It’s truly fascinating how raw soil can become mirror-like, isn’t it? ☺️✨ One of the great things about Dorodango is that, since it doesn’t require firing, anyone can try making it at home! ✨
What type of clay should I get? Are there any available on amazon that you would recommend? I see bentonite, kaolin, french, Moroccan, and several more lol
Clay powder can be just regular clay powder! As for the sand, it’s best to use something very fine. If you’re unsure about what to use, I’ve made a kit available for purchase starting yesterday! It includes all the carefully selected tools, soil, and sand that I personally use. You can find it on Etsy, so feel free to check it out! ☺️✨✨🫶🏻www.etsy.com/jp/shop/ShinyDorodango
Thanks so much for your videos, love your sharing. Some questions Is it possible to make several dorodango and not finish them the next day? Can they dry completely? Is there a way to get them done in one day? Looking forward to your next movie😍
@@nilssonjess You can definitely make several dorodango cores and leave them for later! I’ve had ones sit for over a month and they were still fine 😊🙌❤️ And yes, there’s also a way to finish them in one day! However, the moisture trapped inside the layers will evaporate overnight, causing the surface to become cloudy the next day. If that happens, you’ll need to polish it again until the cloudiness disappears, but you can still make it shine in just one day! It’s easier if you let the moisture out and continue the next day, so I usually spread the process over two days 😊👍👍 Feel free to ask me anything if you have more questions! 😆 Give it a try, it’s so much fun!
I don’t apply any coating! However, since it’s in its raw, unfired state, it will dissolve if it gets wet. If you handle it with dry hands, it can maintain its shine for quite a long time! It’s amazing how just polishing clay and sand can make it shine, isn’t it? 😆✨✨💓 Please give it a try!
They are sensitive to sweaty hands and water, so they dissolve when wet. 😊 But if you simply display them, they’ll keep their shine indefinitely! On a Japanese TV show featuring Dorodango, they even showed ones that were made 40 years ago. 😊 Some had small chips, but they still shined!
Thank you for the recipe. I'm unfortunately able to go collect and prepare appropriate earth from my area, so making my own is really the only option at this time. I wish it were different, the clay here is VERY red and truly stunning. But I love the idea of using pigment powders. How long do yours last? I know some people say that they don't hold up over time.
Since the clay layer is deep underground, I can’t just dig up soil from roadsides or parks here in my country, so I buy both clay powder and fine sand ☺️ It sounds amazing that you live in a place with red soil! 🫶🏻🥹💓💓 If the soil lacks stickiness, it may crack soon after making the dorodango. Adding clay content can help it hold together better! ☺️
It’s an egg cup! 🥚 It’s actually meant for holding boiled eggs. 😊💓 For larger dorodangos, I use the top of the cup to polish, and for smaller ones, I use the bottom part. It’s made of ceramic! You can also polish with glass cups, but having a curved shape works best. Let me know if you have any more questions! 😆
@@DorodangoNoriko-u3x Thank you! I thought it looked familiar lol I actually have one somewhere deep in a cupboard in my kitchen. You've inspired me! ✨💖✨
I made two with actual dirt. They both cracked 😢 a lot of hours wasted. I'm going to try putting some clay in my next one. I didn't know that this mix was an option. Thank you for sharing 😊 do you think that using a fine ground colored chalk would work for pigment?
There is a method of making Dorodango using Japanese plaster, which is made of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), the same as chalk. This means chalk could potentially work similarly to create a shiny surface. If you powder the chalk and mix it with clay powder, it might produce a glossy finish when polished. It’s not certain, but it could shine! The finer the chalk particles, the smoother and shinier the result could be. I’m thinking of trying this myself and making a video! Let me know how it works out for you too! 😊❤️
