    Some time in 2010, I followed this video series to learn how to solve my 3x3 cube. 11 years later, I'm playing around with my 7x7 and felt some wild nostalgia revisiting this. Puzzle cubes have brought me many hours of fun, and help me clear my head at the end of the day. Thanks a million, man. This made my last year or two of highschool colorful and nerdy. :)

      Can u help me with this. I can't get past the first left and right algorithms in his part 2 video. His up and up inverted are spun the opposite way of how he does it here in part one. So every time I try it I lose one or two corners from my original green side. Thanks.

      @SawhneyVibes Рік тому

      @@inlovingmemoryofdouglasmul5216 the notation is always as if you're looking at the described face top-down. So, Up is clockwise as if you're looking at the Up face directly, and U' is as if you're looking at the Up face directly and spinning counter-clockwise. As for the algorithm you're confused about, when you're trying to place the side piece next to it's corner, you always move "away" from the corner you're trying to place it in. So if the piece on top wants to go in the slot on the right corner, you're going to move it to the left (clockwise) first to place it like that. U R U' R' U' F' U F. Think of it as moving the side piece out of the way so you can connect it with the corner piece, then inserting the corner piece. Hope this helps!

      @@nebraskaonewheel Gotta make sure that you have all the middle green pieces in the right place. You'll know they're in place when you see them line up with the middle pieces of their corresponding side. It should look like a green cross with the middle pieces of layer one and two of each side like he has it at 4:47 Once you do that you just need to put all the corners in the right places.

    Thank you Dan, it took me a day and a half of going through this over and over. Every time it didn’t work out I found that I had made a mistake or misunderstood an instruction. The good thing is that after 6 “almost” I was truly improving and understanding my mistakes better so that when I did finally complete the cube I had truly learned more than just memorization of the algorithm. Much appreciated Sir!

      Jack Manuel Hot damn. Are you saying you learned how to solve initially from this video? I never really felt the motivation to stray from the method in this video, being content with an average 1 minute solve. It's impressive enough as a party trick.
      You mind sharing your motivations behind trying to be faster, and how you transitioned into a different method of solving the cube?

    • @ruthlessyoungman6562
      @ruthlessyoungman6562 8 років тому +9

      Yup I learned from this video back in 2011. It was the first search result when I typed in "How to solve the Rubik's cube." And regarding improvement, I never really thought about it. When I first solved the cube, my first response was to try and do it again, but faster. Eventually the "beginners method" began to plateau for me, so I looked up tips and tricks on the internet and eventually stumbled across the entire speedcubing community and more advanced methods. After becoming proficient with CFOP (faster method), cubing just became incremental progress and learning new algorithm subsets.
      Major motivation for me now is definitely the competitive aspect. I have yet to win a local tournament, but I've gotten podium quite a few times.

    Damn. I haven’t looked up a Rubik’s cube video in years and then I stumble upon this video that helped me learn how to solve it because I saw Pursuit of Happyness and it was the movie that inspired me to get a Rubik’s Cube haha. 2008 when I was 13 was the first time I saw this video and now rewatching it 16 years later, the nostalgia is hitting me like crazy. Took me about 2 weeks to learn it because of this guy, along with another video around that time. This is an iconic piece of footage.

      Kenny Pagel I know right. I feel nostalgic watching it. Back then, I only had a PS3 and I used that to go on youtube. So I was just replaying his videos over and over again. I still remember the first time I solved the rubik's cube. Good times.

I still have the cube you gave me and my brother, I stop by this video from time to time because its too cool to hold the cube and see it on the screen at the same time. you should visit us again on a saturday, no more cafe but an array of fresh baked goods. Hope your doing well my friend. Farwell.

    Coming back to this video to thank you, about 7 years ago I sat down with my Rubiks brand cube and turned on this video and solved it for the first time. I’m now in first year university, my collection consists of over 30 puzzles including a 15x15 and a Gigaminx among many others and Cubing has become one of my most cherished hobbies. I haven’t consistently practiced speed solving but I now average ~27s on 3x3 with a PB of 20.60s and
    ~7s on 2x2 with a PB of 1.46s
    And I have wowed numerous people over zoom lectures lol
    Thanks!
