80% of players will just wait until there's an actual non-beta update. People likely won't know anything is happening until an update drops.

Hey Chet! Steam just released a new API for switching game versions / beta branches programatically from the game itself around a week ago - this sounds like a match for your problem here.
I.e. When you try to party up with someone on an incompatible version, the players on Steam are prompted to switch to the beta version, and if they click OK, you call SetActiveBeta to let steam download the correct branch and restart the game.

Yeah I saw that but the download times are lengthy -it’s a big update so not sure how practical but thanks

I think the Xbox as an optional beta branch is a great idea. Put a box in the regular branch just informing people with instructions on how to crossplay if needed.

Hey Chet. Unrelated question. Do you have any other ways to join your game nights other than Discord? I dont use it and would love to join you guys and play some Anacrusis or other games

Discord is a requirement to play - you don’t need to talk but you need to be in the chat to hear the discussion. We tried not making it a requirement and it was a nightmare.

Obviously, cross compatibility is awesome since not everyone has the same capabilities to play on a specific platform and it allows more players to enjoy the game with each other . Although is it always fair in all games? Not really, with the aim assist and the lack of ability to snap on to enemies like with a mouse vs a controller. But for most non competitive games where you just want to have fun it should definitely be a must when possible as the game might need powerful hardware to run.
