- I tried to make a traditional-style Japanese meal for my cats! It's a set menu (miso soup, rice with furikake, and fish) except the food is all made out of cat-safe ingredients.

I was so worried why Haku wasn't involved until the end, and then when he did show up he immediately reminded me he wasnt a fan of fish
He also doesn’t eat much
This channel honestly inspired me to train my cat when I got him. I always make him a little something when I cook for myself- when he was a kitten he used to sit on my shoulder while I cooked and now he sits on top of the fridge/freezer or ontop of the cupboards. He’s so curious about everything. He also used to fall asleep watching UA-cam videos with me and he loves watching these videos with me. I’ll put them on and he’ll jump up, sit on my lap and just watch with me.
Poki has better character development than most Netflix characters.

Japanese cats seem to be just as disciplined as the Japanese themselves
Culture plays a big role. We westerners highly value making sure we cater to our pets every needs while many eastern cultures tend to focus more on training them and making them more obedient. Not saying either is better/worse but pets of both cultures seem quite happy

One thing I’ve learnt from you is to show my cats and let them smell things- I just realised how much they calm down if they feel like they’re part of the process
Yes, as cats are very curious. I did this with my cats too. They always let you know if it was something pleasing to them or not.
That is something I have done with all my cats I have had. They get a good smell of what I have and then they are satisfied... well..OK... except one.
If I had crab, no amount of "just smelling" it would stop his demanding some. I learned to save the crab juice and butter for him. If I walked in the door and said "Kitty Crab" , he'd come running out "meow, meow, meow, meow" of where he was wanting some. (Cats's are not dumb). He had his own bowl of "Kitty Crab" juice when I had crab. I diluted it with 50% water. He would drink that till it was all gone, and look for more. I sure miss that little guy.
My cats would jump at me if I did that.

Animals and babies need to see lots of new sights and smells to develop more intelligently.

I’m extremely proud of Poki. He’s come such a long way, from being outside and eating roadkill, to being inside and stealing from the trash can, to stealing your cooking ingredients, and finally, sitting down and being patient for a meal, refusing until you give the OK to start eating.

Jun has put a LOT of work into training them. And yes, cats CAN be trained. It's just not as easy as training a dog. heh
Part of it also might be because Jun lets them sniff the ingredients before, and they’re just really calm about the entire thing at this point. Our cat overlords just simply wanna make sure that whatever we’re doing we’re doing it right!

My cat tears open a new bag of dry food when no one is looking. We put the dry food in a big plastic box along with his wet food and put it in a container meant for cereal so its easy to pour

I started letting my cat smell the ingrdients I use when I cook for myself and she enjoys it so much, she runs when I call her into the kitchen to smell stuff.

I do the same when I put away my groceries. My boy is an indoors-only cat, so it's really cute to see him smell all the weird outside aromas.
