    First I would stress that EVERYONE needs to be aware of their surroundings constantly! Especially easy targets like lone women/older people. Always let people approaching you see that you notice their presence. Don't let people pause/linger/maneuver in behind you. I will stand out of of the way and let people pass me if I get an uneasy feeling about them behind me. I also often say 'hello' or nod/smile at people passing by. People who are aware of their surroundings make poor targets. Bad guys tend to want to surprise, ambush, or sneak up on you. Don't let them. By appearing alert and ready you will avoid all but the most determined or mentally ill problem starters. Look around constantly and take notice of people's clothing, facial, features, etc...
    Learn how to throw a strike. Learn how to dodge/deflect a strike, and learn a good combination of 5-7 moves that works for you and practice it! If you ever need to get physical you want your combination of strikes to be quick, effective, and second nature. Practice will gain you muscle memory and efficiency. ,Groin, eyes, throat, nose, are all top self-defense targets. Behind the human eyeball is a very thin layer of bone that can be broken with your thumb - you can actually kill a person this way if you have to. Stomping on toes with your heel can work, and breaking fingers can work. Punching/slapping of the ears can rupture the eardrum and be very effective. The human ear can be ripped off with surprisingly little force - around 8 lbs of pressure or the same amount of force it takes to tear a dozen pieces of printer paper. It will leave a lasting impression!
    Im a tall big, guy - my advice to shorter people is to hit hard, surprise is your friend and MOVE YOUR FEET! do not try to go toe to toe with a taller/bigger guy unless he is an unathletic beanpole... Your speed and your reflexes are your best assets as a shorter person. A tall person's movements will be more telegraphed because their body is longer and their movements cover more ground - Im talking fractions of a second, but maybe enough for you to duck, dodge, counter, etc. Their longer frame will take a little longer to recover from throwing a strike as well. With those longer movements comes the potential for greater power and centrifugal force behind the strike so don't get caught. Those big slower developing punches with weight behind them are one-hitter-quitters. A taller guy has a leverage advantage as well and can wrap you up, pick you up and dump you on your head unless you know how to sprawl/defend against grappling. I've sparred (boxing) smaller guys who were much quicker and could stick and move on me pretty well. I've also sparred people that forfeit after a few minutes because they were afraid of getting caught. When a guy is 6'6" 325 it only takes one punch to knock you out, so be careful. In a street fight I tend to start off with a straight kick or two as I close the gap into jab/cross/hook/uppercut territory as I make my way in to grab and physically dominate them. From there I would work a choke, knees from a clinch, or flip them on their head. Fighting isn't pretty, but when the time comes don't be wishy washy. You need to commit to neutralizing the threat as quickly and safely as possible. A determined, calm, confident fighter has already won most of the battle prior to the first punch. Don't start nothin, won't be nothin!

      I read all of that
      -be aware of your surroundings
      -if your shorter have that quick feet
      - be able to strike dodge and deflect
      - there’s a bone behind the eye that can potentially be broken and can seriously take a life (I’d personally avoid that but hey)
      - be careful of those slow punches but pack hella weight those are usually knockoutabble if that makes sense

    Answer to this question would be - it depends. I’m only 5’7”, but am thick and powerful. I also have a high pain tolerance and am no stranger to taking punches. So for me, I never like to be farther than arm’s distance from an aggressive taller man. Preferably even closer. The answer also depends on the seriousness of the threat. If I think someone genuinely wants to cause me harm, I’ll wait for them to step in on me and then stomp their lead knee backwards. If they’re close, eyes, throat, and groin are good to quickly take the fight out of someone. And never forget a shorter man’s secret weapon - headbutt to the chin.

      @@trueblaze344 I fight tall guys most of the time cause I am a short dude. You need to practice wrestling and boxing. It never mattered to me if the guy was tall. Short people can defeat tall guys. You need to know how to counter attacks from tall people. The average joe can't throw a proper fast and powerful punch. The only advantage they got is intimidation. You need to weave or bob away from their punches, forget punching the head, especially if you ain't wearing gloves, attack the legs, get him off balance. Move to his left or right. You need to get past his gaurd and ensure he cannot elbow you in the process. Everybody I ever fought or had a match with was tall. Trust the process, train train train in the most uncomfortable conditions.

Skills combined with fitness and athleticism, will almost always overcome strength and mass. For instance, fighting an in shape, 200 cm basketball player, with any sort of striking ability, would be extremely dangerous in the street. When boxing, I found that 10 kg of muscle was easier to deal with than 5 cm in height. The ability to control distance, using proper foot placement, is possibly the most important skill for a striker.

    I've been to hundreds of demos and seminars over the years (I'm 65) since I started training in 1973. What has always annoyed me is how often the instructor uses a smaller opponent to attack. Duh, wasted another attendance fee and my time.
    I've very rarely, if ever, seen a small instructor (other than myself) give any instruction on how to deal with bigger attackers. You are probably the first to actually have an attacker bigger than yourself while explaining how to deal with a bigger attacker. I can't remember the last time I was threatened by someone smaller than me.
    BTW I'm only 5'4" so you will understand why this is important to me. The only thing on my side is how aggressive I can be, one reason I never drink. If you go in like a madman, and give some pain, it's surprising how often a larger person will back off.
    Also, it's my understanding that bouncers don't like dealing with smaller trouble makers because they've always been the underdog and can be very vicious and tenacious.

    • @ballhawk387
      @ballhawk387 2 роки тому +3

      My thought exactly. Street or bar fighters are generally unsophisticated and undisciplined headhunters, not even thinking about the legs. It doesn't take much force to dislocate a knee, and even a good stomping kick on the shins is very painful. Even just tripping with a low sidekick. Whatever is quickest and easiest. Getting 'em down is the easiest way to escape. Tall people can use this even more effectively against shorter, stockier attacker, given the length advantage.

Maybe its my bodybuildig discipline but he definitely had spasm as soon as I hit him in solar plexus which gave me opportunity to lift him from crotch and armpits. Before the fight ended his teammates and security surrounded us. It suck because I could have landed the final blow while he was on floor. Anyways I'm sure he wont be full of himself again unless he makes a Haftor Bjornson transformation haha.

    As a younger man, i got into a few serious tear ups with some really big geezers, I’m not short, about six foot, but I’ve had to have it with some guys 6.5 and up, I come from a boxing background, my approach to these guys, was what I call, the Jack Dempsey attack, I would roll in and up, starting with a big right hand to the solar plexus, and keep going with a two handed attack, in my experience, I always found really big guys easy, it’s the smaller compact bulldog types, who I always found the toughest, but I also think the big guys don’t have to fight as much as the rest of us

    Excellent analysis, and very instructive! Thanks! I used to spar a "big boy" like your subject; his "wingspan" in terms of his reach enabled him to clock me regularly; I soon learned the only advantage I had was when I could get in close, thereby eliminating his competitive advantage. It took quite a few hits to the head to learn that, though! :)

      Unfortunately not. There was a lot more racism towards Chinese restaurant workers in those days which is why he learnt kung fu. He didn't win them all either. Yes, moving in close takes away his advantage of having a longer reach, which is needed to produce power. He cannot make power up close, but YOU can! So you should make sure you are close enough to him (one to two feet or so, depending on arm length), to take away his advantage and give you the advantage of speed, and take away his ability to attack.

      Bro I want to tell you this guy kinda has it wrong. It's better to stand sideways with your leading side foot in front and your other foot at about a 75 degree angle, in a sideways position. The second thing is KEEP YOUR DISTANCE AND KEEP MOVING. Use your feet as much as you can to wear out the opponents energy and balance, do side kicks in the knees, shins, and round kicks in the kidneys. Do not do push kicks because they can grab your feet unless it's a skip kick. Make sure every strike you use your foot for can snap right back or you can create distance immediately after. Once their energy is lowered their balance will come next, direct their motion to a particular direction by moving in that direction, then strike with your non leading fist in the opposite direction of their movement to tip the scales.

    • @MichaelSmith-ku7ki
      @MichaelSmith-ku7ki 3 роки тому +1

      Nah.. Listen.. Here's what you do shorty. Tall guys keep you out of range. And they're going to win all day.
      So guess what?
      Take a step back OUT of his range. Now he can't reach you either. He has to take step to get you. As soon as you see his foot take that step toward you, use that as you're cue to close the distance and start punching. Trust me, you'll be in a very bad place for him.
      You're more dangerous to him than he is to you at that range because long arms are a disadvantage close so BE AGGRESSIVE throwing punches in bunches and staying on him.
      He's going to want to run / retreat from you. And as long as he's moving backwards, his weight is moving in the wrong direction so he'll have a hard time hurting you. So stick to him and punch punch punch.
      As soon as you see him set his feet, and he will when he realizes running didn't work back the Heck out of there at an angle and get OUT of his reach again.
      He'll start chasing since.he wants revenge. And the second he comes to get it, stop.running and close and meet him in the middle again.
      Most people punch. Or they move. Most people can't do both. So when he plants his feet you move and he can't follow you. And when he's moving (especially backwards) he can't punch. So it's a whole lot safer for you to get aggressive. Watch him set his feet, tie him up, and/or bug out of there on an angle.
      It takes practice. But you'll catch on.

  • @watchmanonthewall14
    @watchmanonthewall14 3 роки тому +1

    All good advice. I would add a thing or two. The shorter man will do much better when he has naturally heavy hands. Many years ago, I knocked a guy silly with one punch to the head. He was about 8 inches taller than me, we were close, but his rock solid arm was partially blocking his body. I did not loop the punch. Went straight in. Actually straight UP. He never knew what hit him. But 19 times out of 20, I go for the body. A lot of big guys will actually flinch downward to cover up against another body shot, and that's when I MIGHT have a clear shot at the head or face. Having said all of this, I have ALWAYS tried to avoid trouble, and I find that most guys really do not want to fight, too. I see trouble in the vicinity and avoid it. Almost always works. I try to avoid groups of people, because I do not want to get jumped, and I try to avoid drunks, because they are inherently unstable and unpredictable. Fighting is my last resort. My very last resort. But if it goes past the point of no return, I'm all in.

Much to my surprise he easily stood 6'5" I'm a mere 5'7". Having put myself in that position, I felt I had to go on the offensive. As he walked up on me I hit him with 4 hard punches to the solar plexus. This indeed stopped the incident from any further escalation. I surprised him with my aggression and he didn't want anything more to do with me. He got back in his car to the applause and taunting of 2 middle age men across the street. No I don't consider myself a bad ass. It was more a reactionary response on my part.

I was a state wrestler....no I didn't place. But that was one of the rare instances I didn't incorporate my wrestling skills. On the ground that 6'5" opponent is living in my world. I incorporated elbows and forearms in high school, just not at the same intense level I have in a fight.

    I love this guy, he is so real. I LMAO at the start, I don't remember his partner being that tall, he was on a box.LOL. I picked solar plexus and groin also. Solar plexus with fist and hip turning in, and knee to groin is very good too, lots of mass hitting him there. He will ben over, you stay low, and look to connect and wrench that big boy to the ground using his momentum and your strong base. Great stuff here as always.

  • @MZITinfo

    So what's stopping the guy from hitting you in the head while you have your hands down like that? If he's a lot bigger and stronger, one clean shot to the head can knock you out easily. Also, if you're much smaller and weaker, I don't think those punches to the body would be all that effective (that's if you even get to land them before he hits you in the head and possibly knocks you out)

      I think you're misusing the word leverage. If you know how levers work, longer arms and legs have more leverage (tall person, longer limbs). A shorter person does have a lower center of gravity, though.

    • @davis4555
      @davis4555 3 роки тому

      @@AbcAbc-sp1od No, I'm right. The longer arms meant they had to have more motion spread over longer distances. It puts more strain on the pivot point and makes it harder to control. The same principles work in many sports from wrestling, to bench pressing and marksmanship. Longer limbs help with striking, running, and other highly mobile sports.

Glad I stopped, because not only did I understand he was NOT a giant, but got as usual, some good tips, and listened and used the skill noted especially of the "latissimus dorsi" muscle on either side of the back, to add extra power to a solar plexus strike. I really enjoyed the interaction between you both from the beginning, as your partner really did well playing the guy who is ready to hurt you my friend! Again, thanks very much, as I appreciate all of the good info you give to people like me, an older guy who although I have taken three martial arts throughout my younger life, I often still recognize due to the problems here in America, and virtually occurring ALL over now, older people must keep up, because there likely are plenty of young ones looking for older people who may well be carrying cash, and for the young and foolish, they think older men and women are a safe target! I will not become a safe target for anyone! That will give you the confidence you need to *avoid* fighting. This video is entertaining but it is basically a lie. You cannot fight a bigger opponent without serious risk of injury or death. You should only fight if you absolutely have to. I understand that you want to prove that you are not weak. But there are better ways to do that than fighting. If you want to prove you are not weak, take Judo classes or some similar combat sport where there is full contact sparring. I would also recommend boxing or Muay Thai but there is a good risk of brain damage if you do that. Be safe.

    Nice content. On paper, this works great. Although, being the 6’3” (really not that tall) southpaw Muay Thai fighter I am… A smaller man will have .5 of a second AT MOST in the close range. It might be worth discussing the possibility of encountering an 8 point fighter. In other words - you’ll either be teeped, kneed, or elbowed. If a taller fighter has even an ounce of training he’ll be backing up and preparing the leg/head kick. My advice to smaller/untrained fighters - run.

      Lol Max Holloway completely destroyed Will Chope by relentlessly invading his space and wrecking him with fast, powerful combinations. Max was a good 7 inches shorter. And Chope had 70+ Muay Thai fights.
      A shorter, powerful man needs less than half a second to throw a one two directly to the diaphragm, that sweet spot between the zyphoid process and upper abdominal muscle where knuckles will shock diaphragm into temporarily seizing up, stunning the target and bending him at the waist. Crushing back of skull with elbow is then optional.
      Bigger the opponent, the more ferociously he will be dealt with.

      "My advice to smaler/untrained fighters - run" => Absolutely. Never engage in a fight you can avoid, particularly if the aggressor is larger or seems skilled. But I disagree with some of your assessment. In my life I've never fought someone my size. It's always some guy that towers over me. Maybe it's because I don't fight in a conventional way, but I only ran into trouble twice, both of which I was fighting two men at once. I still came out on top, but I felt it afterwards. I'll agree 100% that if you're wearing gloves or fighting with sport rules that the taller, larger man has an overwhelming advantage. Not as much in street fights with neither.
