The statue of Lord Mayo in the High Street was because he was MP 1857-1868 but assassinated in the Andaman Is. in 1872. Maybe he was much-loved thereabouts...

There is a memorial for him near Curwen castle, his name was Bill Barker

Nothing funny or rude in the name. Cocker is an Anglizised corruption of the original Brythonic name Kukrā, meaning meandering. Brythonic has now evolved into three languages Cumbric, a language that is now lost, Welsh and Cornish.
