Ps3 needs the hard drive to boot up , and if you put any hard drive on , you need to install ps3 software on a thumb drive to install It on the new hd.

the ps3 is toast. Its the RSX that has gone on it.
You do not know that for sure without proper diagnosis. You must check Syscon before coming to any conclusions. This kinda misinformation is why it took so long to come up with real answers as to why these systems YLODed
