Shoutout to channel member Wendy who asked about this - she’s working on her disco grooves in part 3 of her practice plan and asked about fills to go with them. Here are three fairly simple ones (Grade 2-4 level) that I enjoy playing. Notation and practice-along version on channel members’ page, here: www.buymeacoffee.com/mikebarnesdrums/notation-and-practice-alongs-for-three-great-disco-fills Video about disco grooves is here: ua-cam.com/video/z0PuFdS-WOc/v-deo.html Buy a coffee/become a channel member here: www.buymeacoffee.com/mikebarnesdrums
Disco All my musician friends at the time referred to it as "Thumpus Uninterruptus" Emphasis on "simple" Well done, Mike! And that's from a proud owner of a "Disco Sucks" t-shirt in the late '70s. That's when DJs started replacing live bands, very unpopular with every musician I knew. I have to admit that the idea of "live disco" is amusing. Good job!
You are partially right about musicians being kicked out of bands and replaced by DJs during the disco era, but I also found out that disco orchestras/bands did perform at live shows despite being unwanted. For example, Donna Summer's live disco shows (especially when she toured) did have an orchestra. Diana Ross had a sort of disco orchestra in her performance at Caesar's Palace (where she did "Love Hangover" and "The Boss"). And don't forget the Love Unlimited Orchestra in the early disco years. Of course, disco was destroyed in 1979 because some people called this music "degenerate" - and in some cases, promotes indecency.
@@charlessmith263 I was thinking in terms of bands not being hired because a DJ was hired instead. The school dances when I was in grades 7-9 always had live bands, then in HS grades 10-12, DJs were all the rage. I had friends in bands that went from playing a couple weddings & bar mitzvahs almost every weekend to breaking up because they couldn't get any gigs. right in that time frame... I graduated in '79.
brilliant tutorial on Disco fills, also loved your previous Disco grooves. Keep them coming. Do you have the drum notation available for disco grooves please ?
