The New York newspaper strike was in progress at this point which made stations like WCBS (and WINS) more valuable than ever!
And since 1995, WCBS and WINS have been sister stations.
Radio news or any news isn't what it used to be even then. Gosh I still remember listening to CBS News on the radio while riding around with Mom.
Nowadays, most CBS stations do just two minutes of network news, except for the twice-a-day "World News Roundup", which runs about 8 minutes. I remember when all networks had 5 minutes, with most of them being at the top of the hour.
Mr. Jordan, thanks for identifying on the audio portion, when the recording was made. Great foresight!
CBS Radio News RULED back then! There was a station in my hometown that was ab=n affiliate, but those days are long gone.
So true!
I meant to say a CBS affiliate in my hometown back then. It's now all-sports and Fox Sports-affililiated.
Meant to put a question mark after my query about Steve Reed.
At 0:55, Mr. Vaughan mentioned Steve Reed. Is he, perchance, still on air.
