Guys should be wearing safety eye protection with those wire wheels. I had a wire go into my eye a few years back. Didn't know till several months later. Thankfully it wasn't in my line of sight, but to side. No damage thankfully! Always wear eye protection when doing any grinding or sanding. Looked really good afterwards though.

Well it does do damage your eyes swim in saline (salt) and such any kind of steel will rust almost instantly, I had the same problem occur, ( and I "was" wearing glasses) had an eye specialist pull out the embedded wire 2 days of pain later 35 years later the rust mark is still there, just off my line of sight

Its all fun and game until you have to see an eye doctor so he could pull the rust particle off the eye. 5 visits and plenty of antibiotics later I bought 3 safety glasses to have around the house and the garage.

I've had a small piece of wood fall off my hair in the shower into my eye and embed into my eyelid. It only hurt when I closed my eye but I went to the ER because I thought it was metal since I was working with the wire brush. I've scratched my cornea before and didn't want it to happen again.

The rubberized undercoating traps moisture and rust. No matter how well you try to remove rust, there will always be little nicks in the nooks and cranny's you can't get to. When you spray rubberized coating over those spots, they trap moisture and are never allowed to dry. It's like a greenhouse for rust. So it rusts faster than normal, and worse, you don't see it because it's hidden by the black shiny undercoating. So your frame might be almost rotten trough, without being able to see it. The only time rubberized undercoating could be used successfully is on a brand brand new car that just rolled from the factory with the guarantee there is no rust in there, but I think the best thing is just to stay away from this stuff. Use a paint that reacts with rust and converts it, like the european Hammerite from AzkoNobel. Or lanolin based coatings, like fluid film.
PS: Use eye protection instead of a mask when using a wire wheel. Trust me, getting a steel wire in your eye is a lot worse than breathing in a little dust.

      Agreed.
Two products have impressed me over the years.
The best carbon corrosion neutralizer and protectorant would be Blue Steel (accept no substitutes). It dries hard, shiny and black. On top of that, you could go with a lead-based marine primer if you choose. However, Blue Steel is sufficient. No need to wire brush however you do not want rust flakes.
The very best for new steel, with no corrosion, is a marine product with the main ingredient of super-glue (cyanoacrylates). This stuff does not come off. Silver in color. 30 years ago it cost $60 p/qrt.

It took me 4 weeks to do my 05 f150. I removed the 8' bed, drop the tank.
Cleaned the frame inside and out...
Replaced parts of the frame that were rusting out with a frame repair kit from Pocono metals.
Coated everything inside and out with wool Wax Black.
Every fall I apply another coat of woolwax black. It's been 5 years now with no new rust.
Did my wife's 04 trailblazer 10 years ago with Eastwood's internal frame coating (4 coats).
Did the outside of the frame with Rust-Oleum rust reformer and three coats of rustoleum rusty metal primer over the top of that with three coats of rustoleum professional black paint. And the trailblazer is rusting apart but the F-150 has no new rust. What you doing is a waste of time. And money.

There was some shiny metal in between the rust here and there. It took on and off about 2 weeks... That's because of work.
I did not use any pretreat like Rust-Oleum Rust reformer.
Blew everything clean with a leaf blower, compressor and even a hand broom. Got as much dust off as I could. Then just to soak it what wool wax.... In the framing & out

This will just make this rust more but hidden behind the rubberized coating. Being from the rust belt, this is fairly common knowledge that you don't put rubberized undercoating over existing rust unless EVERY SINGLE BIT of rust is removed. Need to use a non hardening (usually oil or waxed based) coating

    • @El_Diablo_LI
      @El_Diablo_LI Рік тому +6

@Heffalompen That's the problem. It's almost impossible to remove ALL of the rust. Which means what ever you don't remove will be susceptible to worse rusting. This is why non hardening products like Surface Shield, works best for applications like this.

Took my 2018 JKU with 4000 mi on it to Ziebart for undercoating. First trip I checked underneath to find miss spots. Took it back to inform them and their response was to take it back in for a respray, nice. I checked underneath after the respray to find they sprayed the missed spots as well as the exhaust, back side of my rims and tires, and my brakes, which caused a pulsing in the brake pedal and somewhat diminished brake performance. After complaining, they refunded my money and removed over spray from rims and tires, not without argument, but I had to replace the rotors and pads. Should have done it your way, nice video content, well done.

ATTENTION anyone considering options to undercoat their vehicle to prevent rust (especially in the Rust Belt). Watch Repair Geek's series on undercoating. He's currently got a 6-years-running annual comparison of the various products available. Spoiler alert: he's narrowed it down to 2 products that stand out among the rest and, therefore, will only be doing this comparison for another year.

I used rustolium rust reformer after cleaning my floorboards and frame sections of my wagoneer, 3-4 coats 6 years later and nothing has come back, my frame and floor was way worse as far as coverage of rust goes too. some sections were chunky, and had to be bashed with a hammer like 100 times to get the chunks off,the thin sections i cut out and welded new steel.

After all my research that rubberized coating will not protect your frame in time moisture will get under it and trap it in under the coat. What I have done is remove surface rust the clean and prep it with degreaser the apply Por-15 which binds to rust and makes it a paintable surface. And then apply fluid film to the inside of the frame to protect from the frame rusting from inside out.....
