Love the amazing rural landscapes/ historical buildings like much of northern england, mostly would have been full of forests pre-industrial times. The Romans had very little influence on this Cumberland county despite what I have read on history records - the French Normans absoloutely had entire reign and dominance and why for it became a dominant Catholic Orthodoxy in 12th century - no one of Roman dececent survived the absoloute bruce force of the Normans - how and why Northern britain managed to thrive as a civilized human populace therafter and French Latin the only language to make the mediveal Chronicles.

I am creating my family tree and my direct ancestors apparently lived in Cockermouth Castle. I am as far back as the early 1400's. "Sir Simon Richard Flegard Fletcher Baronet of Cockermouth" Lived in the castle along with a few more generations.
