"The grandfather has a soothing voice." RIP to Christopher Plummer. A fantasticly charismatic and magnetic actor. To hear him quote Shakespeare - Star Trek 6 😉
This is one of my favorite Nicolas Cage movies of all time this is like Indiana Jones mixed with Mission Impossible. Plus Ben's dad is played by Jon Voight who you saw in Mission Impossible.
I used to be a high school history teacher and every year around the holidays we would show this movie. So a very large number of high school, kids have seen this movie.
American History was my best and all time FAVORITE subject in high school. This movie came out at the literal PERFECT time. My mom and stepdad took me to see it and we got SO into it. My favorite moment with Nick Cage's character is when he's escaping the bad guys, beats one with the map case and then another one suddenly appears. I still quote that "Oh come ON!" from time to time when things just aren't going my way! 😂
There still remains potential for a third movie as some of the side main cast is on board and hopefully they can agree for Nic Cage to agree on it since sooner or later he may be retiring. If it all comes together we’ll have to wait and see! I hope so I grew up on these 2 movies!
Ben Gates father was played by Jon Voight (Angelina Jolie’s dad). You may have seen him in the first Mission Impossible movie as the villain. He also played Ben Stillers father in Zoolander, as well as a bunch of other movies.
I haven’t seen Zoolander in YEARS. I only saw it at the theater when it first came out in 2001, Haven’t seen it since so there’s many people in it that don’t remember being in it… I had no idea Jon Voight was in Zoolander

the line you love... "if there's something wrong, those who have the ability to take action have the responsibility to take action" is an old principle. look up Noblesse Oblige... the obligation of nobility.
One of the best and most underrated actual hidden gems of a Nicolas Cage movie is Matchstick Men. It's got Sam Rockwell too. You'd absolutely love it, and literally nobody else has reacted to it. Very, very, VERY, worth the time. It's soo good.
I love the thought they expressed about modifying the protections of the Declaration as needed to keep it working. They NEED to start on that NOW! it maybe to late already!
Raising Arizona is a fantastic Nic Cage movie, and if you're into horror, Mandy is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen honestly. Cage in that film is just at the top of his game and the whole ride is worth experiencing for anyone who loves movies.
This movie is basically a modern version of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. It’s almost the same structure and scenes playing out. That said. It is still a fun film, with lots of added humour! The look on his father face. When he’s realises that his son has stolen the Declaration of Independence! 🤣.
Great movie/series. Second film is good too. Also love that it unapologetically celebrated American history instead of trying to pick it apart and tear it down like alot of entertainment does these days.
25:46 *Yea, the Statue of Liberty is copper. But, due to the oxidation of the metal, it turned a blue-greenish color. You can Google "Oxidized Pennies" and see the same color, since American pennies are made mostly of copper. And in "Spider-Man: No Way Home", The final battle takes place on a restored Statue of Liberty, which is, apparently, cleaned back to her copper state, before another round of oxidation brings her back to her blue-ish glory.* 😁🗽
Pennies aren't mostly copper. Before 1982 they were 100% copper, then there was a time when they were brass, but ever since 1982 they have been made of zinc plated with a thin layer of copper. Pennies are now approximately 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper, but the copper is completely external so it can still oxidize.
The first movie that I saw Nicholas Cage in was called Valley Girl. While obviously not the main character, he did have a very important role (I don't remember when it was released).
1983, and it sealed the deal for our family. We’ve lurved him for 40 years! And while he’s not the title character, he’s definitely one of the main characters. And the soundtrack is…ooh la la!
every year on or around the Holidays, National Treasure 1 and 2 became a must-watch set of movies. simply because they are so fun for the whole family.
Hey Mary, the actor who plays the father is Jon Voight. He's been a bunch of movies but you might know him from "Holes" as Mr.Sir. Also, he is Angelina Jolie's father. They even played a father/ daughter role in the older Tomb Raider movie
Such a great movie, loved Cage in these movies. Gotta watch the next too. You should really see Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, he plays himself. It’s kinda crazy but then, so is Nick. It’s an absolutely fun ride with him and Pablo Pascal.
I love this movie and the sequel. Back when Hollywood put effort into their stuff and legitimately made good products. I watch these usually about once a week. Great fun for the kids to tune into as well!
Great reaction! In the 2nd film, "Book of Secrets (2007)", they add Ben's mom, Helen Mirren. Lots of fun ensues. When you get a chance...could ya? BTW, Sean Bean's 1st big movie for American audiences was "Patriot Games (1992)" starring who I think is your favorite Star Wars actor. It would make a great spy movie reaction for you.
Thanks, Mary. I haven't seen that in a long time. Hats off to whoever wrote this incredible puzzle. Really enjoyed! :) Oh, almost forgot. Nicholas Cage has been in some very, very unusual and fascinating movies. Tuck these away: "Next" "Knowing" "The Family Man"
I live and work and have spent most of my life in Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence, along with the U.S. Constitution where written and signed. I walk by those places - Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, City Hall, Reading Terminal Market, etc. on a regular basis and it's always amazing to see tourists taking photos and talking about locations that are just another part of the great city where I live.
If you like long movies, try the 1959 Ben-Hur. 3 hours and 42 minutes. Long intermission, and a prelude, great music, and if you loved Charlton Heston in any movie, you're gonna love him in this.
Great reaction. Thanks for your work to bring it to us. Nic Cage does eccentric/crazy fairly well. He can be too much for me at times, but this was okay. His two films I liked the most were Leaving Las Vegas & Matchstick Men.

For another Jon Turtletaub movie, and with it approaching the Christmas season, I suggest While You Were Sleeping, with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman.
My favorite part of this movie you didn't show here on UA-cam, but it's the part near the end where you find out that Sadusky is wearing a Freemason signet ring.
I had to watch this reaction to see the perspective of someone who's not American, and very far away from it! Us Americans and even some Canadians grew up hearing a lot of this American history, so it felt very familiar, but I know it definitely wasn't that way for an Australian. I love a good Lola cameo! Riley seemed like such a party pooper back in 2004 when I was 11, now he seems very smart and like the voice of reason we all need! I think I've seen one film where Sean Bean has survived. Maybe two?
Great reaction Mary, and I absolutely love this movie!! 15:46 'Verdammt' is German, and it means 'damn'. Please react to National Treasure: Book Of Secrets - 2007, Taken (Extended Version) - 2008 & V For Vendetta - 2005.
Hi Mary! Great reaction to this movie! The FBI was warming up to Nick Cage because if you noticed the scene where the camera focuses on his ring it has the logo of the Freemasons...

The Statue of Liberty was copper colored at first, but when copper oxidizes it turns a green color.

@jokerj641 yeah but copper isn't called copper colored moron
I love this movie and the second one. Nicholas Cage adds enough charm to the main character to make this an enjoyable ride.
The first one was entertaining. The sequel was so obviously just a cash grab that was hastily thrown together at the last minute.
Forgot about the sequel, yeah that's a fun trip too!
"The grandfather has a soothing voice."
RIP to Christopher Plummer. A fantasticly charismatic and magnetic actor. To hear him quote Shakespeare - Star Trek 6 😉
Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war!
Better in its original Klingon
Kirk had Christopher Plummer as enemy. Picard had Amanda Plummer. :D
Chang: “We need breathing room….”
Kirk: “Earth, Hitler, 1938”
Chang: “I beg your pardon.”
[Everyone stares at Kirk]
He also played Arngier in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
A fun adventure film that works mainly because of Cage’s dedication to taking the material seriously
I felt the script was intelligent and busy enough to keep him focused - just what he needs.
Please do the sequel it’s just as good. The mystery is always fun
This is one of my favorite Nicolas Cage movies of all time this is like Indiana Jones mixed with Mission Impossible. Plus Ben's dad is played by Jon Voight who you saw in Mission Impossible.

Unironically think these National Treasure movies are the natural successor to the Indiana Jones original movies.
I've never really connected with Bollywood movies.

Yep, I would recommend watching that one as well.
Yeah, if you enjoy listening to characters argue just to argue. In the first NT the banter was witty and lighthearted. The sequel was just cringe.
It kind of has more in common with Da Vinci code, in my opinion, with the number of puzzles. One of the very few PG movies Nic cage has been in
I don’t know why but I never saw Da Vinci Code, for some reason it just wasn’t on my “to see” list. But I definitely wouldn’t wind seeing it however
