Did this on my 2013 Fiesta ST prior to last winter and it has stood up brilliantly. When I reapplied last month the water was still just running off underneath & it's definitely stopped the rust on the subframes & arms dead.
Quick question. I’m going to use bilt hamber auto foam underneath my car every few weeks in winter to keep salt off the underneath. The car is getting undersealed also but was worried the underseal will get removed or weaker if I wash with some form of snow foam?
It’s nice to see people taking care of their cars. Specially when it’s very difficult to find a car wash with ramps like we have back in Brazil. Well done!👍🏼
Just used on my four year old crossover which was beginning to show a little age. Bought the basic Regular kit but then realised that the injector wand was needed for sills/box sections. The injector wand fits onto the regular sprayer. Red hot day so power washed and Lanoguarded three hours later when dry. Lanoguarding took under an hour. I put the car on ramps, back then front. I used half the container. - 1ltr. Wear old clothing as the lanoguard drips if very warm and sticks. Really pleased. Then wondered if the motogrease would be good for my old black composite front door. Tried it sparingly with a brush (hardly used any) and wiped with a cloth. The door looks like new. I think I will find other applications.
Nice RS! I'm in the USA and Ford no longer offers the Focus or RS anymore here. Here in the states we have some new products; Fluid Film Black and Woolwax Black (Both Lanolin based products)... it really makes the underbody look great while protecting it.
Underseal your cars yourself when you get them new if you don’t who’s faults that. Lamp guard is a waste of time. Also your sealing in rust that’s already there. You have to treat it first with a rust converter such as kurust. I put kurust in a spray bottle go over the underneath first let that dry. paint with hammerite spray paint and then you guard it

Hi Gary, thanks for this great video, showing the complete process from start to finish, especially showing how to apply the grease and glad you found the actually application easy! Glad your RS is now protected! Thanks again
Hey! No worries, once the clean was done the application was very easy and now it has dried it looks even better. It’s given a nice matte finish 👌🏻 I’ll be topping up same time next year 😁
I have a 2012 Subaru STi and have zero rust on the underside. Blows me away this car looks like this. Everytime it snows, I spray the underside with water to get the salt off. I'm gonna look into doing this.

Helpful video...Realistically there are no short cuts to get a long term solution to get rid of the visible rust/dirt, you need to remove the front and rear sub frames to get access to all parts....then sandblast/wire brush prime and paint .....then use this product to maintain the finish long term...

Good to see you back, Gary. Love the video. I’m assuming this problem exists with the mk3 RS as well? I’ve had mine for over 3 years now, and rust is something that worries me too. I’ve driven it 3,000 miles in that time for that reason. I live in Scotland so rain is a common occurrence! But as you say, life is too short, and I want to be able to enjoy mine more. Reckon what you’ve done here might be the best thing for me as well then? Cheers and all the best for 2023, mate. Love the channel and keep the excellent videos coming.
I would highly recommend that you get a spray gun with one of those long plastic tubes that has a nozzle on the end of it that sprays in all random directions, and shove it right down inside the cavities to coat the inside. Otherwise there is going to be a whole load of really nasty stuff going on that you can't see until it's far too late. I'm in the process of doing my Mk3 at the moment, and I decided to remove the side skirts and I'm glad I did because it turns out there was a whole load of mud and stones trapped between the skirts and the pinch welds and it was just stuck there trapping moisture 24/7. Honestly, it's the places that you can't see that you need to be concerned about most.
Need to do something like this ASAP this winter for my 2010 CRZ, I haven't even really looked under it properly since I bought it but I know underside rust is a huge issue with them. The process doesn't seem too difficult watching your videos and this lanoguard stuff looks like it does the job. Think I need some little ramp/bricks to lift the car up as I'm more dreading having to jack the car up than I am doing the actual cleaning/coating.
Your car Is Amazing! FocusRS Is awesome! Your did a great job, but it's impossibile to reach all the spots like that, the best solution (for me) is to strip a part the rear axle, Sand blasting the rusty components, replace the worst one and than apply: 2 coat of metal primer, 2 coat of black or silver color and 2 of clear coat. Like that the subframe will last really a lot, and with one bottom wash per month, you will be able to keep it shining as new over the years...
I did the same to my Mk3 RS a few years ago with Bilt Hamber. Bit of a faff to do, but worth it I think to stop some of the rust. The paint protection from (Ford's) factory is shockingly poor
Hey Gary, good job! On a separate note, worth keeping an eye on the Y section between the 2 boxes of the Milltek as they are prone to splitting. I had to have mine welded up last year as it had split
I want to get mine washed underneath as soon as we have some more daylight and warmer weather. But want to scrub the rust and then spray it with some hammmerite
Used it on my gr Yaris about a week after I bought it new. Car is gonna be a keeper so thought being a Japanese car better to prevent than to repair in future
Another brilliant video I did a complete clean and repaint of my txs a few weeks ago thinking this year I’m going to replace front and rear subframes as they are starting to get crusty and to be honest it’s not all that expensive
I would have been tempted to use a rust converter before the lanogaurd. I used Jenolite aerosol converter on my mk3 RS suspension parts then painted them with black chassis paint.
Yea a few people have said this too - but the instructions don’t mention that it’s necessary as this allegedly stops the rust in its tracks (albeit it doesn’t remove it). It wouldn’t have been a bad idea though but without a 4 post lift I just kept it as simple as I could.
@Car Focused I feel your pain, I did mine lying on my back in the street. Worst part was the fine mist of cavity wax ect that completely covered me by yhr end of the job. Ended up washing my hair with white spirit to get the wax out.
Been looking at this product as it comes up on my UA-cam channel, just had to have a new engine put in my 63 plate Audi tt fitted by Audi dealership after a botch timing chain failed job done by a garage, the car has been checked top to bottom by Audi and the car runs like new , so now because of its age will be doing this to my tt , thanks for showing this it's give me some insight of how to do it, although not looking forward to it ,cheers 👍
Great to see a new video on the RS mate, what a difference!! Definitely worth the effort 👍 I washed my underside couple weeks ago think ill be looking at getting some lanoguard now 👍
Great video Gary, shows how tho use this product and the results you can achieve. I think it looks well. Definitely something I’m considering on my mk3 🚙
actually Ford has an option to treat your car from factory but not many people buys it i believe, you can check your VIN# to see if you get it, my mk3.5 2017 is without factory treatment and looks worst then yours under, I will have to treat it against rust myself very soon
Gonna get that kit. Just spent the last 3wkends rubbing back the subframe and trailing arms etc, all primered now ready for topcoat. De-rust and paint underside next before re-fitting, will be using Lanoguard from now on coz I aint doing this again 😮

@@CarFocused Credit where due my friend. What i came across whilst on this topic last night, and products was waxoil, and in all honestly, from what i found, and the comments and replys i read, seems a much better option, lasts for years, little prep, very cheap in comparison, and comes in handy spray cans, so i wouldnt need any sprayguns, tools i dont have, n having watched it done, feel i could do the task easy, s waiting for a sunny day, and the wheels will be off one by one, so as to get to all suspension parts, wheel arms etc... I will be def interested in seeing how Lanoguard performed anyway, plus any more progress n uploads you do, i d love to have the choice of taking out my RS or ST!!! Probably be banned or skint with speed cams very quickly. Its all i can do to stick to the limits in my 1.6 tcdi 🚀
Tidy car love that car ❤️Your video was so good as i am thinking about this application but being a girly will have to get this done at a garage. Thanks for sharing this will deffo get this done as Dean is a 13 year old Fiat 500 that needs attention ❤
Nice clean-ish underside but you really need to treat the surface rust before spraying it. Hammerite do a treatment that might be better that can be put over rust ? 30 years ago I used a wire brush and treated my cars rust before applying underseal even my Alfa didn't rust once regularly treated. I used wax seal in the sills and doors. Regular washing and cleaning a car helps prevent corrosion but stones do a lot of damage underneath your car. Always make sure your car ramps are rated to take the weight of your vehicle as some cheap ones are rubbish.
Tbh mate the car will have a full underbody restoration over the coming years - this is just a stop gap to slow things down a little and get it looking a bit better too. As for the ramps, they are some of the best you can buy, excellent bits of kit from RaceRamps.
I’m givin a thumbs up 👍 I’m not a fan of focus RS’s as I’ve got a Cosworth and mk2 escort rs but I like the sound of the lano guard and this geezas not annoying or trying to be funny which is rare these days on UA-cam’s 😂
I always thought lanogaurd put like a black coating over the rust? Will the rust still flag on an mot? as I've seen some advisories on a few cars saying underseal added
The Hammerite stuff does that, Lanoguard is just a wax coating to repel contaminants after application. It does darken the subframes and make them look better though. It won’t get rid of rust, but it will prevent it from occurring / getting worse.
If it can rust apply normal thick engine oil, messy job but hey it's the best. Get waxol apllied in every nuck and hole using a high pressure applicator, this kinda atomises the oil droplets so it settles everywhere, sealey sell a good gun and kit for this. Don't forget to where a mask and eye protection. Lets keep these Fords rollin :)
If you have access to another car I'd have been tempted to go down the route of taking it all off and getting all the parts individually powder coated and doing it over a period of time. You'd gain all the knowledge plus you'd have tonnes of UA-cam content
It’s a Ford there built with rust no point in trying to prevent it,I could here it rusting in the video lol,did this to my gti but used ACF50 and just wow
All that has done is encapsulate the rust into the frame even more so. Why did you miss the most crucial step of wire wheeling and sanding off the rust? You'd have been better off with Bilt Hamber products, far superior.
I just followed the instructions mate - I actually went a bit further by properly cleaning before application. To quote Lanoguard; Lanoguard prevents and completely stops rust developing further. It will creep, bind, and bond underneath surface rust. It creates a barrier by hermetically sealing to the surface stopping water and oxygen getting in, therefore not allowing rust to develop. There are a lot of people out there who use this stuff and swear by it, so thought I’d give it a go.
@@CarFocused not knocking your method or application as you said you just followed the instructions. I just never understood how you just slap products over the top of rusted areas as I was looking into using Lanoguard myself on my own car but I just felt as if you were just covering the problem up rather than rectifying it. I had washed mine underneath, degreased and then wire wheeled and sanded back everything to bare metal. Then it was hydrate80 rust convertor, zinc primer then the bilt hamber cavity wax and underseal.
@@Thatcntwiththecivicyea the point of this is to slow the process down / stop more rust appearing. Luckily my car wasn’t all that bad anyway so it should provide a nice barrier for the next year or so. Long term I’m going to have a full resto done so hopefully this will suffice until then 😊
@@CarFocused Been looking at this for a while, read the lanogaurd instructions I'm sure it has something to do with sheep. If you've ever had to manhandle sheep you will know there fleeces are really greasy, your video has swung it for me thanks buddy. 🤙🏴
I was Laughing watching you clean the underside of your car a easier way is to Leave the car on floor with your jet wash use path/ drive attachment the one like upside down pan attach some casters on wood at correct height so will just pass underneath car use couple of screws through plastic washer head take it off or Leave it on shouldn't get in your way when path cleaning should take 15mins full car try it 😀
That’s a good was to do it but it won’t get all the stubborn grease and grime off which has accumulated over the last 13 years - that needed some hands on action!

Looks like a good product, will be interested to see any follow up in time, as i see you ve only recently done this. Approx from start to finish, how many hours would you say this took you in all? I ve checked the prices of the product, reasonable i think.,. Great ramps too, i ve got a set of the metal type,, and i always think thy are going to flip!! Top job, and excellant job of explaining and filmimg....
Hi mate and thanks for the comment. I’ll do another video at the end of the year to see how it’s looking underneath. Was a job I’d been wanting to do for ages so was nice to finally get it done!
Brilliant car chap, wish they had these in the states
Thanks! Yea she’s a beauty 😊
Great video and a super thank you for giving details on your ramp sir 😊
No problem 👍
Given this was a year ago, interested to hear how it has stood up.
Apologies, I hadn’t got to that section of the video where you explain about the ramps 🙄
Awesome video buddy, think i’ll get some to do parts on my cosworth. love them race ramps
Cheers dude. Well worth giving it a go 😁
Tidy car love that car ❤️Your video was so good as i am thinking about this application but being a girly will have to get this done at a garage.
@Car Focused Got it,may I know if it's ok for you to review our foam cannon S V3.0?Thanks in advance!☺
Great video, thanks. Man, that's a shiny backbox!
I’m givin a thumbs up 👍
I’m not a fan of focus RS’s as I’ve got a Cosworth and mk2 escort rs but I like the sound of the lano guard and this geezas not annoying or trying to be funny which is rare these days on UA-cam’s 😂
Haha thanks mate - I do love a Cossie to be fair 👌🏻
I always thought lanogaurd put like a black coating over the rust? Will the rust still flag on an mot? as I've seen some advisories on a few cars saying underseal added
The Hammerite stuff does that, Lanoguard is just a wax coating to repel contaminants after application. It does darken the subframes and make them look better though. It won’t get rid of rust, but it will prevent it from occurring / getting worse.
Great job Gary car looks so good I'm thinking about doing mine now good 2 keep these old fords on the road
Go for it mate. Worth doing just to slow down the ageing process 😁
Great video love your car I’m a big white fan and it looks really good 👍🏻😉🏴
Glad you like it!😊
Is this product related to 'Lanotec? I use Lanotec for my boat trailer , winch and the boat engine! It's an Australian product I believe?
I don’t think they’re related, as far as I’m aware.
@@CarFocused Thanks! * Sheep oil ( Lanolin) based product. Very good.
This is why I get Krown rust proofing done once a year. Let someone else do it and deal with the mess. Well worth the $$$
great content, my next job on my 150k c3 picasso
How good is lanoguard? Any rust proof treatment better in uk
Where did you get the ramps from pal?
Race Ramps 👍🏻
Nice one thanks @@CarFocused
Interesting video, I wonder did you wear a mask while spraying the Lanoguard on?
I didn’t mate as I was out in the open - but in hindsight a probably should have. However it is non toxic and environmentally friendly.
Didn’t Karcher do an under car cleaner in the past?
There’s something like that kicking about, but for this particular job I wanted to make sure I got in all of those tricky areas.
Did you get a quote from fjrs for this job
Nope, just something I wanted to have a crack at myself!
How the hell do you do it without getting covered in crap? A would be dripping wet? Anyway good job 👍🏆
My friend, Always keep on mind. Safety first. Do not rely on just "ramp" Put also a jack stand. This is not good. This is no good.
top job mate! id like to do mine in the summer
You should!
What are these ramps your using mate ?
RaceRamps mate 👍🏻
Hi mate where are those foam blocks from?
Hi mate they are a two piece ramp from RaceRamps!
If you have access to another car I'd have been tempted to go down the route of taking it all off and getting all the parts individually powder coated and doing it over a period of time. You'd gain all the knowledge plus you'd have tonnes of UA-cam content
I just don’t have the time at the moment. Plus that’s really a job for a 4 poster. Wouldn’t fancy doing that on axle stands.
What ramps are you using Gary?
They’re Race Ramps mate - not mine though, borrowing from a friend. Very good bits of kit!
Definitely doing this on my ST180! Thank you for the video 👍
Thanks for watching!😊
very useful info. thanks for helping me out
No problem!
would you be repainting the rusty parts?
In the future but not at the moment.
Good work Gary 👍🏻 looks better for it too.
Thanks Keith 😊
Hi, where did you get those car ramps?
Thanks
They’re not mine mate, borrowed them from a friend but they are made by Race Ramps. Not cheap though!
Thanks Gary very helpful
What ramps are they mate
Race Ramps
It’s a Ford there built with rust no point in trying to prevent it,I could here it rusting in the video lol,did this to my gti but used ACF50 and just wow
Do you have any experience with dryice?
None at all - but it isn’t cheap!
@@CarFocused i know 🙈
I treat my cars when new. It'll never rust if you do it every year or two.
It’s a great idea to do this. Would definitely keep the underside in way better condition down the line!
What ramps are they?
Race Ramps
OLD USED OIL MIXED 50 50 WITH SHUTZ ON OLDER CARS TRUCKS VANS SPAYED ON IS WHAT WE USE STAYS TACKY YOU NEVER GET RUST NEAR AN OIL LEAK THINK ABOUT IT
Looks great! Thank you!
Does it try or stay tacky ? Also does water bead off ?
It’s a little bit tacky now and has dried with a matte finish. Yes, water beads off now 👍🏻
@@CarFocused nice. I’m a tech so don’t fancy working on my car with it all greasy etc
Very good video pre application thx so much 👍✅
No problem 👍
Dynax s50 cavity wax is extremely effective made by Bilt Hammer
All that has done is encapsulate the rust into the frame even more so. Why did you miss the most crucial step of wire wheeling and sanding off the rust? You'd have been better off with Bilt Hamber products, far superior.
I just followed the instructions mate - I actually went a bit further by properly cleaning before application. To quote Lanoguard;
Lanoguard prevents and completely stops rust developing further.
@@peterbalac1915 yes mate I believe it contains Lanolin from sheep. It smells like sheep 😂 Glad you found this video useful!
I was Laughing watching you clean the underside of your car
a easier way is to Leave the car on floor with your jet wash use
path/ drive attachment the one like upside down pan attach some casters on wood at correct height so will just pass underneath car use couple of screws through plastic washer head
take it off
or Leave it on shouldn't get in your way when path cleaning should take 15mins full car try it 😀
That’s a good was to do it but it won’t get all the stubborn grease and grime off which has accumulated over the last 13 years - that needed some hands on action!
Why nobody painting the underside
