I am a 7/10 on the ACES test and I suspect an 8 but have no solid proof other than what I’m taking as hints. I cannot remember a time when my body has not activated in fight/flight/freeze. I’m always tense, anxious, on edge and ready to go. My husband thought it was incredible how I can pop out of bed and have all the energy in the world immediately. It was off. I get massages and the lady would tell me to relax and then quickly say, “oh you can’t can you”. I have had IBS since about 19-20 years old and I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at age 34 or 35. I’m now 40 and finally linking this all together and to say I’m truly amazed is an understatement. Thank you for all your hard work making these videos so we can all heal!

This video has been so helpful. I was diagnosed with POTS and generalized anxiety disorder following a big infection I got about a year ago. Ever since my nervous system has been incredibly dysregulated, although I believe it has been my entire life. I've also been stuck in a derealization/disassociation state since that infection. My goal is to heal my nervous system and hopefully get unstuck

I have early stress with articulation disorder, hearing problems, speech language delays, gross motor skill, enlarged adenoids making my speech unable to be understood by others. Chronic UTI’s, urethral surgery at age 3. My infant brothers death, my mothers deep depression, dysfunctional inter generational trauma. My mothers constant drive to fix me and forgot to enjoy me. The constant evaluations testing, remediations, psychiatric evaluation. The attachment bond between me and my mother and her just seeing my problems but not seeing me and treating me like an abnormal child throughout my development through out my teenage years. Which led to anger towards my mother, depression, anxiety which just led to more treatment, meds, therapy, family therapy, mothers depression treatment, my behavior just led to more exclusion from family. Leading mother to contact dcf and wanting me removed and the trauma that occurred when being removed. My mother placed all the problems on me that my behavior was the problem. Living in a shelter, group home, feelings of abandonment from my family. Not feeling safe in my own skin and not trusting others or feeling safe, and not fitting in and disliked by others. Being bullied as a kid. My mother was angry with me not understanding why i couldn’t fix my problems. I was 17. My relationship with my mother no bond or lack of. I have IBS, constipation, brain tumors (meninginoma, acoustic neuroma, brain surgery, epithelia flat atypia, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Raynouds disease, spine issues injuries., iron, vitamin d deficiency, thiamin. I still do not feel safe in my own skin and don’t trust feel safe with people. My mom is a dismissive attachment style and covert traits, while I complex ptsd, and some traits of bpd

I didn’t want you to be left with negativity for having expressed yourself. It’s… not a nice feeling, and makes you not really want to do it again, which is sad, and damaging to your ability to heal…
Plus, I understand… I believe I’m the same out of myself and my two older siblings. I’m not really doing amazingly, but I’ve at least made the decision to face my trauma and try to heal it. My sister has acknowledged, but she struggles a lot with follow-through (likely because of her own struggles with trauma responses and freeze), and I’m not sure my brother even understands what the word trauma means, or its importance, despite having admitted and been sort of diagnosed with having it. But again, his own responses tend to lead to him sort of floating off into his head about other stuff rather than being rooted in the reality of what happened and what it’s done to him. He can hardly really see himself, it seems. It’s a bit sad…😔 But I can’t rescue them… I have to focus on my own healing, and share what I know only when I’m more resourced and capable. Then it’s up to them to make their decisions.

I worked with teenagers. That is so true parents are disconnected, have their own trauma inter generational trauma. It is true we push psychotropic meds as young as three. Insurance plays a big part paying professionals not enough money., and creating problems,. Providers not wanting to deal with insurance and choosing not to take insurance leading many with early childhood trauma inability for care except through you tube. The amount of lobbyists in Washington protecting insurance and big pharma. If we keep people sick more revenue. Healthcare cancer industry is big business. If we are well and we cure diseases there is no need for doctors, hospitals, or medications less money income.. millions of dollars lost sad but true.
Seeing the difference between my brother in laws connection in healthy way with his children versus the way we grew up.,For example on vacation my family was going for a hike my nephew getting us into competing with each other inspiring us, etc. my brother in law noticed this commented on this to my nephew and the positive impact he had on us as a family on this walk and how he praised his son. Most of us don’t get this praise and attunement. My sister can’t do this due to inter generational trauma and how we were brought up, but her husband who had a healthier attachment could see this. It amazed me to recognize what he did. My nephew is lucky to get this attunement and healthy bonding at least from one parent.
Our Poor children with severe trauma who are drugged at a young age with psychotropics to numb their behavior s then to focus on their trauma and healing it. So so sad!! I work in a psych inpatient hospital. Our children. We fail to adequately train our staff and pay them.

I notice at times as I continue to heal that I feel “childish” in some ways - I want to play, goof around, even play wrestle with my partner, and find myself going back to foods I used to eat when I was younger. I even feel like my voice is higher pitched at times and can’t tell why. It doesn’t feel much like a “regression”as I feel that now my life is stable and i feel supported by friends / community which hasn’t been true until recently. Is this related to the rewiring of the NS and is a normal thing that happens when we begin to heal?

@@beckymm1989 I don’t see it changing. How? I work in psych. On in inpatient psych ward . I work with children, teenagers, adults, older adults and geriatric patients and some dementia. Our patients lack coping skills. Medications and ECT are our primary means. But they don’t get better sometimes for a while but they lack the resources and our community mental health care lack the resources and education to get at the root cause and learn how to heal most people have no idea about Irene Lyons, Bessel van der Kolk and their work. We are not equipped to deal and insurance wants to pay as little as possible. Mental health can’t keep their workers with the amount we are paid. We only make $5 more then people working at Wendy’s or McDonald’s or Walmart and some of our patients are combative and volatile. Compiled with the low pay environment we work in and some injuries staff has sustained on the job and only getting paid 60% of pay while out of work. We have hardly enough staff and can’t keep staff leading to an increase in more volatile, physically and mentally ill patients and low staffing levels. How are we supposed to care for our patients, we can’t. Maybe in the private sector with providers who do not accept insurance and are out of pocket only. Most of our patients are on disability with limited financial resources and are not able to access these resources. You tube offers some education but most online courses are not affordable to those on a fixed income. Obviously nothing is free and providers need to get paid but our mental health system is a revolving door. If our system worked our patients wouldn’t keep coming back year after year. But maybe that’s the point. We are a business that needs to make a profit. Where and how is our system changing it hasn’t trickled down to the patients? Why is dbt therapy inaccessible to patients. Dbt therapists do not take insurance and a network defeincy needs to be obtained and you have to pay the provider and insurance determines at what rate to reimburse you not what the provider charges. What will our society be like when children has been medicated since the age of 5 become adults. How has these meds impacted their brains. Mental health treatment is not accessible to most (the right kind of treatment that actually focuses on healing the trauma)

And I have a habit of 'escaping' so I've been unconsciously manifesting illness and viruses and sicknesses in order to be able to escape life, people waking up etc etc and so idk if sleeping or passing out is a form of escape or its better for me. @@Siobhan-o5q, Jen here again. While I'm not able to say what's happening with you personally, what comes to mind reading about your experience with your skin and with falling asleep is the importance of growing regulation and capacity. In this nervous system work (and related somatic approaches), there is often a lot of emphasis on feeling sensations and "letting things out". The part that doesn't get talked about as much is that we need to have enough capacity and regulation to stay present while this is happening, and to integrate the shifts that may happen.
