British history, especially the Tudor era, is so fascinating. I really feel sad about the fact that King Henry lost interest in Anne Boleyn after the birth of their daughter. The irony of it all is that the daughter turned out to be among the greatest monarchs in British history. Looking forward to many more such videos.
If only Lord Astor had left Hever Castle alone . Didn't he realise what a historically important building it was . Repairs if required, but moving staircases , walls , adding fireplaces and a minstrels gallery. Vandalism.
Well, they can't tear everything out and start over. 500 years ago it had minimal decoration and looked like a barn. Back then people didn't have nice furniture and threw herbs on the floors to soak up household filth and hide smells. It wouldn't be much to look at if it stayed the same. At least now it looks nice. I personally don't like the white lacy ceilings.
I have read just about every book written about the Tudors......all the way back to the times of the York's and Lancasterins. I love all the history! I can always put myself there as I read. This Castle is beautiful!
Thank you so much for this tour, Sarah! After several years of investigating my family tree, I am a direct descendant of Mary Boleyn. So for me, it is like visiting a family home, a piece of family history. It would be so nice to visit Hever though so many changes were made. Thank you again!
Have some beautiful pictures of Hever at Christmas, castle is lit up blue, trees are as well lit and they are taken at night and are just so beautiful!
What an exquisite visit , thank you so much ! i love your choice of music it goes perfectly well with the beautiful atmosphere conveyed by Hever Castle .
Loved this video. I live in Norfolk and love Blickling Hall. Have subscribed to see your other videos too as I love old houses and the history of them. Thanks for showing us.
@@TheTudorTravelGuide thank you so much for this video and telling the truth about what is and is not authentic or accurate . I also enjoyed your interview with Dr. Owen Emmerson on the other video .
Thanks for sharing Sarah.I visited years ago and sure that Anne's bedroom overlooked the courtyard, where she awaited the return of Henry after a hunting trip. Also believe that Richard Burton and Genevieve Bujold filmed 'Anne of a thousand days' at Hever Castle and certain that they dined at the end of filming with the owners of the castle.
I own a delightful 1927 Tudor Revival home. It held a 6 person family..but now provides a lux residence or only me. My elder daughter and her husband want to inherit it. My community is filled with fine old homes...enjoyed by all residents.
My uncle worked at Heaver Castle for thirty years. I was lucky enough to hear lots of stories about the castle. He often worked alone in the castle overnight he was very lucky. He did light heartedly tell me about a few bizarre experiences which I loved hearing about as a kid, and that was 35 years ago he told them to me, now being in my 40s. . I was also lucky enough to be allowed to play in the castle after closing time everynow and again... my sister saw a women on the stairs on one occasion and I recall her being very upset about it. She was younger than I and can't recall it now .. thanks for sharing.
(Wesley Budde) As I lived in Edenbridge, I did visit Hever Castle a few times when it was open to the public on special days or weekends and I worked for a private building firm that did renovations to the Cow Milking Shed on the Hever Estate Farm, so I know it quite well. Thanks
A very nice video....obtained a hard copy of the book "In the Footsteps of Anne Boleyn",,,,,,,thoroughly enjoying in and learning about the home of the Boleyn's.
Thank you, Sarah, for the tour of Hever Castle! I hope to actually stay at the castle as part of a tour in the next year or two. Since I am a bit mobility challenged, I was glad to see what the staircase looked like--as long as it has a railing, I'm good! I have no beef with the updates to the castle, especially if they involve indoor plumbing :) The interior of the castle and the surrounding grounds are beautiful. I also look forward to reading your books!
Very interesting! I like very much the English history, especially the history of the Tudors ;-)) Henry VIII., Catherine of Aragon, Anne and Mary Boleyn, Elizabeth and Mary .... And my absolutely favorite author for this time is PHILIPPA GREGORY.
Hi I’ve just stumbled upon your channel. I grew up in Edenbridge a few miles from Hever. You mentioned Cobham in this video. Cobham built and lived at Starborough castle which is a couple of miles from Edenbridge. Starborough was an important place back in its day, unfortunately it was demolished during the civil war. The moat still survives and a folly was built to the north of where the castle once stood, there is now a Manor House too. Starborough was certainly linked to Hever and Penshurst, it’s mentioned in the book about Edenbridge too. I worked and looked after the castle for a few years and I tried to find out as much as I could about the place. I contacted Hever and Penshurst, unfortunately they never replied. I wonder if you’ve ever stumbled upon information about the place or know if Henry stayed at or visited the castle?
Very interesting! It's interesting to see how the home was laid out, compared to the standard open floor plans we tend to use today. And so much beautiful mill-working!
Greetings! I’m 12 years old, learning about this in my school history class..is it okay to interview or could you answer some questions? I couldn’t find it on google so I needed help but my parents are not familiar with these and so is my friends ( I don’t have much friends ) anyways, here are the questions 1) How is each building connected to the Tudor period? 2) • They do some research and find out the history of the building? Explain 3)the materials that each building may be made from? How were they build? Again, thank you so much for sharing this video! It helped a lot ❤️
I would love to visit and have you all to myself as a tour guide to all things Tudor. Having read hundreds of novels and nonfiction books on the Tudors I was curious as to what your opinion is as to the year of Anne's birth and what data your opinion is based on. I'm just curious that someone so famous would have their birth so inconclusively known. Keep up the great work.
Bardotte There is a difference between fake and renovated during a later period. Whatever’s there is most likely mainly original-just original to a different period of time. It s important, however, to note what is replica and what isn’t
Anne bolyns bedhead looks like cupboard cabinet.....the place is line with a rope....it means no entry.....that is anne bolyns wax figure....now the heaver castle is made to be a museum...but madam....it still haunted isnt it?😐
Well, that’s a version. But I love the real old version and it had high ceilings throughout...it is a minimal version that has things different, but I love the woodwork and fireplaces.Nice tour though, thank you!
..i really enjoy your content, thank you for doing such great work.I just know I've seen you on the history channel...if not ,you should be!I watch Claire often also..inner you two have a great time when you start talking Tudor..lol...thank you very much.
Its a pity Lord Astor did so many alterations that gave scant regard to the original. I won't bother visiting Hever...As Henry VIII once said "How can anyone trust anything in this world when there is nothing real in it!"
Yet another video of Anne Boleyn’s bedroom that doesn’t actually show Anne Boleyn’s bedroom. I’d rather watch a silent video on someone’s smartphone scanning the place without ever seeing their face.
If this is what is takes to keep people visiting and therefore keep the castle in a proper condition, a little artistic embellishment of history is probably ok.

idk about "among the greatest monarchs" - who could be considered to be an equal or greater monarch than Elizabeth 1st?
Thanks for the tour

I am currently reading a book about her. I wasn't sure if Hever castle still existed. It's great to see her family home.
considering the castle was made of bricks and bricks unlike other medieval castles made of stone dont decay easily
A wonderful House great restoration interesting video liked. T'he information about heaver Castle during Anne boleyns time

So is anything at Hever actually original now ? Or is most of what Anne would have known gone? I hope that guide books state what is fake.

shes not sure if it was her bedroom wow
Surprised you didn't mention Anne of Cleves. 🤔
HOW MANY PIECES OF CLOTHING DOES ANNE BOLEYN HAS TO PUT ON WITH THE HELP OF THE SERVANT MAIDS? IS THIS THE 16 TH CENTURY CLOTHINGS FOR LADIES?
Did Henry VIII just carry looks around with him?
I sure am glad to be alive today and not then.
