same, until meeting him and he was the rudest person ive ever met.
But we won't we'll just all keep making "mistakes" and projecting it onto others and simultaneously normalizing it.
@@itzJSGI've met him over a dozen times and he was always very nice so... hmm... maybe he wasn't the problem? Think about it. Plus, everyone can have an off night. What have you done for music, education and the planet?
It's not just about the effort Sean and team put into the questions... it's also them understanding what types of questions their guest would like to be asked. They could ask Flea anything but they choose to keep it about the music which Flea obviously is most passionate about, it shares that passion with us viewers. 10/10
One of my bass playing heroes, and such an insightful person. I love he classifies himself a humble student of love and his support for the arts in underserved communities
I love that your editors took the time to add in real and helpful waveforms to illustrate some concepts. Props!

There will never be another Flea. That guy single handedly kept RHCP alive for us to enjoy now. Absolute legend.
“I am flowing WITH the wings” man always keeps bringing smiles to my face all these decades later. One of humanity’s best treasures 😂❤️
What a genuine down to earth, and humble dude. Been a RHCP fan since I was just a small kid. Was actually one of my first cassette tapes, along with Tom Petty. May these legends never die.
Flea is such a genuine, charismatic, and talented human.
Flea is such a soft hearted punk puppy. I love him. Read his book and watched endless videos with him. This is one where he is able to say what he wanted and the interviewer is leading him and trying to get him to say something "cool" . Beautiful interview.
do you mean "the interviewer isn't leading him..." ?
@@mysteradioyeah, that is the only logical sense to it
Didn' think I would be tearing up and feeling so emotional watching a Hot Ones episode, but here we are. Thank you Sean for avoiding the annoying questions that Flea and the rest of RHCP get constantly bombarded with!
What questions? I don't follow about musicians a lot.
@@SigmaDoomI would assume probably questions about drugs? Or some of the drama behind rhcp
Love how prepared this interviewer is; 'm a teacher and stress the importance of preparation to my students...will be showing these vids to my kids.
The gibberish was pure Wild Thornberries Donnie. Love it. 😂
What a cool dude, when Flea started talking about children not being able to experience art and music, it really got me. He's so right. It's so important for our children and humanity as a whole. ❤
Absolutely…the arts matter.
I think this is a key issue for today's society. At least in the west. The arts are like the bridges between science and religion. Now people are more split than ever because a lot of these bridges are missing.
Everyone, but children especially, benefits greatly from a creative/artistic outlet. Sometimes you need to say something you *can't* put in words.
“I’m a yearner, I care“… beautiful dude!
What I've always loved about Flea is he always stayed who he was from the beginning, very genuine guy.
Which is amazing because Flea grew up in L.A., the capital city of fake people LOL
What I love the most is how Sean just let's the interview go where it's going yet still maintains the questioning for each guest. Not many UA-cam videos can be 23 minutes or longer and keep people fully engaged the entire time like Hot One's Does. Bravo
That's what makes this show the best
I had a smile on my face throughout this one. Shout-out to the genuine and amazing Flea for being That Dude.
You can tell you have a good guest when they thank you and are genuine in their responses. Also Flea tries so hard to give back he is a legend.
Celebs have to get sick of the regular banter interviews go or the latest salacious b.s. people ask them about ... This is the best show
@@faithholy8316 Dude as a Z list local celeb, I can tell you that it's basically like every family function where you have to answer the same 3 questions over and over. In case you've ever wondered lol
I love this man! He's such a genuine beautiful soul. When he said, "Mostly emotional pain" I felt that. Most real moment. Thank you for having him on. It truly made my day. ❤️❤️❤️
Seriously, what a line.
What a guy.
Flea is just one of a kind. What an awesome interview. Thanks flea for literally making the world a better place
Music builds bridges of love, he says. What a wonderful human being.
I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers in concert this year, and they put on a better performance in their 60s than most bands in their 20s. Genuine, unbridled passion for their craft. I loved it so much, I took a flight 3 weeks later to see them again!
If you read his book and Anthony's, you'd know that Flea has always been a loving caring person and I love him for that. May this man live forever.
Flea has an undeniable, magnetic persona.
Love his attitude, energy and charisma ❤
Love Flea to bits, honest, humble amd genuine...
Listening to this man is a such privilege. Thank you, Sean, for this opportunity. Wise, humble words from Flea. An absolute artist.
I literally just told a bunch of my friends that I felt Flea would be an amazing guest on The Hot Ones. This episode is perfect
It would be amazing to see any or all of the band members on the hot ones
Thank you, Hot Ones, for giving your viewers a chance to see our favorite pop culture icons for who they really are. Even it's just for a moment, it feels like a real privilege and honor to get a peek behind the curtain of fame to see their true humanity.
❤
Flea .... Much Love brother ... Thank you for everything you sent out to use through the airwaves ..
This episode put the biggest smile on my face. Flea is just a genuinely good human being.
Flea is a living legend. The world would be a better place if we had more like him.
Thank you for sharing this
That's beautiful.
Flea’s passion for music is amazing. When someone loves what they do that much you can’t help but be in awe. Great episode Sean!
Flea is such a great guy. If only the world had more of him in it, and more people like him.
In the past year, I've come to learn that Flea is a most amazing human! This is the most in-depth thing I've seen from him and, I just love him more every time I see anything of him!! What a complete childlike personality! I love him
This man is so intelligent and the way he articulates everything so well, it’s just so captivating. Such an amazing story teller.
Respect.
He’s famous and deserves special treatment.
Sean, you and Chris did something amazing bringing this show into existence. In my opinion, Hot Ones is the best interview show/system on tv/the internet! It doesn’t change the celebrities personalities or put them in an off putting mood, it just lowers guard a bit but raises our (the everyday audience) acceptance of them. Flea is amazing… and you guys made it so EVERYONE can see it.
Flea is truly such a humble soul. I love his energy
