Great video and test again thanks for your honesty nice one Phill 🍺👍👍
Cheers Brian have a great weekend 👍🏻
Great video as ever. Many thanks.
Cheers Dene!
Thanks Phil, I Have been looking at these.
Your welcome.
Delighted to see this review....just bought one too..
Cheers Brian 👍🏻 how are you finding it so far?
@@PhillWyattProjects Hi Phill, thanks for the reply...I haven't used it yet....But when I press the trigger it feels like it has a lot of power in it (more than my other cordless combis) A bit like you, I strictly didn't need it but my local Aldi has been selling a lot of their power tools at a reduced price in the last few weeks and I sometimes can't help it but buy the blinking things even though I have a similar one already! Recently I bought the combi drill in your video for 30 euro, the pro impact driver (in your other video) for 25 euro and the pro angle grinder (30 euro). To me at those prices they are amazing bargains ...and when you already have the batteries and charger...it's hard to walk past these deals. Add in a 3 year warranty and it's a done deal.
@@typhoontim125 I agree Brian. I can't help buying them at these prices even if I don't always need them. The brushless grinder seems to have a bit of a flimsy on button I noticed but it will probably be fine. It seems very slim and useful. I might review it soon.
@@PhillWyattProjects Yes, the on/off switch seems very cheap...too thin and doesn't seem to sit right. Will hopefully be ok though. As with the drill I haven't used the grinder but when I turn it on you can definitely feel the higher spin speed (and power?) compared to the brushed 40v one. It also is very neat and well finished (apart from that switch) and with a couple of discs included and a nice case, another bargain!. Look forward to your review. Hard to find any other reviews of it but I believe the Lidl/Parkside Performance Cordless Grinder is exactly the same machine under the skin and I saw a couple of good reviews of that one albeit in German and French!
@@typhoontim125 I agree Brian. When I showed the brushless grinder to my dad he was amazed how slim and light it is. I don't use grinders often but for convenience and the low price I had to buy it.
Cheers Phil. Shame I don't need any replacement drill, as mentioned before that I have 2 of the big 5amp active batteries and a charger.
I know what you mean sometimes I see a tool and want it but just don't need it. Cheers Dene 👍🏻
the battery is 2.5Ah when used in 40V mode, 5.0Ah only in the 20V mode. There are 2 parallel layers of series battery cells, each layer provides 20V at 2.5Ah. These 2 layers are connected in parallel or in series within the tool in order to provide 20V or 40V as required.
Thanks for the info. I don't know much about the insides of these batteries.
The handles on drills were initially intended to stop the torque of the drill from twisting your wrist when an agressive wood bit locks up in timber.
This was a huge problem with Milwaukee Hole Hawg 90° drills which had a lot of power and would throw people from a ladder when drilling ceiling joists for cable access without a sufficient means of gripping the drill.
Everyone now uses them for additional forward force in tough materials which I do myself. Worthwhile though remembering if using a large wood auger bit, drills can bite back.
Good points I didn't know that about their original intended use. Yes they can be dangerous especially when on a ladder. I always use an impact driver when driving in large screws to avoid this problem. I also use Forstner bits when possible as they done seem to have the problem with bite back.
@@PhillWyattProjects Completely agree Phil, Impact Drivers are fantastic, 1st time I used one years back, I couldn't believe the torque out of them. Have to be the best PowerTool of the last 50 years.
I just bought some depth stop forstner bits from Amazon, £4.95 each in sizes from 10mm to 50mm, really good clean cut from them.
Never been a better time for buying tools, the value for money is excellent even with the big brands.
Great channel by the way, cheers.
I need advice on drill and driver bits Phil. I buy cheapish, I buy the better standards but I never am happy (remembering I am only a few years in to my first hammer lift and am very new at this. Lol).
Hi Dene, I would suggest buying separate sets. So get a set of masonry bits, wood bits, and general purpose bits, and a dedicated set of driver bits. The ones in a pack with a selection tend to not be as good. I buy cheapish ones too although I think it's a false economy. When I buy the good ones they seem to last much longer.
@@PhillWyattProjects OK Phil. I will do that. Many thanks for the advice.
Hi,
What about the low speed?
Is comfortable to start screwing?
Because, I bought it, and when I start to press the speed control, it doesn't start, then, starts suddenly fast.
What about yours?
Takes a bit of getting used to. You can get a slow start on low speed just takes practice.
Very good 👍
What was the PRICE PLEASE
DRILL ?, Battery?,Charger?
???
Cheers👍🏻 so currently the prices are: Drill £49.99 / 40V battery £26.99 / charger £16.99
Just bought this drill, reduced to £14:99. Now the anxious wait to see if Aldi will ever get any 20/40v. batteries in stock. After contacting the so-called 'customer support' call centre in South Africa, I was told they cannot say if or when they'll re-appear. Obviously Aldi can do nothing about the supply from China but you'd think they could at least stick something on their website - 'we apologise for the inconvenience and assure our customers we are doing everything to rectify the problem', or similar.
Still, the drill can be returned within 60 days if no batteries appear, but I would much prefer a working 40v. drill.
Yes it can be difficult to get the batteries. Have you looked on eBay? You can find new ones on there sometimes.
Thanks Phil. I had a look and yes, you're correct and some at a price not too much above Aldi's price. I wouldn't pay the scalpers' prices though; some are going for £70!
A quick question if you don't mind: I'm 99% sure that you cannot charge the 20/40v. battery on a 20v. charger, is that right? Thank you.@@PhillWyattProjects
It's okay, I answered my own question. After travelling thirty miles I managed to get a 40v. battery but no charger. When back home I stuck it on my Activ Energy 20v. charger with no faith at all, but lo! A full charge after forty minutes. That is of course, the battery already having a two-thirds charge when bought.
Same situation as you. Saw the drill on the off chance and purchased it but now looking for battery and charger.
I checked out the specification on the 20v. and 20v./40v. chargers and they're identical so that may be helpful if you have the 20v. already.
My local Aldi had zero batteries in stock but, 12 miles away in another store, they had bucket loads of both 20s and 40s.
You're not in Essex by any chance?@@ProffyChaos
How much is it!
Only works with the big battery thoe lol
Yes which is a shame although it is a 40V drill.
@@PhillWyattProjects
Would be a bit better if it worked with a 20v battery for over head height work
@@dartman9265 Yes I agree.
I wonder...a comparison video vs your Bosch combi?
Yes I was thinking about that as I also have the Bosch brushless Combi. Although it might be a bit of an unfair comparison with the Bosch being an 18v and the Ferrex being 40v. So I'm not sure if it would be useful to people 🤔
@@PhillWyattProjects The comparison video would be fascinating. Just one thing on the "40v" spec though Phill....I previously bought the brushed/standard Ferrex "40V" angle grinder (the blue one) and it wasn't any more powerful than the standard 20v Parkside equivalent. In fact the RPMs were less (@8500) than the 20v Parkside (@10,000rpm). Then I watched a review video of it and the guy said that the Ferrex wasn't really using 40v, that it was really only a 20v. So saying that they are "40v" might be just a sales pitch from Aldi/Ferrex. You would think that the performance should be much better with a "40v" tool but that isn't necessarily so apparently. So the same may apply to the 40v drill we've bought. But still, a great buy though!!
@@typhoontim125 I see what you mean Brian. It's a bit strange how they have marketed the tools. He's rite about the grinder being a 20v motor. Both the brushless and brushed grinders are both 20v motors. I think sometimes the people that make the listings on the site get confused. I have seen the brushed grinder sold on their site as 40v then also 20/40v. The difference with this brushless Combi Drill is that it is actually a 40v motor because I have tried using it with 20v batteries but they won't work. I'm only guessing that it would be more powerful but you never know. The Bosch might be closer to it than you think 🤔
@@PhillWyattProjects Yes I also tried the 2AH 20v battery with the drill and no power at all. I think the Bosch may well do fairly well against the Ferrex but when you consider the price of the Ferrex, it's a winner, no matter what.
@@typhoontim125 Yes Brian especially when it comes to the batteries. I think the activ energy batteries are around half the price of Bosch batteries which is a big difference.
