  • I made this video to share with you on what I had to do to get my truck ready to pass the Smog Check. I had to do a Drive Cycle to reset my truck's computer and to get the system ready. Sometimes more than one drive cycle is necessary to get your vehicle ready for a smog inspection. In my case the emissions where completed after performing one drive cycle except for the Evaporative System. For a Drive Cycle follow these Steps:
    1. Make sure the gas level is over a quarter tank and not passing three quarters of a tank.
    2. Vehicle must sit for 8 hours or until engine is cold before starting it (Best time is in the morning time)
    3. Make sure the key is not left in the ignition prior to starting the vehicle.
    4. After starting the vehicle turn on the Air Conditioner and the Rear Defroster and let it idle for 2 1/2 minutes.
    5. Take the vehicle to a long stretch road or highway and step on the gas pedal half ways until you reach the speed of 55mph.
    6. Hold steady for 3 minutes and take your foot of the gas pedal. Without braking or down shifting let the vehicle coast to under 20mph.
    7. After the vehicle speed drops to under 20mph, Step on the gas pedal 3/4 way (Passing half way) until you reach the speed of 55pmh for 5 minutes.
    8. Without braking or shifting release the gas pedal and let the vehicle coast until under 20mph. If possible let it come to a stop.
    That completes the Drive Cycle.
For the EVAP System to complete I had to start my truck in the morning and let warm up for 10 minutes, Then I drove my truck in stop and go traffic and on the freeway for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. I repeated this procedure multiple times until the EVAP was completed. Vehicles are different, Some may require less driving and some may require more driving. I my case I had to repeat this procedure 4 times.
