Veteran film director Sugathapala Senarath Yapa has passed away.
Sugathapala Senarath directed the films Hanthane kathawa, Sama, Daskon and Pembara Madhu, Induta Mal Mitak.
He was known as the pioneer of youth cinema in the 70s.
He, who had been ill for some time, passed away yesterday (25) at his home in Batuwatte.
Born in Eraluwa village, Akuressa Maluduwa, he started his film journey with the movie Hanthane Kathawa. He introduced characters like Vijaya Kumaratunga, Dharmasena Pathiraja, Vijaya Dharmasree, Bertie Jayasekara, Bertie Gunasekara to cinema.
