Gale Gordon was the greatest! His timing and reactions to Lucy was, just plain, fantastic acting. I grew up watching them and I was always fascinated by Gale Gordon's acting. He and Lucy made one of TV's greatest comedy duos!
Mr. Gordon loved playing Backgammon and I got to play a game with him. In the late seventies, I was a fourteen year old kid working as a dishwasher at a major hotel in western Canada. One of the venues at this hotel was a ritzy dinner theatre. I was lucky enough to see and meet many stars as we all shared the same small lunchroom with one big long table. I walked into the lunchroom one day to see Gale Gordon sitting at the table alone. His Backgammon case and drink sat in front of him. I sat down with my lunch but kept starring. After several minutes he looked at me and said, "do you recognize me?" to which I stated that indeed I did, "you're Mr. Mooney, from the Lucy show". A big smile appeared on his face and he stated he was surprised that someone so young recognized him. He asked if I knew how to play backgammon and I said yes, but not very good. We played a game, he destroyed me quickly, we laughed about it. He was such a pleasant person. After the game he shook my hand and said he had to get to rehearsal and I went back to work. Nicest man.
Wow Paul, how lucky you are to have met and chatted with Gale Gordon! I had read that he was a very nice man and you've just confirmed that....MANY THANKS for sharing your story. I hope you enjoy our site. You can see that we have a lot of Lucy related videos to share with folks!
Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, Valerie Harper, Gale Gordon, AND Dinah Shore. All you need is Mary Tyler Moore and the entire TV Royalty would be complete.
I only started watching a lot of I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show in 2020. I really enjoy watching Lucy and Vivian and Mr. Mooney aka Gale Gordon. Even though it isn't my era, I enjoy watching the show. Thank you.
I love the way Lucy seemed to be more at ease than usual.....maybe, because she had many of her friends there. You can tell that she loved them...and they loved her, also! Such a wonderful clip! Thanks for sharing!
I loved watching this video. It was wonderful to see Lucy and Gale Gordon together again. The chemistry between the two of them was fantastic. So funny when the bottle sprayed all over Gale instead of Lucy - done deliberately, of course, but poor Gale. May the memories of 'I Love Lucy', 'The Lucy Show', 'Here's Lucy' and anything else that these two incredible actors were in live on forever. Love Carol Burnett and Valerie Harper as well. Many thanks for posting this.
Actually, I believe he set it up JUST that way-where he would spray himself instead. He only wanted her to THINK he was going to get her-but getting wet was his schtick. Well played, Mr. Gordon
Memories. Such wonderful wonderful memories. Memories of plenty of wonderful good times. But at the same time, so sad, becuz they're all gone now, except for the wonderful Carol Burnett, God bless her.
I would watch the Lucy show with my mom when I was about 4-5 years old and I was so afraid about Mr. Mooney being so mean. I’m now 52 years old and I still watch I love Lucy everyday sometimes
An absolutely wonderful 10 minutes of great memories of very talented people who I watched on TV and that no one can ever think of being able to re-create with current day people.
So much talent together in one room. How I wish we could time travel. I'd love to meet Lucille Ball, Gale Gordon and Carol Burnett! This is so brilliant. Thank you for sharing. 🌹👏🏻🌹
I am a great one to read biographies of the great character actors of stage, screen and television. It had not occurred to be to read Gale Gordon's. The man was the most accomplished radio actor from way back in the 1930's with Fibber McGee and Molly. And he did it all from sci -fi, to straight drama, but of course he was most famous for his work in radio comedy. While Jack Benny, Bob Hope and Fred Allen basically played the same character in their radio days, this man was more versatile. And when he went into television, it was the same basic pattern outside of his association with Lucy. I urge you all to read his wiki page.
She and Desi found people who they saw believed to be particularly skilled and gifted at what they did, and she made point to cultivate these actors (and writers, directors, etc.) and cast them in roles.
@@inkyguy Lucy was always loyal to people she worked with from film, radio and tv. And they, in turn, were loyal to her. Gale Gordon and the original writers in I Love Lucy (Madelyn Pugh, Bob Caroll Jr and Jess Oppenheimer came from radio (my Favorite Husband) Karl Freund, original cinematographer on ILL, Lucy met on her earlier films in Hollywood - Desi talked him into joining the crew, at the time he was working for the government. Also hairdressers, makeup people etc etc. It was like a family.
SINCERE THANKS FOR THIS UPLOAD WHICH WAS BROADCAST A NUMBER OF YEARS BEFORE I WAS BORN,,, AMEN🙏!!! IS THE LADY SITTING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF CAROL BURNETT VALERY HARPER?!!
I felt drawn to this segment piece with Lucille Ball, Gale Gordon, Carol Burnett and Valerie Harper quite entertaining. I would not hesitate to state that mainly because of all the humor went into it. Another thing I felt it very important to stress that mainly because of how Lucille Ball appeared from being more at ease.
oh my godness m a die hard fan of great lucille ball, undoubtly the queen of comedy not only in that era but still nobody touch her class, love u lucy may God rest her soul in peace
so Gale Gordon and Bea Benaderet would have been the original choices for Fred and Ethel - WOW ! I would loved to have seen a few of those , if they had ever been made !
Gale had to be there on set for another reason: I recall Lucy destroying his house on Here's Lucy so it was being renovated haha. It was a funny episode called Lucy the fixer. Don't trust Lucy with a conduit.
I watched that special as a kid when it aired in 1976. It was rare to see Desi on TV then. He wasn't on camera with her. He did a segment where he presented clips.
What a different world it was. The scary thing is I remember being a kid at this time like it was yesterday. I'm so glad I can remember most of the greats when they were still alive. I thought they'd be around forever. These people were pros that came up the hard way and such dignified people too. It'll never be again in today's climate. We prefer crudeness today.
10:00: Of course it should be noted that Lucy's first credited movie appearance was in the Three Stooges short 'Three Little Pigskins' (1934) in which her character DID get seltzer water up her nose- and decades later when asked about what she learned from the experience, " I learned that getting seltzer water up the nose REALLY hurts!" However, Mr. Gordon's foiled foil expression of when that prop backfired was priceless! BTW, he got his distinctive intonations via having been born without a palate in the top of his mouth and learned to compensate for that when speaking! He said he always looked forward to working with her because he had FUN doing the stunts!
Gale Gordon is underrated. Brilliant support actor and obviously a master of episode.
LOL!
@@HelloooThere Whatever you lol-ed at was edited and no longer here. Do you recall what it was?
Gale Gordon. A man of class. An underrated actor. Very much enjoyed seeing him here!!
Gale. great straight man!
It’s 2019 I’m 14 and I still watch I love Lucy and Lucy show

You have good taste.
I actually had tears in my eyes when Gale and Lucy embraced . They really were great friends!
Me too. It was very touching. You can see the love they had for each other!

Very touching moment... Btw, I m fr Malaysia.
My late father's favourite show. I used to watch this on tv with him
Gale Gordon was a big part of Lucy's success in her shows. He was brilliant!! He really show cased her.
Gale Gordon was the greatest! His timing and reactions to Lucy was, just plain, fantastic acting. I grew up watching them and I was always fascinated by Gale Gordon's acting. He and Lucy made one of TV's greatest comedy duos!
Lucy did so well with Gale Gordon. I truly enjoyed them working together when he was Mr Mooney. Both of them were so receptive to one another.

Carol Burnett is the only one still with us as of 2021.
And still here as of this May 7th turned 90 on April 26th
I simply adore Mr Gordon!
And it's Jan 2021 and I'm watching The Lucy Show. ❤❤
Same as me. I started watching this movie at 1978. I'm 56 now
It's 2023 and we're still watching I Love Lucy 😊❤.

Dinah Shore had such a lovely, soothing speaking voice.
When "Mr. Mooney" accidentally (on purpose) sprayed himself with the seltzer bottle he really should have given an indignant, "Mrs. CARMICHAEL!!!"
Actually, I believe he set it up JUST that way-where he would spray himself instead. He only wanted her to THINK he was going to get her-but getting wet was his schtick. Well played, Mr. Gordon
@@johntapp7232 Loved it!
This is back when they actually had talk shows that meant something!!!!
Lucy’s shows would not have been as funny consistently as it was without Gale Gordon. He is truly underrated.
Wasn't he Mr. Littlefield in an episode of I Love Lucy?I think he was the owner when Ricky Ricardo was looking for a raise.
Memories. Such wonderful wonderful memories. Memories of plenty of wonderful good times. But at the same time, so sad, becuz they're all gone now, except for the wonderful Carol Burnett, God bless her.
Yes
To this day one of the greatest comedic duo's in the history of entertainment...makes me miss my grandma....whos name was Lucy ❤
Gale Gordon and Lucy were a GREAT team. They both make me laugh just looking at them.
how funny that lucy and Gale gordan can get!!! I love it!!!
Gale with Lucy a great comedy off the cuff team💖
I'm so lucky to have grown up enjoying these shows. 📺⭐
Gale Gordon worked on different shows and he always bought out the best in everyone. 🤗
Fibber Mcgee & Molly & Our Miss Brooks
Gale Gordon was by far the best 'second banana' ever.
I hope there's an afterlife and Gale and Lucy are both up there sharing a laugh together. The love was such a connection between them.
That's not how that works
That was really good! Dinah did a great setup!
back when TV had something to laugh at RIP Gale Gordon Valerie Harper Dinah Shore and of course Lucille Ball
Thank you for showing this. I grew up in 70’s and loved all these performers. We are lucky to still have Valerie and Carol alive ❤️😊
I was so sad when Valerie passed away in August. She was so lovely!
I love to hear Lucy tell a story, I could lumen to her all day.
Her writer, Madeline Pugh said Lucy usually used the person sitting next to her as a prop in her stories.
I would watch the Lucy show with my mom when I was about 4-5 years old and I was so afraid about Mr. Mooney being so mean. I’m now 52 years old and I still watch I love Lucy everyday sometimes
more people need to see this!
Dinah has this way of keeping the conversation going but letting you forget that she's there at all.
So sad they are all gone, except Carol. ALL GREATS!
Gale Gordon was so funny
I got chills what better story tell people than making Lucille Ball laugh. I can't think anything greater.
Dinah is beautiful. Inside and out.
I adore Carol Burnett
Im very happy sering this. Tks
There couldn't have been a successful LUCY SHOW without Mr. Mooney!
I thank you for posting this masterpiece!!

To see the genuine affection, between Miss Ball and, Mr. Gordon-oops; something, in my eyes!

Love the demonstrations of affect and respect for her friends Lucy shows in this clip!
Can’t get enough of these people and the comedy
You can see the love the Lucy had for him in her eyes. Viv was the best, but Gale was a close second!
What a treat!! Thanks for this fantastic post!
A lot of good comedians on that stage, Valeri Harper was up there she was also very funny
