REMEMBERING DICK BIONDI (1932-2023)--"POP GOES THE MUSIC," WITH DICK BIONDI, AUG. 3 AND 10, 1969

Sorry to learn today of the passing of radio giant Dick Biondi at the age of 90. In tribute to Biondi I'm reloading recordings I made back in 1969 of his "Pop Goes The Music" series, which I first shared on this channel six years ago. Here is my original description: “Pop Goes The Music” with Dick Biondi, WCFL radio, Chicago, Illinois, recorded over the air on August 3 and 10, 1969, 11 p.m. ET. This is a combination of portions of the two shows, which featured music of 1965 and 1966, consecutively. I apologize for the inferior quality of this aircheck, but I am posting it because I believe it is the only recording online which provides a sample of legendary disc jockey Dick Biondi’s Sunday night rockumentary series “Pop Goes The Music.” I have searched over the years for better quality airchecks of this series to no avail. I recorded these audio clips on two consecutive Sundays in the summer of 1969. The Chicago signal was being picked up on my radio in Connecticut-AM station drift, static and all. An FCC report of this period notes that "Pop Goes The Music" was broadcast by the Public Affairs Dept. of WCFL on Sunday nights, from 10-10:30 p.m. CT from May 18 to Aug. 31, 1969, tracing the history of pop music for the years 1956 to 1968.
