Remember, we're not comparing ALL of Texas to NYC. The video is comparing AUSTIN to NYC. Living in Austin is *way* more expensive than most of the rest of the state. Broad Oaks Ranch, an hour outside of Houston, for example, is on the market for $29.5m, which gets you 18 beds, 18 baths, 1308 acres (about 2 square miles worth) with an 8-acre lake. So $50m in Texas could make you live pretty outrageously if you found the right area. (Yes, I know that you get less space in NYC because part of what you're paying for is convenience/access to the city/views. Everybody knows that lol. I am only pointing out that because Texas is so big, you can get even more than what this video shows if you live outside of the Texas triangle.)
I understand what you're saying, but also consider where the NYC apartment is located - probably the most expensive area of the State of New York. So its a fair comparison, I believe. I bet you could get a lot more for 50 million elsewhere in NY, just like you can get much more in TX away from Austin.
Yes but location is also important. A 30,000 sq ft mansion with 30 rooms in the middle of the Amazon rainforest being hundreds of miles from civilization would cost $100,000. Location is just as important as size. That’s why living in New York City is so expensive. There’s over 200 skyscrapers and it’s one of most known city’s in the entire world.

NYC has been a city since the 1620’s, way more history and international interest across all industries as opposed to just tech like Austin. Why would a single industry by itself make Austin better than the hundreds of years of industry that has been through NYC?
@terpinkov8770 Yes but with the Austin house you also get land which means that if many years from now the house hets demolished and they decide to built something else youd get a lot of money since land is becoming more and more expensive.
The view of the penthouse is priceless, but my choice would be the Texas house. I like space and activities plus family can visit and we have enough space to enjoy.

It all comes down to your life, what you do for a living and your preferences. Whit that kind of money I’d prefer to buy a couple of properties in southern Italy, one in Capri one in Sardinia (or Sicily), then again a property in the Basque region of Spain, a pied-à-terre in Manhattan; I’d invest the leftovers in the financial market and use the gains for maintenance.
My man!!!!! That is exactly what I think to myself all the time! Buy a nice penthouse in NYC and then a few other properties in European countries. Rent them out as vacation spots when I'm not there. Those things would pay for themselves!!!
@@khalidf1Non Europeans buying up properties and renting them out when they’re not around has caused widespread homelessness in Europe. American arrogance strikes again.
Living outside the US in a very crowded city but rented a nice semi private condo where amenities are all in one place, i have to give to texas, in my city it's nice that you have all of those hang out spots and not having to drive a long distance for groceries, but when you have your private garden and this much land, you can grow your own food, also i love the privacy of having most of the guest rooms on a completely different building, far away from the main complex, cause considering the glass walls and such you wouldn't like the guests being close to you except the two buildings that are the tree and garden house for close personal such as family and lifelong friends.
If I had to choose it would be New York. The whole city is your playground and it would be more fun to have family over for holidays and trips and have them meet in NYC. Plus if you are raking in billionaire money you could just have a small cabin on a lake in the US somewhere to cover the Texas house advantages.
Beautiful! I do love the Texas property - the outdoor kitchen is a plus for me. Yes, the Penthouse in NY is amazing - but I kept thinking about a pigeon dropping a poop fly-by on the glass! Hmmm..... do you have to have an exterior glass maintenance company on speed dial?

I guess what you would prefer depends on what type of lifestyle you like. For me, no question, no doubt, Texas baby. I could only stare out a Manhattan apartment for so long before I got bored to tears. I would prefer the space and the freedom of the Texas home and acreage. Although maintenance and up keep would be more of a challenge in Texas.

The Texas location is preferred simply because of the outdoor space With the design language of the new york condo. Texas home is a bit too minimalist for my taste. But those views would be hard to pass up on all the same.
You say no land but you have central park below you. I live in a city centre apartment building in England that overlooks a (much smaller) park and I love the fact that I have green space and no gardening to do!
I’m from Houston Texas and I will say that we do have a distance from restaurants, gyms, and clubs…however if you have the money you can always build it in your property! So I’d have to say Texas ❤
Imagine saying yeah in NYC you don't have land, BUT YOU HAVE VIEWS, compared to having 5-6 acres of land. Dude LOOKING at land you can never own is not comparable to OWNING 6 football fields
Personally id enjoy owning more land like in the texas property, although the design isnt really for me either, id be able to do more with more space and expand but realistically id choose the NYC apartment as an investment because at the end of the buy these ultra expensive properties are used to store money, most owners dont even live in them for that reason, and a apartment is always going to be more secure than a open property as most of the time there is either 1 way in or out, which depending on what your work is, can really be a decision maker.
Im a plumber from Austin Texas, I've worked in all kinds of price range houses including celebrities. Right now a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home can cost over 1m dollars. Its ridiculous.
Apart from the views, there's NOTHING that the New York apartment has over the Austin Mansion cz soon you'll get used to the views. Plus, you never know who is coming to visit you; maybe they are afraid of heights so the experience will be pointless. I'll go Texas all day.

I work on the 5th floor of a 6 floor building, and I can only do that because I don't think about how far down it is if the building collapsed. There's no way I would be able to live that far above the ground.
as a new yorker, there is no debate, you get more bang for your buck FOR THE PROPERTY in texas. in new york, the idea is that your also paying for the locations, but in recent years the location has been less than desirable, so unless you really really want to live in a city or new york get their shit together, im going with texas.
@@Soljarag5 NYC is a great place to visit. I wouldn't want to live there. It's too hectic. Texas isn't too appealing either. I wouldn't be happy in either location. However, if you can afford a 50 million dollar home, it doesn't really matter what's going on around you.
You do this thing where you are like... "And here we have the kitchen-huh. Over here are some beautiful views-huh. 0:46 "Comment down below...hhh". Reminds me of my friend from NY that went to Maryland-hhh...😁
I viewed a 40 story condo for rent overlooking the Boston harbor, I felt very cut off from the rest of the world even for 15 minutes while up there, and studies show anyone above the 20th floor probably won't survive a heart attack, and 3 floors and below keeps people connected to their hood and people. I can't live in a tower but it is interesting to watch and look at.
I was day dreaming about buying that 250M apartment on Billionaires Row. Then I was wondering would the owners be allowed to add gigantic neon lights on the top of that building that has the iconic " I ❤ NYC " So your home would be a massive eye catcher for all New Yorkers! 😂
I've never lived anywhere as nice as the billionaires' row condo obviously, but in my experience with average NYC apartments land lords will basically let you do whatever you want with balconies/ rooftops as long as it isn't permanent. Plants, furniture, and even grills are usually fair game.
I'm from New York. Even though I do like the house in Texas I have respect for the house. But I'm not going against my home town. Like he said, "The View". That alone is inspiring. I like the idea of living on top of the world, literally.
Personal preference is what I think it comes down to. I like being closer to the ground. The view in New york looks amazing but I love the backyard in texas.
I know I have an unpopular opinion, but I’d prefer NYC over Texas even if the place is much smaller. I grew up in Texas and spent 30 years there. Everything is so far apart in Texas that you HAVE to have a car. Public transit is rare. The cost of maintaining a vehicle is astronomical these days. Second reason is things to do. Everything is closer together and readily available in NYC over Texas. Third and final reason is workers rights. Texas is a “right to work” state and unions are widely fought against. You can get fired for ANYTHING no matter how loyal you are to a company.
If you can affors any of these, you are more likely an employer rather than an employee. "Right to work" works in your favor since you can fire underperformers without much hiccups.
id def take the nyc joint. the austin home looks like an upscale drug rehab facility on a farm. and nyc brings the culture, the food and international diversity that austin lacks.
I'm not that impressed by the Texan compound tbh. It looks like the average Nordic house expo building that costs 3 million € at most, aside from the surface material choices. The people living in the house somehow gave a nice impression through the personal stuff they had left visible around the place. I really liked the Texas place, it gives off a thoroughly Nordic vibe, but I don't think it's actually worth $50m, just by the looks. I could totally imagine living there tho. The NYC one still manages to impress. There, I couldn't really ever live, those windows give me a huge acrophobic panic even if the view is gorgeous. Overall, the image still is far more luxurious and I really like those guest rooms.
When you by a condo you buy your neighbors plus any issues they cause to the building. If you buy a home on acreage your don’t have to deal with others.
This is a tricky one. Overall they’re both very close. But ultimately that incredible bird’s eye view of Manhattan and Central Park just pips it for me.
Not exactly a fan of either (not that I could afford them). I would definitely prefer a brownstone or a brick townhouse in New York than the apartment.

@@georgiamarierx9682 and property insurance and property tax. both will be high for this property. Better off to stay at a 5 star hotel for a few months a year in NYC, a few months in London, a few months in the Tropics for the same money
You can buy a nice mansion in Texas for 1 million USD.
For a vacation, I'd have to say NYC, however for a long-term investment, I think the house in Texas would be wiser not just because of what comes with the house but as Austin is becoming pretty prominent in the tech world.
Great video, I enjoyed the compare and contrast!
Same
It would be great going forward if you can include annual cost for utilities, taxes, landscaping, housekeeping staff, security, insurance….etc….
Give me the New York house so I can stare out the window like an evil villain
Not a single person watching this actually asks this question. Cmon Erik! There’s so much knowledge our generation needs for RE that maybe you could hit next. Love you bro!
I like the Texas one its on the ground big and surrounded with nature
you're talking about what $50mill buys you. but what about the upkeep for both places? isn't the monthly fees for the new york place in the 5 digits PER MONTH!?
Not to mention some of the highest taxes in the country.
I would pick the Texas house especially after covid having my own land and garden 🪴 would be more important to me then a view. You can’t eat that view. Lol 😂 it’s a survival with me.
It’s not a fair comparison. He comparing a mansion to a penthouse. Instead he should compare New York State Mansions with Texas mansions
Facts me as well
@@legendaryking913I dont think that there are may penthouses that cost 50million. The New York penthouse is only thay expensive because of the location and the view
Yes, absolutely!
@@khalidf1Non Europeans buying up properties and renting them out when they’re not around has caused widespread homelessness in Europe. American arrogance strikes again.

Yeah definitely Texas but great video Erik 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
NYC makes more sense for a smaller family .. proud of you for bringing mental health care into the conversation 🎉. We need all the help we can get in this business!! 😂🔆😇💪
For a small family? Where are the kids playing at?
@@eklyptiksun not really playing just video games and/or watching TV basically
@@eklyptiksun lol ikr plus that high up apartment; Texas would make more sense playwise.
@@eklyptiksun in the house? in the public parks?
Texas is more family oriented. Hill country is beautiful and has so many great things for kids
That view of Central Park is absolutely incredible.
I'm a retired Army paratrooper / Infantryman spent 20 years active service, both knees are shot had 5 bilateral knee replacement surgery, I would take the Texas house, the NYC penthouse, well I'm tired of jumping from airplanes.
Texas for sure! You get more for your money.
People like me that live in NYC don’t live here because of a house , that’s just a piece of wood. We’re here for the salaries/ opportunities and stuff to do. People that live here is barely home. Home is to sleep 😂
@@BULLBITCHTRADER Ohhh I get it. It’s nothing like New York. I absolutely love New York, can’t afford to live there, but for me I just get more bang for my buck in Houston, Tx. But trust me I try to get up to the beautiful city of New York at least once a year!
@@lessconfused5179 Yeah for sure!! Houses there are way cheaper and nicer, like i said im not usually home but for a family with kids Texas is way nicer than NYC in my opinion. I would love to visit Texas too one day.
@@BULLBITCHTRADER I totally get it. NY is the largest city in America for a reason and it’s definitely a place where dreams can come true. For those of us that the dreams don’t come true I still want to get up there and experience the energy of that great city! Take care and gratitude for responding!
That’s why you can’t compare. They are not comparable. I need both. Texas also is slow growth in regards to career vs. NYC
The Texas location is preferred simply because of the outdoor space With the design language of the new york condo. Texas home is a bit too minimalist for my taste. But those views would be hard to pass up on all the same.
We wakeboard by that house all the time. Go Austin!
I am strickly choosing Texas because I have a phobia of heights lol
The stache is awesome. Few can rock it you rock it well.
You say no land but you have central park below you. I live in a city centre apartment building in England that overlooks a (much smaller) park and I love the fact that I have green space and no gardening to do!
Question: Why is the balcony not faced towards Central Park??? Would have been coolest thing on Earth. Also you are not using a suit in Texas.
They could of made the outside railing a little bit higher imo. Easily could fall off that
I’m from Houston Texas and I will say that we do have a distance from restaurants, gyms, and clubs…however if you have the money you can always build it in your property! So I’d have to say Texas ❤
Imagine saying yeah in NYC you don't have land, BUT YOU HAVE VIEWS, compared to having 5-6 acres of land. Dude LOOKING at land you can never own is not comparable to OWNING 6 football fields
Some people don’t care about owning a lot of land.
Exactly. I prefer the views I have of the woods behind my bouse. Who wants to stare at skyscrapers.
The home may not have a direct view, but Texas hill county is full of beautiful views. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been
Someone dropped the ball on those kitchen outlets on 111 57th.
The house in Texas looks really nice. Plus you get all that land. It all depends. If you want city life vs non city life.
Well to say Texas doesn’t have city life doesn’t make any sense.
Austin has amazing city life, especially at night
Personally id enjoy owning more land like in the texas property, although the design isnt really for me either, id be able to do more with more space and expand but realistically id choose the NYC apartment as an investment because at the end of the buy these ultra expensive properties are used to store money, most owners dont even live in them for that reason, and a apartment is always going to be more secure than a open property as most of the time there is either 1 way in or out, which depending on what your work is, can really be a decision maker.
I just want to say that I’ve been following you since you went on that trip with Jon and Janni and you’ve come so far! So happy for you!
The Texas house is so nice !!! Texas all day !!!
Rich people don’t pick, they buy both and experience the difference vibes every other week😂 only the poor people are debating which one is more worth the money 😂
This.
You're forgetting rich people often act poor. Actually you're correct since that's exactly a rich person mentality. Wealthy people don't act like you just described.
@@HHalcyonthat’s not really true because a lot of wealthy ppl hide their wealth in real estate so they would likely have multiple homes
I work on the 5th floor of a 6 floor building, and I can only do that because I don't think about how far down it is if the building collapsed. There's no way I would be able to live that far above the ground.
I'd prefer TX, I love the spaces you get
I wish i wasnt so afraid of heights i would be so nervous just getting near the windows 😅
New York is the better city, but Texas is way more affordable and has better all year round weather
Uh… have you stayed for the summers in Texas?
@@Joyish94I like heat. Also nyc has brutal summers too. 😅
Texas is a lot of things, but known for good weather is definitely not one of them lol
@@darkwoodmovies high humidity is good weather to me

as a new yorker, there is no debate, you get more bang for your buck FOR THE PROPERTY in texas. in new york, the idea is that your also paying for the locations, but in recent years the location has been less than desirable, so unless you really really want to live in a city or new york get their shit together, im going with texas.
The biggest downside of the Texas property is that you're living in Austin.
😂 you have a point. But NYC doesn’t seem much better. 😂 been to Austin, not NYC but it just seems “too much” from what I see and hear from afar
True... But you are comparing it to NYC
@@Soljarag5 NYC is a great place to visit. I wouldn't want to live there. It's too hectic. Texas isn't too appealing either. I wouldn't be happy in either location. However, if you can afford a 50 million dollar home, it doesn't really matter what's going on around you.
That’s why so many people from New York are relocating to Texas…
You do this thing where you are like... "And here we have the kitchen-huh. Over here are some beautiful views-huh. 0:46 "Comment down below...hhh". Reminds me of my friend from NY that went to Maryland-hhh...😁
The Texas just home has way more amenities, property and more...
I can't live in a tower but it is interesting to watch and look at.
always wondered if residents in the NYC building are allowed to put what they want on the balcony, like plants etc.
Way too windy for plants.
I was day dreaming about buying that 250M apartment on Billionaires Row. Then I was wondering would the owners be allowed to add gigantic neon lights on the top of that building that has the iconic
" I ❤ NYC "
So your home would be a massive eye catcher for all New Yorkers! 😂
@@Lyons_T-BAG hahaha
I've never lived anywhere as nice as the billionaires' row condo obviously, but in my experience with average NYC apartments land lords will basically let you do whatever you want with balconies/ rooftops as long as it isn't permanent. Plants, furniture, and even grills are usually fair game.
This video came up in my feed. Hey, great channel.
I'm from New York. Even though I do like the house in Texas I have respect for the house. But I'm not going against my home town. Like he said, "The View". That alone is inspiring. I like the idea of living on top of the world, literally.
I love the penthouse view but that Texas home is great. Would definitely step away from that light brown
the camera man breathing was so funny
I’ll take Texas I don’t like bad policies
The only state in the USA that is NOT a "right to work" state is Montana.
convenience, supply and demand of location, and what value we put on that home.
Out of the two, Texas wins it for me, only because I suffer from vertigo!
id def take the nyc joint. the austin home looks like an upscale drug rehab facility on a farm. and nyc brings the culture, the food and international diversity that austin lacks.
I pick both .
That is a very chill cat.
Overall, the image still is far more luxurious and I really like those guest rooms.
i had a heart attack when he sticked out the camera off the balcony
The Treehouse at the Texas home would be a sweet office
To avoid headaches, i’d buy both
When you by a condo you buy your neighbors plus any issues they cause to the building. If you buy a home on acreage your don’t have to deal with others.
Just being with nature alone...is worth more than a luxury suite in NYC. 💯
you gotta do nyc and like san fransicko
Awesome job Erik with the vlog.
Texas all the way from me. I love my privacy and space.
I'd rather live in a million dollar house and have $49 million in my bank account.
That’s the same idea of the people who buy houses like these. They buy a 50 mil house and have 5 billion in the bank.
Bro when is your chateau video coming?
This is a tricky one. Overall they’re both very close. But ultimately that incredible bird’s eye view of Manhattan and Central Park just pips it for me.
Him standing on the balcony in the apartment makes my palm sweaty
A smaller home is ideal for growing a healthy happy family. They will have stronger bond and connection because they see each other a lot everyday.
Not exactly a fan of either (not that I could afford them). I would definitely prefer a brownstone or a brick townhouse in New York than the apartment.
I’d prefer NYC bc I love New York!! It’s such a beautiful city it amazes me every time I’m there
New York for fall, Christmas and spring, Texas during the summer and post holidays winter.
