- Опубліковано 29 січ 2019
- Jill was the network p[a]ge who was positioned at the desk outside Studio 6A for three months, from May to July 1991. During her tenure there, Dave would call and ask her to invite guests from Live at Five to drop by.
May 2, 1991. With Richard Lewis
May 9, 1991. With Richard Simmons and a call to Sylvester Stallone
June 26, 1991. With Nelson
June 27, 1991. With Howie Mandel
July 12, 1991: Viewer Mail, featuring Anton Fig and Marv Albert; then Sonny Bono. And attention is drawn to a network executive photo as Dave disguises his slow burn over Jay being given the Tonight Show after Johnny retires the following May.
Re-upped due to network block.
As far as TV history is concerned, you're doing a remarkable job. Thank you.
As others have said, thanks very, very much for all your efforts with these Letterman collections. I watched the show for years, so this is gold for me.
Thanks, Kevin.
I don’t recall this Jill person, but OMG ♥️.
Yeah, but look at Faith Hill
I just love the band. Best talk show band ever.
Love all these collections. Thank you for the effort put into these.
Saw this when I was 7.
This reminds me my crush is still as strong today. Don't worry Jill, my arthritis keeps me home 🌻
😅
I remember 12-year-old me having a huge crush on Jill!
Man I forgot about her. Old memories sprouting up
So hot.
19-year-old me as well
You know full well dave hit that! Why do u think he put her on to begin with lol I would've too tho!
@@stevewallis661 She has on an engagement ring.
Man, the 90s sure we're great!
The cut to the framed photo of Warren Littlefield after Dave spills the coffee? Genius.
Good time to get caught up on these classics during the writers strike...Dave is a master entertainer
Jill and Bridget and Meg were so totally awesome. I always looked forward to seeing them!
Dave always finds these really cute girls to call, Jill who works there... and Meg, a stranger who works in a window on the 13th floor across the street.
They become part of his show - normal people... that's why people LOVE Dave.
He would even go randomly door to door, or accost pedestrians on the street.
He could initiate conversations (or attempt to) with anyone at all !!!
My all time fav is when he was at the psychic (~1983?) and slams the window telling some 70/80 yo ladies to “beat it.” Just the camera shot of some old Nyc biddies being befuddled wouldnt be found anywhere else.
Jill is a cutie pie.
Stallone's smarter and more educated than his popular image gives him credit for. He dropped that David O. Selznick reference without missing a beat.
Stallone has been around for close to 50 years, I think people have an idea of how sharp the guy is.
the man is a writer and director. not a lot of stupid people who are accomplished in both of those
Yeah watched his doc on Netflix yesterday. A rennasince man in a way. Even even he wss younger. Well at least when it came to movies and art.
Here's a guy who wrote 44 of the movies he starred in.
Dumb ol' me was watching this, and when Nelson came out I thought "how come there are only two of them? Where's the third one?"
Then I realized I was thinking of Hanson.
Either way, glad to see this post made it back up. Thanks again for your hard work, Don.
That’s hilarious! I was thinking, if one of them left it’d be Half Nelson.

LOL the graphic of Rambo holding the phone.
Thank you Uncle Will and Paul!
Awesome collection of clips you have put together of David Lettermans show.
Oh hey, glad to see this back
"GE Executive Training Program"....I worked for GE and Ryan would be perfect as a site manager. Just be a 27 yr old Nazi who owns 5 pairs of Kaki's, constantly regurgitate the GE culture and you are golden.
Jill is a stunner.
Dave’s crushin on Jill.
Holy moly. Nelson! Peak early-90s getup.
Jill was one fabulous babe - surprised the show didn't do an end card onscreen ala "Wishing you the best Jill - Your Friends @ Late Night" for her final day :(
Here’s a compilation of all the “Good Luck” bumpers - ua-cam.com/video/BfVFGXLHlH0/v-deo.html
Well she's no Meg
Few measure up to sweet Meg. But Jill comes very close.
Dave predicted future talk shows. "We don't need guests, we'll just call them at home."
Sanborn looks like he just woke up
Howie Mandel the dance instructor.😂
Beautiful memories
It's back! Better watch it NOW!
it's kind of weird to think that Dave simply drove himself in to work in 1991. he was on the cover of freaking Time™ magazine just two years earlier. what a world.
How else was going to get there? The bus?
Why is it weird !? In 1991 , Dave was still down-to-earth .
I don't know if he's changed his outlook on the " little guy " since then ;
but you never know . He may have bought into the ruling elite's myopic outlook on life ?
And maybe it was just a story, a made-up anecdote...
Celebs have drivers, usually in black Town Cars or big black SUVs.
This was a standard method of operation in the 1950s-1970s. Jack Benny, Groucho Marx, et al. frequently drove to work. Once a cop stopped Groucho and asked, "How come they don't show any new Laurel and Hardys on TV?"
Stallone was such a sport.
So this bit was developed specifically during Jill's time there? She was cute and her voice sounded a bit husky/sexy over the phone - wonder if Dave noticed and thus a bit was born....? Or maybe there was more...? Also, I was thinking about adorable brown-eyed girls always being my thing, and hoop earrings didn't hurt, and suddenly, several bits in, Paul starts playing Brown-Eyed Girl when Dave starts dialing. Wonder if anyone noticed. Oh and coincidentally Phoebe Cates got a mention.
Great observation about brown-eyed girl. And I was already thinking Jill reminded me of Phoebe Cates and then they mentioned her! And Dave revealed his infatuation. It’s interesting.
Jill ❤️
Stallone: "I've been attacked by clam fever. I hate clams. They're like God's little bed pans."
David: "You know, your mom's been here."
Stallone: "Have you fumigated?"
-- Sylvester Stallone impressed me just now as talented and funny/witty... for the first time in his life. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt now, despite his on screen personas.
Apparently, he might actually be a talented actor - I always assumed that he was simply a stereotype, playing himself.
I admit that I could be wrong.
Jill has just a touch of a New York accent, I can hear it sometimes when she is saying a word while she laughs. Alright, I'm in love....again...
@@Trev0r98 Ok..... well, I don't really know what your comment is supposed to prove, but for your own edification, I'm in love with the 22 year old Jill that I see in this video.
@@Trev0r98 I can assure you, I am fully aware of the space-time continuum, and also am highly adept at spotting videos made in the '90s vs. a video that was made in 2019.
@@danfred7127 lol ... But yeah, she was really cute.

I really like figuring out the significance of what Paul decides to play when the Live at Five guests walk in. Like, when Nelson walked in, he played their song "Love and Affection", when Howie Mandel came in he played "Mandy" by Barry Manilow, so that's supposed to be like "Oh Mandel, you came and you gave without taking..." It's a fun game.
Yes I play this game too. Sonny Bono got his famous song I Got You Babe.
Indeed , it's a fun challenge to figure out which tune Paul has begun to play
when a guest appears or an event occurs and to figure out the significance of Paul's selection .
Paul is a very clever musician .... and you have to be quick to keep up with him .
I would have never figured out that Paul was playing the Nelson twins' hit song
because I don't listen to teeny bopper bubble gum music ; but I would have figured out
why Paul selected " Mandy " as the tune to play for Howie Mandel's entrance .
I seem to recall Paul would always play " Mandy " for every entrance Howie made
onto the Letterman stage . Peace and good health to you ... Miles from Canada .
@@miles6593 When that Nelson song was on MTV in 1990 I was 9 years old and I pretty much watched MTV from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. So music from that time period is well and truly seared into my brain. Peace and good health to you too Miles. Stay safe :)
@@facerip2222 It sounds like " Love and Affection " got a lot of air play on MTV back in 1990 .
Yes , the MTV generation lives on . Peace and good health … Miles .
It would be wonderful if Dave now could talk to Richard Simmons now, on the dock, a little fly fishing. We love you Richard. Do check in when you can.
I remember know one saw him for a while and rumors went around that his maid kidnapped him.haa hope he is okay
Oh boy, wish i could travel back in time for spending one night with Jill and Meg from across the street. 😍
Yes! Both are captivating. I binged the entire 3-part Meg saga. I only wish there was more Jill!
@@AndySalinger33Jill is in her 50s and Meg in her 60s now
I had to remember NBC has rights to the Top Ten. Dave's jokes about his heart were no joke were they.
wow she's pretty

Wow Mantle and Sean Young. Would've like have seen that one.
Oh my, that phone!
These 90's fashions are cracking me up.
Jill Goldstein...yes
Don Giller you should REALLY do a Richard Simmons Collection. do you think that could happen? i'd love it if it did. thank you so much for these great videos.
In time. Can’t say when.
@@dongiller Or... Film by My Dog Bob?
@@m1t2a1 All of the My Dog Bob segments have been compiled into a compilation.
@@dongiller Thanks. I must have scrolled by too fast.
I was more entertained by this call with a natural Sylvester Stallone than in all the portrayals I've seen him do combined. But then I've only seen him in one movie and that was ''Rocky'' with Richard Crenna.
Watch "First Blood", which he also did with Richard Crenna.
@@rickmyrick5470they are cynically referring to First Blood calling it Rocky with Richard Crenna
Hi, Don! I’m trying to track down the “Cicada/Secada” segment. Do you happen to have that by any chance? Thanks!
I have every show. Doesn’t ring a bell, though. Late Night or Late Show?
25:42 Great sports.
Dave laughs it up with funnyman Howie Mandell
RIP Richard Lewis
I was alive in the early 90s , who was nelson 😄
I wonder after all these years if the phone number outside 6A is the same, it’s easy to decode the tones and it is a 664 number that NBC uses.
What became of Jill? Wow Faith Daniels looks good at the end!
Upload Omar Sharif interview PLEASE
0:33 Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer!
is it me or does Sanborn look like Phil Hartman's Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer?
Bwaha!!!
You’ve a keen eye.
Alan Beumann, your ways frighten and confuse me.
I had no idea Pat Metheny played saxophone.
"If you want to move to Kansas, I can get you a job with CBS, that's just how powerful a guy I am." -Not a fan of "fly-over" theory, but THAT is funny as fxck!
An awesome bygone time this was! A completely different universe! How cool is David Sanborn? Mr. Giller do you know how many appearances he had on Late Nite? It seemed like a lot! What ever happened to Jill?
David Sanborn sat in with the band 107 times on Late Night.
Jill asked me for the compilation. I didn’t enquirer what she was up to these days.
@@dongiller Wow how cool she did that. Is that the most for a band guest?
By far.
@VG-iq8xq Jill would be in her 50s by now.

Oh you're from Seattle
32:36 Howie's last handshake?
HAHAHAAA I was thinking the same thing! Well known for being a "germaphobe" now.
For which germs does Howie have a phobia ? The good ones or the bad ones ??
At 47:25 the big sign of relief after she hangs up.
It's " sigh of relief " and what about it ? People sigh all of the time .
Sighing and yawning are healthy things to do .
I know Jill would be in her 50's by now, but based on these clips, she still might be hot.
I was curious myself, I think this might be a fairly recent photo of her. There's definitely a resemblance in any case...

Maybe at 240p
You got the wrong Jill lol
Jill is a hottie!
Never mind Jill - How about Dave’s pencil flick at 43:48 !? 😳
I wonder if Jill even realizes she's on UA-cam 🤔 I also wonder why she left. And was that a wedding band on her finger?
She is. She requested it.
Hey, Howie shook hands.
1:36 I'm traumatised
Wacky Dave wore Adidas wrestling shoes with his suits. Tamed Dave switched to dress shoes. Both Dave's were awesome.
"What? Time to go!" Ha.
Any idea whatever happened to Jill?
I married her in 1998....
Way back when Howie had hair and lots of it. Sonny Bono R.I.P. I forgot how great Faith Hill looked.
I'm pretty he didn't bald even a little bit. He shaves it as part of his germ thing.
Why were 90s girls so hot
Scott Crosby Possible because they ate clean food and didn't spend their days and nights staring into a toxic rectangle.
There's plenty of pretty girls, most are fake, but they are pretty.
Because pantyhose and high heels.
@@LRS905 Ew.. Never got the appeal of that stuff
70s girls were way hotter even , and 60s : holy moly !
Sean Young??
Before Hollywood disowned her.
Did Jill end up catching for the other team? I got curious, and looked on FB for her. The only thing that popped up was of someone, with the same last name, apparently partnered with some woman named Nikki, and working on a show called The Real L Word. Could that be the same Jill? If so...wayyyy too bad.
Not the same person.
I concur with Don . Jill Sloane Goldstein of the " Real L Word " is not the young lady
who worked as a page for NBC in 1991 when she appeared on " Late Night with David Letterman " .
Keep in mind during your on-line search that the name " Jill Goldstein " is a fairly common name
within the Jewish diaspora in the NYC metro area .
@@miles6593 I know Jill. She’s married (to a male husband) with family.
@@dongiller Is that right ? Hopefully , she is enjoying her life with her family .
Incidentally , I have been enjoying the collections you have put together .
I like how Dave and Paul get along well with the people with whom they work
and with all people in general . Peace and good health to you ... Miles from Canada .
Paul Shaffer always comes up with a song for intro music, has the band play “Mandy” for Howie Mandel.
They played ZZ Top's "Pincushion" for ... Bronson Pinchot!
It’s impressive no matter what song Paul comes up with, the band usually could play with him.
Don, this is a random question, but do you have a top ten of your own when it comes to Letterman's shows, either complete episodes or just specific bits?
I realize that it's ridiculous to boil this all down to ten faves, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
I've been asked variations of that, and I just can't make a list like that. Parents Night is up there, though. And the final Late Night and Late Show.
Remember, we're talking about over 6,000 shows. :)
@@dongiller The 360 degree show cracked me up. Just that they would do such a thing was awesome.
That's Howie Mandell ??? lol
Damn Jill was cute
Why was he calling her Debbie at the beginning. Tell me you don't have a collection of Richard Simmons appearances.
I haven’t put one together yet. It’s quite unwieldy. Not a priority.
I noticed that, too. Sort of condescending attempt at humor. Sort of like his running gag to refer to boyfriends of guests randomly as “Kenny.” Notice he began calling her by her real name after the first day. To her credit, she played along without correcting him.
wait, what happened to the original post
Nobody reads my descriptions.
Don Giller Network block?
As it says.
Same phone he'd have used to call Meg on. Sometimes. Ahhh
What the heck is Nelson? A 1991 thing? Vague recollection.
The Nelson Twins were a fairly popular musical act for a short time in the 90s
Their grandparents were Ozzie and Harriet Nelson. Their father was Ricky Nelson. And their sister was Tracy Nelson a semi-popular actress from the 80s. And Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber were their uncle and Aunt. Their whole family was famous. Lol. Even another uncle who I forget the name of right now.
