  • I woke up early one day to go start the Jaguar XJR and I noticed a low, high pitched whining noise coming from underneath the hood. Once I opened the hood I was able to smell something electrical burning and also hear the noise coming from somewhere near the alternator. I immediately thought it has to be the alternator making that noise and that particular smell. So, I went and grabbed my handy, dandy battery tester from the garage. Lo and behold it was showing that the alternator wasn't charging at all (No Output). It also showed that current voltage of the battery and the alternator running was around 12.4 to 12.6 volts. That right there was enough evidence for me to come to a conclusion that the alternator was no longer charging and needed replacing. So, I did just that and I ended up putting a brand new alternator in as well as new belts (main drive & supercharger). I also went ahead and changed out the old supercharger fluid which was dark brown in color with new supercharger oil and now the Jag is running like a charm!
    More stuff coming for the Jaguar XJR..

      MInes a 2000 Jaguar XJR! What kind of symbol do you see up on the dash? Can you describe the issue? It could be a low or dead battery, fuel pumps are not working anymore (not building enough or any pressure), starter related issue, alternator or a blown fuse or bad relay. It could be a number of reasons but I'll try my best to help you troubleshoot your issue.

      @@EvanTheMenace it starts if i jump it, but i haven’t gotten the time to check if it’s the alternator, i will be checking in the morning. i really appreciate your willingness to help!

      @@EvanTheMenace it was a battery issue! just had to grab a new h8 and all is well. again thanks for your input.

      @@GloBoyKoolAid Glad to hear you were able to fix it and it was as simple as a battery replacement. Hope you got yourself a nice AGM battery as those lead acid batteries aren't as good as compared to the new AGM H8 batteries. All in all, if you have any questions, feel free to hit me up and I will do my best to help you out!!!

    8 ounces is what it should take, I got 6 outta mine when I changed it.
    What fluid did you put in? Didnt go with the AC delco blower oil?

      That how much I put in and how much I pulled out. You really have to like wiggle the hose in and at the same time pull back on the syringe and try to see if fluid starts getting sucked into the syringe. It's a little tricky because of the hose you putting in and the size of the hole and space you working with.
      No, I used what I had in the garage which was Kenne Bell Supercharger Oil. I read it's compatible and will work with Autorotor, Opcon, Kenne Bell, Lysholm, Eaton, Ubercharger, TRD, Magnuson, Jackson Racing, Magna Charger, and Whipple twin screw superchargers as well. Basically rated for all twin screw and roots style superchargers.

      @@EvanTheMenace it almost looked thicker than the delco stuff, the delco stuff is clear im about to change it again, cause you cant expect to get all that shit out with the syringe first try.

      @@GatsCreationMotorworks Yeah, the Kenne Bell Supercharger Oil is definitely thicker and has a blue color oil to it. That's different then the normal AC Delco fluid you can buy. The bottle says it has special additives that helps with anti-wear extreme pressures and rpm lubricants for the supercharger. Reading up on it online, there website states "Off the shelf oils DO NOT contain the special anti-wear additive package found in the Kenne Bell Supercharger Oil." I feel like you getting a lot better fluid for whatever the price of the bottle may be. Plus, it won't hurt the blower just helps keep things lubricated from the harsh pressures and high rpms our blowers may see. I would definitely go back in there and change it out again and put fresh fluid in. Kenne bell states "For normal use, we recommend changing the supercharger oil every 12,000 miles. Severe use will require more frequent changes." I know for a fact I need to go back and do this to mine again. What I would do is put new Kenne Bell Supercharger fluid in once and after a few thousand miles go back and remove that fluid. After that (second time) put new fluid in and hopefully then you'll have removed all that old fluid and have new fluid recirculating inside the blower. It's tedious but I'd rather do it and know the supercharger oil has been changed!

    I got an 2000 xj8 which kept dying and i got it tested at autozone and the test came back as a bad alternator. Im guessing changing the alternator is basically the same from xj8 to xjr right?

    • @EvanTheMenace
      @EvanTheMenace  9 місяців тому

      Correct! All models from 98-03 whether xj8, xjr, vaden plas, etc. Share common parts, not all but some parts are basically the same!
