  • WCBS-AM/CBS RADIO NEWS, NEW YORK, POWER BLACKOUT, JULY 14, 1977
WCBS-AM Radio with Bill Fayen leading up to the 1 a.m. network news. New York City was in the midst of a major power blackout. The network leads with David Jackson (1945-2015) reporting that a U.S. helicopter had gone down in North Korean airspace, but quickly the network, based in New York, experienced technical troubles likely due to the blackout. It briefly goes back to Fayen at WCBS, then resumes with the network. Coverage of the blackout takes over the network newscast, with a continuation of the local situation once it returned to WCBS.
