Remember there is more to learning how to fight. You must learn how to punch, how to move well if you want to end a fight quickly. We have lots more videos on how to fight with Wing Chun. Please visit our channel. Better yet feel free to leave a comment or a suggestion of what you would like us to film for you. It does not have to be about Wing Chun it can be about any subject related to fighting, how to fight, Wing Chun techniques, or even Wing Chun vs other styles of martial arts. Use elbows in motion similar to answering a phone or combing one's hair to destroy the boxer's punches as they meet your elbow. Twist at the hips to turn the defensive elbow into an offensive elbow. Use body weight to push opponent off balance if he is smaller or continue to slap at eyes while manuevering your hips behind him to smother his eyes and nose as you drop him head first to the ground using your body weight. Great video mates!!

Control the head control the body. The feeling that you are fighting "upside down" can be panic inducing to some, especially untrained persons.

I have to say you present a very valid way of training, and practicing, what martial methods are about. It is a getting back to the essence of what it means, both spiritually and physically. Training for reality is what martial methods should be, but it must always include the means of understanding there is a time to fight and a time to walk away.

    In my utmost humble opinion.
In regards to “ flick my finger in your eye” one has very nice examples of this of Jon” Bone” Jones doing this
“ incidental” eye gouge with an open hand/ palm, and the effect is very apparent, when his opponents do walk into his open( fingers forward) hand position. Vision is key, this is why in many Fighting styles you have stiff arm posts/ frames ( boxing/ Muay Thai) etc that is aimed at blurring and obstructing one’s opponents vision and perception. And it is usually the strike that one doesn’t see, that send you to the canvas/ mat/ floor/ concrete 😖
One has to consider the fact that not every strike leads to an instant knockout, it is a symphony that is made up of individual parts that end with the crescendo.
“it is the units that complete the whole”
And as depicted, as well as demonstrated in this video, Wing Chun has many of these concepts implemented into its system. It is all about ones ability to comprehend as to when, to utilize correctly.
    Another great video Mr Philips
    “ Emancipation through application”
    Sincere regards.
Fellow martial artist and Kung Fu brother.

I live and work in one of the most dangerous cities in the US, I have a lot of training, but I still watch these videos and practice these techniques, many of which I know, but practice builds muscle memory, you can't plan an attack, you can monitor body language, In my line of work you learn to do so very fast, now I'm not a tough guy, I got over my days of if a person wants to fight for no reason doing so, now I only use what I need when I need it, and I train in many martial arts, also go to classes sent by employer to gain levels of fight experience, once expert I will be training others, we are taught least amount of force necessary, but not to fight, if we have the attack do so quick and damaging fast, it's a life or death situation for us. I'm certain plenty of guys could beat my ass but all the training I've had and non stop practice, well daily to at least 4 days a week keeps you sharp and you never know what is coming but need to know how to react to anything you can think of, most ppl really can't fight, but with all I know I e come across a couple guys no bigger than me and they aren't trained fighters, yes they were high on crack or meth , some pcp, but I remember one guy I used everything I think I've ever know and was still the worst fight I've been in and eventually he wore out before me but he was taking blows that ppl usually fold under, even pressure points weren't having any affect, a taser, he pulled the barbs out so no chance with that. Never seen anything like it, part of it was the drugs and part of it was he was a dude who was a soldier like every person should strive and believe to be, there is no giving up, no rules, fight for your life, we both had some broken ribs, he broke his hand from to many closed fist punches but once it was done he gave me zero problems and respected the fact I stayed in it no matter what, I have no choice its all out of 90% I would die if he were tj get to any of my weapons, and I took several hits making sure to he didn't get them. These videos are great and for anyone who needs some help with some skills pay close attention and practice, he is a true fighter and his videos are as real as they get but don't watch and think ok next time someone tries me I'll do this, this takes practice, get a bag or even a friend to spar with them. You have to practice real life events don't just try to emulate the videos, watch as much as you need and continue to build that muscle memory, many martial arts take to the sand forms of either watch body language and if you know they are coming strike first and fast, go for areas to do damage as in stun them enough to get as much in as it takes to get out safe, once a person is down, don't stomp them get out of their, away from the threat but situational awareness is huge you need to know who could be with them and others see fights, won't know either party and will want to sneak cheap shots in on either person. Don't look for a fight because it will happen and it may be your last, get in and get out, don't even fight if you can back out, it's not being a pussy to walk away it may save your life, where in from everyone has a gun legal or illegal and I mean 10 year old kids to 80 year old woman and they don't want to fight unless they have a group to jump you, they shoot with no thought, are so young they aren't mature enough to realize consequences. If you see someone attempting to pull a gun and you are close try to damage them right away or you may be done, the throat is a quick place to hit, then keep going until you can get the gun and or get away. Love these videos so much real world experience. But you need to practice over and over as many things as you can.

His aura is the "regular normal guy" but smart people have a feeling of "I probably shouldn't mess with him for some reason". Stupid people get to meet the "Not regular guy". Or also that he doesn't have to get into a fight mindset if attacked. He is both the man and the beast at the same time but you wouldn't know it because they are in sinc. Hence the "inner peace", description.

I've been in so many martial arts classes where the teacher says "Punch me in the head." And the dilligent student punches nearly to the head or to the side of the head. If he really wanted to punch you in the head he could because you are not expecting him to do it with speed and power because this is a demonstration. This is precisely why these types of techniques don't work in a real fight. I'm glad you made a point of saying "If somebody ambushes you you're not going to see the punch and you're not going to be able to intercept it." That is true. But when the teacher gets used to people never punching him in the face there is a danger that he might start to believe that his techniques are really working and that he could actually intercept the punches of a heavily built, fast and determined thug in a real situation. A thug who doesn't live by dojo etiquette. Then the teacher might start telling other people that they will be able to intercept the punches of an aggressor in a real, dangerous situation and instead of thinking about the extreme violence that will be required to win the fight or at least escape from it, they are thinking about 'intercepting' or other such technical moves. I do have real experience. If you're being attacked get your guard up, chin down and fight for your life with everything you've got. Good luck.

Excellent video gentlemen. A few points to consider: first off, your demonstration of open-hand counterattacks is most excellent, as closed-fists retaliating against an incoming attack can potentially lead to an injury of the knuckles (if you hit a person in the teeth with closed fists, for example, that person may lose a few chompers but you'll also walk away with lacerations or fractures to your knuckles and hands). Secondly, I'm not sure I like these inside defenses in response to a straight punch: if your opponent throws that punch with speed, there probably won't be enough time to parry that punch to the inside and move in, without that punch landing on at least part of the face or head. Depending on how the punch is thrown, it's best to step to the inside of the attack and deflect punches to the outside of the head as opposed to parrying the punch to the inside and risking it still making contact with the face. So what this means is this: if someone throws a straight hook, the objective is to parry that hook to the outside so that it's deflected away from one's center line, not to the inside where it's still capable of landing on the face/chin/head. This is easier to do if the punch is a hay-maker than a straight line shot. One has to watch the attacker's body language carefully, so that if he/she is angling to throw a straight hook, one has to maintain adequate distance and then if the punch is thrown, parry it to the outside and then move in quickly with a vigilant counterattack. That's how attacks are essentially managed in Aikido and I believe such principles will also work to the benefit of the techniques you're advancing. Hope this is useful! Sincerely, Adil

Another excellent video. We need you to teach some sessions in central London. Not just north London.

Unfortunately our academy is open 7 days a week. So I'm needed there. But we're only 30 minutes from Central London. 😉

Hey man saw your other video in which you taught how to condition your knuckles on a sandbag... I just came across an info that said conditioning your knuckle can give you arthritis when you get older... let us know what's your take on it... bytheway great videos I learned a lot from it...thanks a lot ;)

Great video as ever. Sifu I wanted to ask, did you do a video discussing countering an MMA style takedown?

I did many years ago. I need to do an updated video. Will put it on my list to film.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. One of my top 5 channels, for sure. I have made it required watching for my kids. (On top of training a few times a week, cant learn how to fight just from sitting watching fight videos a couple times😁)
We dont live in the best part of our city either. " But living in fear aint realy livin". Cheers mate, thanks again!

Only the young could be your Uki. I have taught people the same thing and the comment is always "that is amazing why has no one ever taught me that!". All from MMA fighters that don't understand that the type of fights you are describing and the techniques that work there are not the world of sport MMA.

Could you do a video about reflexive punch defenses from non-combat stance? I don't mean controlling situation with your hands being into argument, you just stay with hands down completely not expecting the fight and somebody surprinsingly strikes. How not to get hit when you see a fast punch coming to your face or stomach?
