When you described your plan to use orange peel in a dorodango, my immediate thought was that either ginger, turmeric, or cardamom, ground in a spice grinder, would harmonize beautifully with the orange scent and add some depth of color as well!
@@IrinaGreenman That's certainly a very interesting idea! I can't think of any reason for this not to work, and it would be interesting to see if finely-ground spices would shine! They've got oil in them, so it seems logical to me!
Thank you for sharing! The beautiful color gradient on this made me wonder if is it possible to brush designs on a dorodango using a pigmented powder? Or does the polishing process make it difficult/impossible? Also as a suggestion; have you used butterfly pea flower powder for color? It's a lovely, vibrant blue/violet! When exposed to acid it turns violet/pink and if exposed to alkalinity it turns a blue/green. I wonder if it would work on soil or if different soil acidities would affect its color?! :)
I’ve seen some people paint on their finished dorodangos with regular paint! When you mix paint with clay and polish it, though, the design doesn’t stay as a picture-instead, it blends into a beautiful marbled pattern. The same thing happens when I add leaves; they create a lovely marbled effect. And about butterfly pea powder! I hadn’t heard of it before, so I looked it up, and it’s quite pricey! I might add it to my Amazon wishlist and hope someone surprises me with it. The blue is absolutely stunning, and I’d love to try it!
