My pleasure, brother! Woo!!
"Shawn Lane is by far the greatest guitarist ever"
-Buckethead
GOATS recognize GOATS.
ua-cam.com/video/BQPV-zwclMA/v-deo.html
This might be the only time I would disagree with Buckethead
Facts!
@@dm3917 people dont realize how actually insane Shawn was. objectively the greatest players of all time
If you like classical music and jazz fusion i think any one would like shawn better. And his vibrato is still unmatched
They’d both say to each other “you win” they’re that humble
Agreed!!
Dude.. I think buckethead would def say that but .. not in English..
Lane would be wrong. He smokes all comers, including the venerable Buckethead.
and i say shawn wins…he is that good.
@@vanguard4065i love seeing you all over shawn videos 😃
R.I.P. Shawn Lane
Amen!!
Hes dead? I just heard of him
@@fourteencrows1244 he died in 2003 for your information
Shawn was such a complete player with so much facility. I was amazed at those tap harmonics. But buckethead just hits me in the feels every time. It’s like he puts his whole heart into playing
the fact that shawn was suffering from crippling arthritis, but still was better than most fast players makes this even more interesting!
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact Shawn was also really really good at piano too.
Yes!!...a music prodigy through and through. Such a shame he's no longer with us.
I love both of them..... But Shawn Lane is beyond everything...
I'm sure Big B would (and has) respectfully agree. Woo!!
Buckethead is my favorite musician of all time. But... Shawn is just on another level, another plane of musical existence. No one can touch Shawn.
uhhhh....ever heard of Jeff Beck? Jus' sayin'....Speed and shreddin' ain't the end all be all.
@@stevehatchett6636 Is this a serious comment?
why yes, Mark it is a serious comment.@@witzYT
@@stevehatchett6636 I would ask that you really listen to Shawn, furthermore listen to what gifted players say about him in general. Beck has some cool tricks and I'm not knocking him as a player, Shawn lane was easily one of the most intelligent gifted musicians of all time and I'm sure with some digging into his discography you might feel similarly.
@@witzYT I'm not knocking Shawn either...I don't recall saying I didn't enjoy his music. Ya see this is the glory of music, there are so many gifted artists creating all kinds of good music that it is OK not to like what someone else might like to the same degree/level the other person does...that's all I'm saying....I enjoy all kinds of music. And, when you boil it all down, I think we are saying the same thing.
I am glad they were dueling each other, if they were cooperating in shredding audience off they would blow the whole planet! Rest in Peace Shawn, you were a one of a kind and definitely one of the best, and may you get healthy once again Big B, you are and you always will be my favorite guitarist :D
"press start" Nice touch!
I wonder if I put 'press return/enter' that some people might've tried pressing it haha
You always surprise me with your editing skills, mate. This looks great!
Thank you, friend. Thats very much appreciated! Woo!!
As someone from Memphis that sat in front of Shawn lane many times i cant shake his presence. Love buckethead as well and listen to him often.
Well, like Shawn said, you have to anger.....angle your hand to play these and I think Buckethead understood it - he took Herbie, "the angry head" in to his hand and thus revealed the secrets of the angered hand - the rest is history! On a more serious note, I miss Shawn Lane and this cool video made me really sad to realize that so many people these days don't even know who Shawn Lane was!
Ah the untold origins of Herbie, I like it haha
And indeed, crazy that people don't know Shawn (and Buckethead too), but yet millions know that dude with the tattoos on his face talking about wobble wobble butts, ridiculous.
@@NatterNet Yes, my thoughts exactly! Perhaps Buckethead could let Herbie take care of the wobble wobble butts crowd, just this time? I'm sure Herbie could and would do it, I mean in the Re-Animator those severed heads could fly and "take care" of people, so if anything, the wobble wobble butt crowd should thank Buckethead for taking care of Herbie these days and not letting him "fly around" them doing his "business" - we know how it would end for them! Long live Buckethead, Herbie and Shawn Lane too! Woo!!!
Haha the mention of re-animator always takes me back to that scene with the woman on the slab and the severed head, good lord haha Woo!!
@@NatterNetHah haa yes, that's a great scene and now imagine if it had been Herbie instead of dr. Hill! Woooooooo, indeed!!!!
Man, this is an incredible video brother, talk About hitting right in the feels. That first switch when epilogue for Lisa started was beautiful... Then Shawn shredding some lead by doing only tap harmonics melted my brain.. love both these guys so much.. They both are the GOAT... Co-goats if you will haha WOOO!
Thank you, brother. I knew you'd appreciate it! "Co-GOATS" haha I like it! That tap harmonic thing melted my brain too, so in the pocket its awesome! Woo!!
And the winner is.........me! For getting to watch and listen to both and enjoying another brilliant production from Natter Net! Thanks again! WOO!🐐🐐
.
Thank you, friend. Woo!!
This editing is amazing! 🤩 Shawn Lane will always be my number 1 favourite and RIP. But I discovered Buckethead before Shawn and they both have technique, precision and play some of the most moving/emotional instrumental music out there! Not to mention, Buckethead was the first I heard use all kinds of effects with great feel and is superbly unique from the rest! I love them both 😃 I wouldn’t be where I am with guitar today if it weren’t for them! 🎸💫
Very well said my friend!
This is awesome. 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for the upload. 🤗🤗
Thank you, friend. Much appreciated! Woo!!
I used to see Shawn at the poplar lounge and he always was an amazing guy, super humble and then he'd play and I guess most didn't get what a true badass this guy was. I haven't head another like him. I do love bucket head .
Allan Holdsworth wins! Flawless Victory!!! Nah I am just kidding. At the level they are both so unique they are equally amazing!! Fun vid👍
Tho I truly admire SL's incredible technique & mastery of theory, I can't connect with his music in the way I do with BH. There's just something magical about Big B's playing that makes the emotions come thru on such a deeply personal level & the only player I could listen to endlessly without getting bored. Woo!!
Yeah man, my top 3 has always been Bucket, Jimmy Page and probably Shawn, but Bucket will always be the top, the above and beyond for me. Unmatched. Woo!!
i feel the same way Jason !
bucket sounds scratchy and stiff smh
Objectively, you're more likely to find something you enjoy in Buckethead's discography than you are in that of Shawn Lane (disregarding the fact that Buckethead has WAY more albums out).
They're both god-tier players; however, Buckethead is like a "Jack of all trades, master of none" whereas Shawn Lane decided to forgo that versatility in favor of mastering the aspects of his craft that he deemed most important. I remember someone saying he could pick up just about any instrument and know how to play it. However, he was a Jazz-fusion guitarist whose playing style took inspirations from niche genres like Qawwali (islamic sub-genre); consequentially, his music is "harder to digest" and fans of his work consist mostly of musicians who're able to understand the technical prowess necessary to play the songs. That isn't to say that nobody enjoys his music intrinsically, but Shawn Lane is indubitably a niche guitarist whom people are unlikely to know unless they're really well-read musically.
So which songs would you put up against the likes of Illusions, GYB, Gray Pianos etc? I have never heard a good Buclethead song that compares at all..
zaccyo I was gonna reply to you here, but I already did in another post. I’m the one who recommended Mount Shasta :)
@@johnp.smithasimpleman7281 hello again man!! Really liked that tune. Thanks so much:) Shawn is my favourite musician of all time:) hope all is well !!
zaccyo You’re welcome man! Buckethead is my favorite musician of all time, I’m always happy to recommend some good tunes! I also think Shawn is Bucket’s favorite musician as well, they were very good friends in real life and he called Shawn the greatest player that ever lived, I definitely agree! :)
This is amazing! There is no winner, they are both incredible and magnificent guitarists of all time 😌🔥🤘. Woo!!
Absolutely! The only winners are us for getting to listen! Woo!!
That was amusing. I'm so grateful to have seen both of them on stage several times. If you have not heard Shawn play the piano it's really something to behold. They are both amazing.
I think it's best to have a second fight, and so on.
I agree!! Woo!!
Damn. Imagine if Shawn were still alive? An actual battle could have happened!!
I know, right? The G2. The world would've surely imploded. Woo!!
they are both Endboss super-villain-hyper level,..to me buckethead wins, with a stylepoint
Haha End Boss indeed!!
What an epic battle! I think Big B would enjoy this!!
Thank you, friend. I think so too, I'd like to think it would make him smile. He'd also say there's no way he could match Shawn, being how humble he is and all.
Gentle souls, wicked fingers, we all win this one. Can't remember the first song Buckethead played on this video.
It’s really a shame that the rumors of Shawn and Bucket doing an album together never came to fruition.
Yeah man, in 96 and 03 especially, they planned to do it but just never happened and then shawn passed. Can't imagine how wild and brilliant it would've been. Damn!
There are guitar players, geniuses , and then there are guys who are guitar masters. Guys who bend the will of the guitar. Own it. If u take away for technology - there are only a few. Chet Atkins. Les Paul Hank Garland. Roy Clark. Jimmy Hendrix. Shawn Lane. David Gilmour. Eddie. Buckethead. Eric Gales. Bonnamassa. Maybe a handful of others.
Both are monsters of the guitar world.
Amen, Alien DNA for sure! Woo!!
so sick... 2 of my favorite guitarists!
Hell yeah!! Woo!!
Technic- Shawn Lane
Feeling- Buckethead
To Be honest, they both travel in the same space. WOO!
Indeed they do. Alien Space. Woo!!
The Master and the Apprentice
Really nice video guys 👌
Thank you, friend! Woo!!
Buckethad woz student of Paul Gilbert...
Imagine this scenario for a second.....
Shawn Lane, Buckethead and Jason Becker on the same stage!!!
I call this dream the real G3.
A glorious fantasy booking right there! Woo!!
@@NatterNet
That's right my friend!!!
It would be the end of time...
din pacate nu se va putea niciodată...Jason Becker s-a imbolnavit si Shawn Lane a murit demult...Singurul care trăiește este marele Buckethad
FLAWLESS VICTORIES!!
Great vid, thanks! Both are incredible.
Which gig is that footage from of Shawn lane at 5:09? That’s some mind-blowing stuff
2:53 shawn melts me like cheese between bread
Awesome work and great idea. Personally, I think they are very similar, but totally different at the same time. I think Bucket is so much more than just a shredder.
For sure, totally diverse, both can/could play anything. Who knows what Shawn would be doing now if he were around, Im sure it would be awesome though.Woo!!
Shawn Lane is not only a shredder bro.... He had insane musical knowledge and feel that Bucket never had. I love both of them anyway.
As far as technique goes they're both equal here... but Buckethead is far more diverse n versatile he has a more well rounded style, luv Shawn Lane but he's abit squared... therefore Buckethead wins!
Shawn Lane was Buckethead's biggest influence. Adapted a lot of Lane in his playing. His hyper speed, out sounding legato is totally a Lane trademark. Buckethead fingertaps, Lane never did. Moreover, the material Lane did with Jonas Hellborg and Jeff Sipe (Stellar Rays, Rice with the Angels etc) in the mid 90's was by far his best work and would be a better example in a debate like this. Deep improvised solos, fluently, in every style you can think of (including middle eastern). With way edgier songs than his "Grey Pianos Flying" era of the 80's, which all 80's songs sound cheesy production wise (electric drumkits etc)..... Lane was a great guitarist/pianist while singing improvised leads at the highest level on both instruments. Buckethead is an awesome guitarist for sure but, Lane was the greatest musical genius I can think of..
Shawn Lane: Allan Holdsworth! My idol, the greatest!
Allan Holdsworth: Not really!
😭
Shawn is faster, but Buckethead IS THE MASTER. B's writing is way superior.
Two guitarists who sit at the top table.Shawn Lane was just simply extraterrestrial, wonderful, awesome guitarist as Mr Carroll would agree.Dont like to say who's the best ever, but tell me someone better??☘
I give the props to Shawn Lane. He is the OG and GOAT of guitar shredding and has been shredding the guitar like this way back in the 70s with the rock group Black Oak Arkansas. He did this way before buckethead was even born.
Both are/were fenomenal guitar players. They particularly show that when they are not shredding.
Tough to choose a winner but whoever it is, Ralph Macchio is waiting for him....
Put him in a body bag!!
Never been a huge fan of Shawn Lane's music. Technically he is one of the greatest ever though, just surreal. I've also heard he was one of the nicest guys ever. But this sounded interesting, and I shall give him another chance. Maybe my taste has matured. Woo!!
Personally I think his live stuff was far superior than his studio albums, especially with hellborg & sipe. Thats where the real genius of Shawn came out for me.
Would love to have seen the 2 of them together somewhere just talking one-on-one and of course, the album that never happened would've been glorious. Woo!!
Thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to check out his live stuff.
Being a Memphian myself, I can tell you personally that Shawn was a very gentle, and kind soul. Very approachable and enjoyed meeting people.
Gracias for the fun content
My pleasure, friend. Woo!!
Not to take one inch from Buckethead but I believe Shawn was a little more advanced and ran a little deeper, He may have sensed his days were numbered. They're both astounding.
Really cool video make but also a sweet tribute story I think. Woo!
Absolutely, sir! Woo!!
Going to have to check out some Shawn Lane stuff now...damn you :)
Enjoy the glorious rabbit hole. Woo!!
Have to go with shawn lane rip you have inspired alot of musicians including me and prove anything possible with hard work and love for music
Definitely an inspiring musician and human
Buckethead would totally respect your opinion and agree
INKRIBLEE!!!!!THANKSS THANKSS NATTER!!!!BUCKET&SHOWN TOPS GUITARSSSS!!! GRANDE TRABALHO AMIGO PARABELS PELA PRODUÇAO!!!#BRAZIL
In my opinion Shawn is better at technique and melodic stuff, but melancholic part of bucket is unbelievable. Anyway these 2 are in the GOAT tier
I vote for buckethead since he was almost able to play the song that shawn titled to be impossible to play
A wise person once said about Buckethead's music "It feels just like home", Imo BH has far too much spectacular material to be matched by anyone, SL was a furiously skilled guitarist RIP, " The only winner is the audience" - NN, fun vid Woo!
I agree from start to finish, especially the woo part haha Woo!!
Can you please give me a few 'spectacular' Buckethead songs to check out?
zaccyo Mount Shasta, that’s all I’m saying...
@@zaccyo Everyone's "spectacular" can be drastically different since it's all so subjective, but here's a couple you'll probably like - Coupon, Midnight Sun, Hold Me Forever or ER (last 1/2 the song), A long Days Walk, Look Up There,
Inferno, Colma (entire album) Pikes 13,43,78, this is a very minuscule sample of a massive body of work
@@johnp.smithasimpleman7281 thank you my friend:) really enjoyed that one!!
This is awesome 🤩
Thank you, friend. Long live the GOATS. Woo!!
Was this really only 6 minutes long? This video took me on a freaking journey. Damn. xD
I know, right? I could listen to these guys on a 24 hour loop haha Woo!!
Ask Buckethead who wins. He'll say Shawn.
Because he's as humble as they come. But with the sheer volume of music and quality of that music Buckethead has surpassed everyone.
@@NatterNet Someone so brilliant, you must agree with him when he acknowledges that Lane is the greatest player of all time, volume of work notwithstanding. He's simply right.
when i listen Lane first time he change the shapes ...in pentatonic and he have licks but different of any licks is in pentatonic now over 50 years is hard to do something unic.....but have a speed ...and i was thinking wow what scale use,,what shpae what mode combine with arpeggios but was an exercise in pentatonic shame me..but was a speed gizuz christ..and buckethead 400 albums only in muzic, soundtracks , video games etc,,,paintings...a real inovator of new age..
Buckethead ! The Master. Better solos, riffs, music, not to mention the gettup...go Buckethead.
Best channel
Haha thank you, friend! Woo!!
i love this format!! more please :)
suggestion: what about making use of the health bar?
More to come...I guarantee if I showed someones health decreasing the comments would be filled with snowflakes haha increasing might work tho. Thanks for the suggestion. Woo!!
Ha this was pretty cool. Old school Mortal Kombat style :)
I appreciate Shawn Lane for his talent (or should I say genius) and inspiration but for me, Buckethead wins this one.
It's a shame but I fear that some people may dislike because they don't appreciate that's it's not really a battle and also that they don't know you so may misunderstand the point of the video which is more to show off in a fun way what these two are capable of and a big nod to the respect we have for both of them and they had for each other.
I'm a Shawn Lane guy, but gotta admit this KFChicken man is quite decent too.
What is the first song that Buckethead is playing?
Abraços from Brazil.
ua-cam.com/video/LwKAsjsQGvc/v-deo.html
Shawn Lane played in my living room in the early 80s.
Pls make a Paul Gilbert/ Jason Becker/ Marty Friedman video
Thank you for the suggestion, friend! Woo!!
who won? everyone that watched the video! thank you again NatterNet
Buckethead vs Paul Gilbert!
100% guaranteed! Woo!!
Buckethead is very good player and musician but Mr Shawn lane was simply on another level
Técnicamente shaw lane deja pequeño a cualquier otro guitarrista.. hasta govan parece un niño al lado de el.. y eso que govan es un dios con la guitar XD
Shawn Lane... no doubt! Fastest and the TBE...
Sir natter..I cannot comment on this one i love them both each unique personally..If you did say bhland vs.wes boreland i could or buckethead vs machinehead i could or giant robot vs rockemsockem robot i could
What is the name of the opening riff that BH started with.....would love to hear the whole thing...
Its called 'Scraps' taken from here ua-cam.com/video/LwKAsjsQGvc/v-deo.html (his best show ever)
Natter Net...thank you....first time I heard that one....gave me goose bumps with that melody...woo!
Sorry 4 Buckethead but Shawn Lane is the worst opponent that can happen in a one on one guitar contest.. i mean 4 everyone S.L. GOAT R.I.P. Genius.
Sure would love to see the time he apparently embarrassed Ted Nugent on stage in a guitar battle. Ted must've went hunting for weeks afterwards.
This. He's on a completely different level. From everyone I've heard, and I've heard them all, I would say that only Holdsworth could really hang with him (and vice versa.) Buckethead is the man tho, awesome player!
Of course Shawn is much greater. And Shawn is also a good pianist. His jazz fusion tunes are in sublime area.
Ehhh Shawn.. he uses less bs on the kickboard.. Shawn! Head NEEDS to go head to head with SRV..!! N Dave Mustaine. Megadeath!! But Buckethead ...needs to come out , he'd make much much more$$ . Good video
Wondering if the rumour of them having worked in the studio once or twice is true . Would love to hear that . One thing is sure is that bucket love for sl made him a better player , which means better music for us mortals
No they never recorded anything together unfortunately ua-cam.com/video/BQPV-zwclMA/v-deo.html - History of Buckethead & Shawn Lane
Shawn lane is buckethead inspiration
Absolutely ua-cam.com/video/BQPV-zwclMA/v-deo.html
epic :D
Woo!!
Bucket would be the first to admit that Shawn is a better player, both are out of this world amazing
How is the name of the video of Shawn playing at 3:00 thanks!
on YT as 'Jonas Hellborg, Shawn Lane, & Doug Klug @NAMM' Woo!!
@@NatterNet thank you!
Obaj świetni!
Shawn jedzie klasycznie.
Buckethead klasycznie i dziwnie.
Bardzo trudno wybrać zwycięzcę.
Buckethead love so much shawn lane, he studied whit shawn
Is Bucket Head Joel Hoesksa
Shawn Lane kicked the bucket.
Is S L had a look or a gimmick then he would be the undisputed champ of shredding. Period.
He is man. Everyone who knows, knows. Shawn was something else.
Please another video called Allan vs. Holdsworth!
Haha indeed, look out for him in this vid ua-cam.com/video/S-YEq4QPQuI/v-deo.html Woo!!
Next round:
Eric Johnson vs. Steve Vai
Would be cool, but I think Satch and Vai are kinda notorious for having vids taken down (well, they were years ago, not sure about recently), but Eric for sure would be cool to do! Woo!!
In my humble opinion...
Shawn Lane understood melody.
Buckethead sounds like a Casio-based video game.
And they’re both that great🤘woo🤘and we rejoice and enjoy woo🤘
and...Woo!!
i need a cig after this video, wtf
Hey Natter!
Which is the bh track at 4:50 ?
Computer Master. Woo!!
@@NatterNet thanks brother!
Love your work!!
El alumno supero a el maestro
Sooo much fun!!! Buckethead wins all🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Woo!!
They're completely different guitarists, in my opinion. Shawn Lane played such beautiful melodies, sometimes at blinding speeds. Buckethead is more experimental and innovative when it comes to technique. Both are great in their own right and they shouldn't be competing against one another. Of course, I doubt this video is completely serious anyway. It's fun to watch and listen, particularly for those who aren't familiar with Shawn Lane.
