the keyblade of heart is an "unfinished" keyblade, if you look closely the "spikes" would form a heart shape if the keyblade would have been fully finished but because ansem cannot get the full control of riku it never became what it was suppossed to be that is why it doesn't have a chain, and why the handle is torted
Also add to the fact that it looks closer to a standard weapon rather than a keyblade, it's simple design makes it more intimidating. You could actually stab someone with it even if it wasn't a keyblade.
Its not unfinished because Ansem did not had full control of Riku. It is made out of the hearts of the princesses and Kairis heart Riku Ansem did not had to complete the thing.
I mean, its meant to be an artificial counterpart to the kingdom key. But they could've done minimalist without having it be all spiky and still have the same effect.
About the keyblade of heart, the spikes arent just spikes. If u look closely to the spikes, u can see a not-fully-shaped heart. Yes its basic, but it still has meaning.
Basic, is good, I don't get why you would want complicated looking key. Like I don't like most Keyblades that have too much shit going on. They just look desperate to look cool.

Metal Chocobo looks like something you would put in front of a door to stop it from closing. My least favourite is All For One. The most basic, uninspiring keyblade of them all. The "teeth" of it are just pathetic, just one solid shape glued on the end.
Naw metal chocobo is pretty ugly, i mean if it was a little more chocobo themed it would be pretty cool but right now its just a piece of metal with a chocobo keychain
While I do agree that the Keyblade of Heart could have had a much more amazing design, we can't forget that the keyblade is incomplete. now I know that they did something similar with the X-blade and it looked awesome, it was their first Kingdom Hearts game. I kind of wished we could have seen what the Keyblade of Heart looked like when it was fully complete.
Considering that the Door to Darkness is locked using the two Kingdom Keys, I don't think Xehanort's Heartless would be able to open it, which would make the Keyblade of Heart that was meant to open the path to the Door, kinda pointless
#3 is my favorite. I love it because of the design and the Heart shape at the teeth. I can slightly agree with Fairy Harp. Metal Chocobo is just like Cloud's hefty sword. It's big, and it could be used better for defense if someone were to throw a fireball or something. Follow the Wind, I thought the teeth was like an Anchor. Ocean's Rage, is matching at it's design. The whole situation regarding Monstro in the movie Pinocchio. Crabclaw, it's not that bad and Atlantica isn't that bad either.
Blanka Gałkowska I used Olympia and it worked super well In my opinion, Metal Chocobo has a very long reach, and it could sometimes have too much strenght i mean if you like to end fights like these quickly then alright but i personaly like taking it slowly just to enjoy the soundtrack and to strategize

Also, Keyblade of Hearts gets shit, yet no mention of Sweet Memories and how it's one big joke weapon that consist of a trunk and a bee hive? Gotta step up your game man lol
My best friend played kingdom hearts for the first time, so I thought why not let her play 0.2. Then when terra fights against xehanort she says " That was pretty TERRA-fying" I honestly don't know if I should feel amazed or just disappointed right now
I think that KH1 and BBS had some of worst designs all around. Ironically, I think that 358/2 days had some of the best designs because they weren't blunt object world inspired designed like so many others. For lack of a better word, 358/2 keyblades were edgy as fuck and its sucks that we will never see them in 3D. Divewing is probably my favorite looking Keyblade in the entire series, rivaled by KH2 Ultima Weapon.

regarding Follow the Wind... I actually think it's really well designed for the world it's from, and not as "basic" as you seem to think. For starters, I highly doubt it's an "axe", and rather an anchor. Second, the medallion is a key plot point of that world, so that's perfectly fine to see on the keyblade. Lastly, and this is something you didn't even seem to notice, is that the handle is essentially a ship's wheel. Overall, I think it's a perfect fit for a pirate world.
My notes on your choices: -Follow the Wind - The "axe" as you call it is a call back to a ship's anchor, and the guard is a steering wheel from the ship. Also, the reason why there's only two medallions on the keyblade makes sense as it's one for the coin that Jack has, and one for the coin that Elizabeth has. -Wishing Star - They are gears. the keyblade is covered in gears. It's also wooden because you get it from Pinnochio's friendship. -Keyblade of Heart - The negative space in the teeth at the top is a heart.
Follow The Wind, Keyblade of Heart, Metal Chocobo: [is on the list for being "too basic"] Kingdom Key: [is literally a giant key, can't get more basic than that]
One of the redeeming qualities of number 3: the hollow space between metal spikes at the end makes a heart, much like the Kingdom Key's hollow space is the Sora's crown
Sees follow the wind on this list and rages. Like WTF CYNICAL!?!?!?!?!?!?! This keyblade looks badass and it fits the theme and look of PoC. You're on crack! haha
UnwindingUncle I completely agree. I think 3d has the worst set of keyblades but Oceans Rage is easily one of my favorite from that game. but then again his entire list is trash.
@TheGamersJoint not that I disagree with your assessment on the pirates of the Caribbean keyblade but I'd like to point out that the top is an anchor, not an axe lol. great video though homie
Can I just talk about what the keyblade would look like if Neverland returned? The handle would be the shape of a crocodile referencing the crocodile that bit off captain hooks hand and the blade being Big Ben while the outside of the handle would be ocean waves. And finally, the chain would be made of metal where the Keychain would be a clock. (Idea that may not work: the clock Keychain would actually tell the time, where depending on your consoles time it follows it.)
Metal Chocobo Key blade i believe was designed that way so it looked like it was cut out of Clouds buster sword from final fantasy 7, also the reason they wouldn't have designed it with a sharp edge is that fact other than Cloud the previous two owners of the buster sword only used the blunt edge of the buster sword unless absolutely necessary as using the blade would "brings about wear, tear, and rust-and that's a real waste. "
I personally love the design of the keyblade of heart. Its like a perfect, simplistic, counter to Sora's kingdom key. I wouldve put Sweetstack from bbs top of the list like number 2 if not 1. I know you get it by collecting the ice cream ingredients but it reminds me of the devil worshipping mini game ice cream beat. I still have nightmares about it.... 0_o
Follow the Wind's teeth is an anchor. Fairy Harp is a misnomer. The teeth are actually a pan flute / panpipes. Wishing Star's teeth is a cog like in Geppetto's toys. I actually like Keyblade of Heart's design namely because the 'spikes' are actually the cutout of a heart shape (like a missing heart) which makes sense since the keyblade is meant to unlock people's hearts. While it's design is somewhat basic, I think it's more practical than an embellished badass keyblade, since it seems designed to impale the opponent's heart you wish to unlock with much more ease. Sometimes less is more.
The blade of Keyblade of Hearts is not just "spikes", as you say. Look at the negative space. It's heart-shaped, just like the negative space of Kingdom Key is crown-shaped.
Metal Chocobo is one of the coolest best designed Keyblades in the games, and not "just because it has connections to final fantasy". It's not just a slab of metal, it's made to be reminesent of Clouds Buster Sword but in key form with a vague Chocobo head shape worked into the key part. It's also because of this the most sword like key to enjoy having equipped for those cut scenes and isn't covered in a bunch of bandages that make no sense.
imagine being one of the many few who can wield a keyblade, doing years of training, and the keyblade that you are gifted with is a stick with shit glued to it (wishing star) and all your friends have cool keyblades like Fenrir and you have a literal stick that you have to fight with in a keyblade war.
A solo Seeing as the worlds visited prior to the war are stated to be holograms (illusions), it's safe to say that the events occured by the players are set in their own created timelines. kinda think, digital twilight town, but you're able to siphon light from it. Only exception is what occured after the war, in which you do inhabit a real world, which was enchanted dominion, but even that is being debated.
I kinda wondered the same thing about a lot of the worlds. maybe certain worlds have like a Groundhog day effect, repeating the same significant events over again. Hey Cynical, if you read this you should so a video on this. what's your opinion on how time passes in each world for those who don't travel around?
id say follow the wind is actually an Anchor on a metal rod attached to a ships wheel with a medallion on the hilt fairy harp is a plant with a harp at the guard and a pan flute at the top wishing star is a stick covered with wooden gears crab claw is a crab on a jet of water. though it does resemble the infamous tower the keyblade of peoples hearts has a heart cut out from the top metal chocobo is supposed to resemble the buster sword so it does its job well
The Keyblade of Hearts (or the - Original - Keyblade of Darkness as I preferred to call it ever since I was a child) is my favourite designed Keyblade. I love the design for its simplicity - as I always saw it as the yin to the Kingdom Key's yang - and yet it still had a sinister vibe to it. I would love to see it again in a future KH game. *On a side note, I used to believe during my very first run through of Kingdom Hearts that Sora would be able to wield the Keyblade of Hearts after 100% completing the game. XD
Agree in almost everything except the KoH: Very clean and elegant design for such an evil power, would really love to see it coming back. I personally like a lot more the simple designs for the keyblades from KHI. With the years Nomura’s weapons have become very saturated in their designs. First time posting. More than a year watching your content. Love your channel, dude. Accurate as humanly possible.
With the Keyblade of Hearts, I think it was MEANT to be simple. Like, it's something that looks unimportant, but can and will change your life for better or worse.
Kids today will never know the struggle of having to use fairy harp whilst fighting dark riku in kh1 because you needed the extra magic for cure spells...
I would have shaved this down to a top five, but other than those two, I have to agree with this list whole heartedly. Especially Metal Chocobo. Seriously, that blade needs a redesign, STAT.
Keyblade of heart has a perfect design for it, the spikes fit a heart inside of it I don't know how you can't see that...unlocking and taking someone's heart it has a good design for its purpose
There've been a lot of comments defending the Keyblade of Heart already, but I just want to mention that I think it's basic design was intended to convey that it's the counterpart to Sora's basic keyblade, Kingdom Key. Kingdom Key is also pretty basic, but since it's the first keyblade, it gets a pass. The basic design on the Keyblade of Heart echoes that simple design, but with an evil motif. Black and red, somewhat misshapen, it practically oozes ominousness. And since the rivalry between Sora and Riku is a big part of KH1's story, I feel like it's got symbolic meaning in the fact that it's so simple. It's meant to convey Sora and Riku's relationship as sort-of foils to each other, as well as Riku's functioning as an antihero. At least it seems this way to me.
Follow the Wind: Head of the Keyblade is a ship's anchor, with one side extending out as the neck of the key, with a ship's wheel as the guard. Seems pretty fitting for Port Royal to me :p
8. Definitely gotta agree with that, the monochrome is just...I mean, its literally a pipe. The theme is so flawed that it doesn't even call back to the steamboat its supposed to represent at all. 7. From what I can tell 2:42 it was something a metal pike or spear, with an Anchor for the teeth, a Ship's Wheel for the hilt, the Medallion for thematic effect, and bones for the chain. It was meant to be simplistic and add to the semi-realistic effect of the world. I'd say its not half as bad as you think it is.Though I do agree that it could've used a little more flashiness to it. 6. Fairy harp is just...ugh. They could've done soooo much more. I mean fuck. This is peter pan's world, give me a sword, a dagger, and clockwork and you've got a damn good keyblade concept. 5. Seriously though, what is it even supposed to be? It's not even a damn puppet, its not even a ship. Its just a stick with a buncha wooden gears. 4:...it was a decent idea for a design, but it was soooo poorly put together. They could've just designed it aroun da trident and it would've looked so much better. 3. I do like riku's Keyblade of heart, but it is crazy simple. :/ Like, I get that its meant to be an artificial conterpart to the Kingdom Key...but its so...bleh. 2. The metal chocobo genuinely looked like the blade was made of foam, and slapped onto a wrought iron beam hilt made from stuff found in a construction site. 1. Is just so, so, bad. I mean. Fuck is it bad. There's no way it could actually get any worse.
What's wrong with basic? Sometimes less is better, and I frankly really like both Follow the Wind and the Keyblade of Heart's designs. I feel like adding more to either of them would just detract from their appearance. Follow the Wind managed to look like a pirate ship using just a helm hilt and an anchor blade and that's really clever, and the Keyblade of Heart's red and black color scheme and angular features manage to make it look, in my opinion, just as sinister as Xehanort's Keyblade WITHOUT the extra accessories. That's impressive. I agree with you on the other Keyblades from this list though.
As they say, Simplicity is the "keynote" to all true elegance. It shouldn't be complex to be good. Sometimes you should have less to be more, and to do more. And I totally didn't get these from google.
not a flame or anything but the reason why the Metal Chocobo looks that way is it is a proxy for the Buster Sword, aka a slab of metal with a blade and 2 holes at the bottom
Isn't Follow The Wind supposed to be based on the compass? The blade (Aside from the little ax looking bit ) Looks like the needle of a compass to me so maybe thats what they were going with?
Hey Cynical, do you have a video of your personal favorite designs to kind of counter your least favorite? If not, I think it would be cool if you made one.
You do realize for wishing star, that those are gears, right? Because Gepetto makes clocks and wooden stuff. You literally get this form him in his workshop. How do you get sunflower from that? I don't know why, but it really bugs me on that particular one.
the keyblade of heart is an "unfinished" keyblade, if you look closely the "spikes" would form a heart shape if the keyblade would have been fully finished but because ansem cannot get the full control of riku it never became what it was suppossed to be that is why it doesn't have a chain, and why the handle is torted

Keyblade of heart has a minimal design and the 'spikes' is in a form of a heart so it all works, I like it a lot to be honest
I mean, its meant to be an artificial counterpart to the kingdom key. But they could've done minimalist without having it be all spiky and still have the same effect.
the keyblade of unlocking peoples hearts is not that bad a design its quite evil looking so it does the job!
Even though you can't use it, it is still my favorite keyblade of all type.
I actually really like the keyblade of heart too 👌
And the negative space of the key teeth make an incomplete heart! It's got such a cool design
The Keyblade of Heart gets a pass IMO... I mean, look closely at the teeth, it really looks like a heat missing some of its walls.
About the keyblade of heart, the spikes arent just spikes. If u look closely to the spikes, u can see a not-fully-shaped heart. Yes its basic, but it still has meaning.

This is partially related, but does anyone know where that background in the thumbnail is from? I don't think I've ever seen it before.
One of the redeeming qualities of number 3: the hollow space between metal spikes at the end makes a heart, much like the Kingdom Key's hollow space is the Sora's crown
Do a top [insert number] best looking keyblades, that would be pretty cool
Sees follow the wind on this list and rages. Like WTF CYNICAL!?!?!?!?!?!?! This keyblade looks badass and it fits the theme and look of PoC. You're on crack! haha
Not all keyblades need to have an over excessive design
Dude fucking oceans rage is the most creative one I've seen so far in DDD. It's the best looking one in this list.
Uhm, I think Follow the wind is better... but that's my opinion, I guess.
UnwindingUncle I completely agree. I think 3d has the worst set of keyblades but Oceans Rage is easily one of my favorite from that game. but then again his entire list is trash.
Can't tell if serious or not.
the worst keyblade is that 365/2 days lookin keyblade...inside joke e_e
TheScopeo *cough cough* 358 *cough cough*
@TheGamersJoint not that I disagree with your assessment on the pirates of the Caribbean keyblade but I'd like to point out that the top is an anchor, not an axe lol. great video though homie
"You'd most certainly kill Xehanort, but he'd die of laughter" oh my goodness that killed me
"You would most _certainly_ kill Xehanort, but he'd die from *laughter!"*
i'm weak
Can I just talk about what the keyblade would look like if Neverland returned?
The handle would be the shape of a crocodile referencing the crocodile that bit off captain hooks hand and the blade being Big Ben while the outside of the handle would be ocean waves. And finally, the chain would be made of metal where the Keychain would be a clock.
(Idea that may not work: the clock Keychain would actually tell the time, where depending on your consoles time it follows it.)
Hey could you make a video showing the free themes you get for beating the game?
I never thought of holding Monstro's uvula as a handle of Ocean's Rage! XD
Yesssss bring back the top 10 countdowns, very fun video
The keyblade of heart looks like a a straight up fire poker 😆
Just went to the Kingdom Hearts World Tour in London yesterday and loved it
Follow the Wind's teeth is an anchor.
1) Three Wishes
2) Jungle King
3) Sweet Stack
4) Sleeping Lion
5) Mysterious Abyss (Atlantica Trash)
6) Midnight Roar (358/2)
7) Sign of Innocence (358/2)
8) Astral Blast (358/2)
The blade of Keyblade of Hearts is not just "spikes", as you say. Look at the negative space. It's heart-shaped, just like the negative space of Kingdom Key is crown-shaped.
Metal Chocobo is fucking sick. Come on, Cynical. Sometimes simple is better!
Anyone else here ever designed their own keyblade? No?
Well, I did and I'm proud of it. 😎
I did. Then I lost the specs :(
I did
imagine being one of the many few who can wield a keyblade, doing years of training, and the keyblade that you are gifted with is a stick with shit glued to it (wishing star) and all your friends have cool keyblades like Fenrir and you have a literal stick that you have to fight with in a keyblade war.
What would place would you list Riku's new KH3 keyblade?
off topic, but the kh chi timeline doesn't make sense. Hercules was with out God power in BBS, but he has God power in Chi. Can you answer why?
A solo
Seeing as the worlds visited prior to the war are stated to be holograms (illusions), it's safe to say that the events occured by the players are set in their own created timelines. kinda think, digital twilight town, but you're able to siphon light from it. Only exception is what occured after the war, in which you do inhabit a real world, which was enchanted dominion, but even that is being debated.
I kinda wondered the same thing about a lot of the worlds. maybe certain worlds have like a Groundhog day effect, repeating the same significant events over again. Hey Cynical, if you read this you should so a video on this. what's your opinion on how time passes in each world for those who don't travel around?
id say follow the wind is actually an Anchor on a metal rod attached to a ships wheel with a medallion on the hilt
fairy harp is a plant with a harp at the guard and a pan flute at the top
wishing star is a stick covered with wooden gears
crab claw is a crab on a jet of water. though it does resemble the infamous tower
the keyblade of peoples hearts has a heart cut out from the top
metal chocobo is supposed to resemble the buster sword so it does its job well
The Keyblade of Hearts (or the - Original - Keyblade of Darkness as I preferred to call it ever since I was a child) is my favourite designed Keyblade.
XD
Hey GamersJoint I am also a Kingdom hearts fan and let me just say ur little kingdom hearts animation intro is kinda cool looking
'you would most certainly kill xehanort but he'd *die* from laughter'
I like the design of the Keyblade of Heart... it knows it doesn't need to have a complex design to be badass because it's already badass.
Hey you're back with the top 10s!
now all we need is that marluxia prank call!
In defense of the Metal Chocobo, while it is VERY basic, it's meant to resemble the Buster Sword which is a very basic looking sword.
I like the idea of Keyblade of Hearts because the end spikes reminds me of lock picking tools in real life.
I would have shaved this down to a top five, but other than those two, I have to agree with this list whole heartedly. Especially Metal Chocobo. Seriously, that blade needs a redesign, STAT.
Oceans Rage can drown in sorrow.
The Keyblade of Heart may look basic, but so does the Kingdom Key which is also extremely important
Basic design looks so nice, I just love it
Keyblade of heart has a perfect design for it, the spikes fit a heart inside of it I don't know how you can't see that...unlocking and taking someone's heart it has a good design for its purpose
The blade part of Follow the Wind is a ship's anchor. The hand guard is the steering wheel of a ship.
now we need a best looking keyblade list from you
Now that I recall how it looked, I'm reminded how come I didn't use Ocean's rage in the game. I just equipped All for One instead.
I agree with you on the other Keyblades from this list though.
i know its not a "look" but can we bring up decisive pumpkins sound effects for a moment?
they're already playing in your head arent they
As they say, Simplicity is the "keynote" to all true elegance. It shouldn't be complex to be good. Sometimes you should have less to be more, and to do more. And I totally didn't get these from google.
lol i got a kingdom hearts ad
Ollie Caballero same
Ollie Caballero
i didn't even know kh ads existed.
(not same)
The Keyblade of Heart is designed like that because the metal at the end of it makes the shape of a heart.
Minimalist keyblades are great imo
And when you try to get them to go all out on all of them you get that monstrosity in your number one spot...
8. You can’t
7. Judge keyblades
6. Based on appearance
5. Because
4. Their stats
3. Are all
2. That matters
1. Sweetstack
not a flame or anything but the reason why the Metal Chocobo looks that way is it is a proxy for the Buster Sword, aka a slab of metal with a blade and 2 holes at the bottom
Isn't Follow The Wind supposed to be based on the compass? The blade (Aside from the little ax looking bit ) Looks like the needle of a compass to me so maybe thats what they were going with?
Tim Comstock The "axe bit" was an anchor
Chris Salinas Ahh that makes sense. Thank you.
Well, the Metal Chocobo was designed after the Buster Sword, so it has a reason to be designed the way it is
The keyblade of heart is if my favorite Keyblade but if you don't like it it's okay
i like top 8 better. your keeping it fresh and not conforming to society. keep being a man of men my man
5.) Follow the wind
4.) Way to the dawn
3.) Fenrir
2.) Wishing Star
1.) THAT UMBRELLA FROM 358/2
Hey Cynical, do you have a video of your personal favorite designs to kind of counter your least favorite? If not, I think it would be cool if you made one.
You do realize for wishing star, that those are gears, right? Because Gepetto makes clocks and wooden stuff. You literally get this form him in his workshop. How do you get sunflower from that? I don't know why, but it really bugs me on that particular one.
